Friday Favorites
Happy Friday, y'all!
'Thought I'd pop in to say 'hey' and share a few of my favorite things.
Some of y'all may know LuLu James at the Final Chapters?
More than 2 years ago she posted about this, giving it 2 thumbs up. I commented ... made a note to put on my to-do list ... then did nothing.
I'm not particularly vain, but the state of my hands has become criminal. My nails are so thin, they break while doing dishes. Changing the bottom sheet.
Gotta admit, Lulu's right. I've been using this stuff every morning and it's made a huge difference -- even on my ragged cuticles.
❤️
Oh, the weather outside is frightful ... but that doesn't mean I can't surround myself with simple pleasures.
Our (faux) fireplace is on the injured reserve, but I'm loving the aroma of Mrs. Meyer's 'wintery' hand soaps -- Peppermint and Snow Drop.
(The lead glass tree came from a sweet little shop in Sarasota many years ago. It stays on my dresser year-round.)
Not unlike those who covet Spring blooms in the midst of January? Just do it!
❤️
Do you love making chicken salad, but hate the mess?
I laughed out loud at the girl in this video, because I'm the same way about touching meat. ICK!
Some of y'all may already be aware of her 'hack' -- but new to me, I couldn't wait to try it.
As a rule, I'm generally skeptical, but this was crazy easy. I only needed to divide and freeze half.
Do you enjoy chicken salad?
I'm an 'improv' sort, but this morning's batch included
hard-boiled eggs; copious amounts of Duke's mayonnaise, Marie's bleu cheese dressing and purple onion. (OK, I know they're technically called red but come on. Seriously, don't they look purple to you?)
Next time I'm going to use Boursin garlic and herb cheese; perhaps a cup of chopped walnuts.
I forgot to add, I think when I 'did' the bag hack I massaged that chicken a little too hard, too long. There were lots of smaller bones that needed picked out. It was fun, tho!
wow and wow again on the debone. bob is laughing because he saw this and said why, I say, if he thinks its fun he can do it. I make it like mother, the same way I make tater salad, boiled eggs, heavy mayo, chicken and sweet relish. mothers had onions but I don't eat onions, if Bob wants onions he has to cut them and put them in his portion. I don't eat or touch onions. I do sometimes slice the PURPLE onions for him but then I complain for hours over the smell. thanks for the video. I Had a tree like yours, it looked like leaded glass, but must not have been, because this year, the 40 year old tree like yours, the top of it had Disintegrated into a mess.
I happen to love chicken salad! I like to have it on croissants! It's delicious! I have mede it many times but what we have here in the fridge is store bought and it's pretty good too. It has some chopped pecans and cranberries in it! It's healthy and something I can enjoy. I'm going to have to get some of that nail cream. Mine need all the help they can get! I hope you have a Happy Friday too! Love, ma
That's a great hack, Myra, and one I'll have to try. I do love eating chicken salad, but Danny is the one who usually makes it around here. I love it with celery, onion and bell pepper, and enough mayo to hold it all together. You've made me hungry! Blessings!
That is interesting about the nail product. Glad it is working for you. Yes, I love those hand soaps. That video is great. Thanks for sharing. Your dressing sounds great. Yes, they definitely look purple.
I've seen the hack before but am too chicken to try it. *giggle* Now I'll have to give it a whirl. Chicken salads is one of my favs in the tasty foods department. We make ours from the crockpot leftovers of Chicken Carnitas. It is soooo good. Steve's chicken salad goes thusly: Shredded Chicken Carnitas, Hellman's Mayo, Mustard, Finely chopped small Vidalia sweet onion, Sugar-free sweet relish, Garlic powder, and Dill weed. Mix well. Let sit in 'frig until thoroughly chilled. Serve on toasted Sola Bread with Claussen Kosher Pickles. Enjoy! 💙
Gosh, that chicken deboning hack is amazing! Now I want to go buy one and try it! LOL. Chicken salad for me is chicken, mayo, chopped celery, craisins and chopped pecans or walnuts, whichever I have. I don't add onion or peppers or relish or eggs. Not a fan of onion in my chicken salad. Egg would be fine if I had some already cooked. I love it on a croissant, but seldom have them, so just any old bread or bun will do, or just on lettuce. For a really quick chicken salad I use a can of chicken breast. Not my favorite, but it'll do in a pinch. That hoof and nail cream sounds great. My nails are awful too. I must look for that. Thank you. Your little tree is pretty. I buy pretty hand soaps in pretty containers at Marshall's. Lavender is my favorite, but lemon verbena is nice too. Haven't tried the peppermint, etc. I have to be careful about scents. Can't use anything from Bath and Body works. Too strong. Haven't tried Mrs. Meyers. I guess I should now. Take care. Have a lovely weekend.
Craisins? I love hearing everyone's 'secret ingredients'! Because we love hard-boiled eggs, I usually do a half-dozen every couple weeks using the (lazy girl) Egglettes method.
I doesn't bother me to handle meat but I do usually wear latex gloves just to make cleanup easier. I have never made chicken salad because I LOVE the one I buy at Sam's Club, already made. I make tuna salad and egg salad... go figure! I love your little Christmas tree. Beautiful. xo
Handling the meat brought back a memory from quite a few years ago. My younger son's X wife (not at that time) was visiting us and helping me with dinner. I had a rotisserie chicken which I was deboning by hand. She kept groaning and saying ick and eww.. I thought some not so nice things about her at that moment. Now every time I do that my mind goes back to that "person" and I have to say forgive me for the ugly thoughts that invade my mind. Thankfully son has a wife now that is a wonderful woman and very resourceful, kind and all of the good things in God's world. Sue
Yes, I love chicken salad. Lucky for me I have a couple restaurants near me that have really good ones so I seldom make it. Yours sounds amazing, though.
Okay, I gotta try the chicken hack and also the nail stuff. Thanks for the info! Hope you have a great day! Oh and I love your tree!

not done yet. Peppermint is one of two scents that don't send me into allergy attacks. the other is citrus
DeleteTom likes relish in his, too. Like you and onions, if he wants relish he can add his own. (lol)

ReplyDeleteI never thought about cranberries ... that sounds good!
DeleteOkay girl - that is going to be a great hack. I love that chicken and I hate cutting it off and miss a lot. Thanks for sharing that.
ReplyDeletePlease let me know!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie. Years ago, Tom and I actually had an argument about the correct (onion) name. Hate it when he's right, lol.

DeleteThis post has made me hungry. And I like that glass Christmas tree.
ReplyDeleteGod bless, Mevely.
My middle name should be 'hungry'!

ReplyDeleteThose gloves are a great idea!
DeleteThanks for the nail strengthener recommendation. I've been having the same issues as you.
ReplyDeleteWell, I broke 2 last night. It's not as good as a gel manicure, but now retired I can't afford that regularly.
DeleteI have to say, if you are a Duke's gal then you qualify for full admission as a card carrying southerner. Welcome!
