Checking in!

Hello again!  How the heck are y'all?

Before I forget .. I got such a kick out of your favorite "S" responses!  It's always fun getting to know one another a little better.

My week?  I'm such an agenda-driven person, it felt strange having two weekdays with no appointments or obligations.  Time to un-clench my jaw!

Tom's doing wonderfully.  His pain levels were concerning at first, but not so much anymore.  I suspect the young therapists are surprised how an 83 (almost 84!) year old man performs his exercises with barely a grimace.  The surgical dressing came off Thursday ... crazy, how someone can make a 4-5" incision and install a new hip.  I guess that's why they make the big bucks.

I love this image. The Great Physician's right there alongside.

In other news.  Mother Nature clearly can't pick a season and stick with it.  I adore my hoodies, but come mid-morning have to change into a cotton blouse.  Only to settle in my recliner come nightfall with a 14# weighted blanket.
And still, the grass continues to grow.  Grrrr.

Speaking of seasons.  Now's the time I should be replacing my 'earthy' surroundings with lighter tones.  Fragrances.  Nevertheless.  This morning I chose a new Mrs. Meyers hand soap named, "Gingerbread."  Because I can.  (And that makes me happy!)

Do you ever smell a certain scent, they suddenly remember a small part of your childhood?

I can still smell the coffee beans as my mother ground them into a little paper bag there at Safeway.  I love the smell of fresh-ground coffee beans to this day.

Or these?

Totally illogical, but this temps me to press the "Buy" button.
..... probably for the same reason I've been craving pumpkin pie.
Until I went to set it in my buggy and saw, "Bake"
Um, that would be a hard no.

Okay.  This post is going nowhere.  I'm successfully procrastinating getting the weed eater out so little Grace isn't chest-high in the tall stuff.

First?
Not naming names, but this makes me smile and nod.

Thank you!

Short Stuff

S is for ....

I thought it might be fun to participate with the folks at Sunday Stealing.  Lighten up!
At something called The Zeus Excuse, participating bloggers were assigned a letter and asked to list (5) things they love beginning with that letter:  "S"

What a great opportunity to look "On the Bright Side."  (Thank you 'Ma' for the inspiration!)

In no particular order ....

Currently ... from Coosada

From the front of my refrigerator:

Hey, there.  Did you think I'd forgotten y'all?"
Your well wishes and encouraging words on my last post meant so much!  Thank you!

Like the weather, Life's been a roller-coaster  ... but all 4 of us came out the other side of the mountain.*  Not necessarily smiling, but grateful.   Maybe I'd better start at the beginning.

Shortly after Bible study Monday morning, Macie had a setback.  With tears in our eyes, I made the call to our vet and we drove right over.  Amazing.  Doc said, "I don't think it's her time."  After a strong shot of lasex he was able to "bring her back" and has tweaked her meds.   Before leaving, he assured me the girls would be put in the 'hospital' section together when we went to Columbus for Tom's surgery.  Honestly y'all, I was a wreck.

Anyway.  Tom's surgery was a success.   Instead of the traditional approach, this (young!) surgeon does an anterior approach that doesn't involve cutting the muscles.   Everyone there was wonderful ... almost like they'd stepped out of an episode of Stepford Wives.  Only with more sincerity.

We got home late yesterday.  I'd great intentions to visit blogs, but I was totally spent.  While Tom's in significant pain, I understand that's normal.  Meanwhile, there's good drugs (*grin*).

Is anyone (still) watching the Olympics?   I've only a meh-meh interest; but hearing about Lindsey Vonn's latest accident has saddened me.  Her father says, (it's a) "career-ending injury" ... which reminds me of a favorite old movie.   Has anyone seen *The Other Side of the Mountain?  True story.  Even tho' I've probably seen it a dozen times (no lie!), I paid the $3.99 rental and -- poised with a new box of Kleenex and glass of Cabernet -- sobbed my eyes out.   What makes it so special?   'Not sure I've ever seen a movie where the story line totally followed what happened in Real Life.

Besides, somedays a Good Cry can be enormously therapeutic.  In the event you're curious, here's a trailer.

(Not as schmaltzy as the one I first posted)

Okay then!
There's lots to talk about, but I need to do laundry and inventory the refrigerator and decide what's still edible while Tom's still immobile.

True dat!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Monday matters* (on a Tuesday afternoon)

* Matter(s) -noun:  Affairs or situations under consideration, topics.

Yay, us!

As seen at a recent estate sale, these might well depict Tom's expression when on Saturday morning he heard me gleefully exclaim:  "It's snowing!"

Seeing some of these objects d'art,
it's a foregone conclusion (that) I don't have the taste to be wealthy.

By Monday night, however, I was pretty well over hearing the HVAC cycling and faucets drip 24/7.

In other news!

Provided he doesn't change his mind,
Tom's finally scheduled for his hip replacement surgery next week in Georgia.

Gracious, y'all.  We came back from yesterday's pre-op meeting with a to-do list that, frankly, gives me a sick headache.
I don't remember college orientation being this cumbersome.

Thankfully, I've spoken to the vet and they're boarding Macie Ann in the 'hospital' section where the techs will make sure she's given her heart meds and monitored.
Honestly?  I'm more scared terrified that she could pass while we're away.

Makes me smile

The girls freaked out when the Amazon man delivered this trolly, but calmed right down after a few laps around the house.

Dogs' entertainment notwithstanding, my back's more than a little delighted, not to have to muscle in cases of bottled water each week.

From the test kitchen

Do you ever get fixated on a certain food?

While Tom likes variety in his meals, I've been enjoying various ways to consume spinach.

I made another quiche -- then because the baby spinach was on sale, grabbed a second bag and examined what leftovers were lurking in the refrigerator.

Rotisserie chicken, Conecuh sausage, spinach, summer squash, yellow onion and dry roasted peanuts splashed with low-sodium chicken broth.

Well, I guess that's all I've got.  Thank you for humoring my 'nothing' post ... and maybe, if you will, say a prayer for my peace of mind in the coming days!
Hugs, Myra
