What's a task you do on a regular (or semi-regular) basis that feels like it should be an Olympic event?
How about weeding?
I loathe yard work, but thanks to Pam, I discovered a lightweight 'whacker' whose battery lasts about the same time as my back. Win-win!
Aside: Last week my 'task' was interrupted by two F-35's doing maneuvers over Millbrook. O'my gosh, y'all! I'm not a fan of Top Gun... but the sight (and sound!) of these ... I just stood there covered in goosebumps.
I wasn't the only one. For example --
"They could have given us some warning; I thought I was about to meet Jesus" ....
or my favorite,
"That's the sound of freedom."
What's in the trunk of your car right now?
I've no idea!
It's been sitting at the dealership since July 23, waiting for a diagnosis.
No, I'm not a happy camper -- but they at least gave me a bigger, nicer loaner.
Summer foods v. fall foods ... which do you prefer?
Fall!
Would you rather ...
Watermelon or caramel apple? - Neither
Iced coffee or pumpkin spiced latte? - Iced coffee
Potato salad or sweet potato casserole? - No thank you.
Barbecued ribs or roast turkey? Ribs!
Ice cream sandwich or apple pie? - Nuh-uh
Corn on the cob or candy corn? - Corn on the cob
August 7 is National Lighthouse Day. Have you visited any lighthouses? Do you have a favorite? Is a lighthouse something you seek out if you're visiting an area known for theirs?
I don't recall ever visiting a lighthouse; it's not something on my short list.
I am, however, besotted by this Thomas Kinkade illustration at the top.
Light at the end of the tunnel ... out like a light ... give the green light ... a lightbulb moment ... in a new light ... in the limelight.
Of the 'light' idioms listed, which applies in some way to your life lately? Explain.
Given my fondness for afternoon naps -- particularly after a delicious lunch -- I'm going with 'out like a light.'

ReplyDeleteI love corn on the cob, and used to eat it a lot. I did see two lighthouses, one on Hilton Head Beach, when my kids were 8 and 10, 50 years ago, their dad and boys climbed to the top, I got 5 steps up and turned back. the other was New Smyrner beach and just looked at it. did not try to climb. love the picture at the top and would be happy in that house.
That stone cottage by the sea checks all my heart's boxes!
DeleteOur gas powered weed eater broke and I think we will just pick up some electric lightweight one because there are so many areas that get overgrown.
ReplyDeleteI can no longer handle Tom's gas-powered eater, but this 'toy' (Tom's term) does the job just fine.
DeleteWhat's in the trunk of my car right now? The weeds and grass cuttings I should have sent to the re-cycling centre over a week ago. I forgot all about it. Also, the lawn-mower. I've been searching for it for days.

They are giving you a free rental car all the time your car sits in a shop - lucky.

Being as my car's basically new, we insisted they provide a loaner. Not fun, having a vehicle I can't trust.

DeleteI like the, light at the end of the tunnel, phrase. I've seen that light more than once and it is a welcome sight. I shared pictures of a lighthouse I visited in Ohio today. They are a beautiful sight, but I've never seen one light up the night. I think that would be an even better sight. Lighthouse are a reminder to us all to let our light shine! We went to an air show at a military base when I first moved down here and I was amazed and enthralled. Those planes and pilots do make you proud to be an American. ! Hope you get that car back soon, but glad you have a loaner to use! Love, ma

DeleteI'm so thankful that our yard work consists of blowing leaves off the driveway and our moss. Danny does the week whacking when it's needed. I've been to the lighthouse on St. Simon's and it is pretty incredible, but I don't crave visiting them in general.

I used to live close to a lighthouse. But was never able to go into it. Sometime I will post some photos from my archives of it.
Watermelon, Chai latte hot, corn on the cob, potato salad, ribs, and anything with ice cream...

For me, it's "light at the end of the tunnel" because this Age of Grace is escalating. We must be really, really close to rejoicing at the feet of Jesus. I can feel it. "Oh, glorious day!" 💙

Deletethecontemplativecat here. what a great idea. There is Point Loma Lighthouse near San Diego. It was replaced by another down in easier access. I I have taken students on field trips there. we are glued to Olympics, field events now. Sweet kids and their proud parents! So wonderful.
