Watercooler Wednesday

Good morning!

Y'all.  My heart thanks each of you for your tips and terms of encouragement yesterday.   I wasn't trolling for compliments; just feeling a little insecure, I guess.  Anyway!

On to the cooler!

Most likely, I'm in the minority -- but must admit to breathing a big sigh of relief when the Paris Olympics finally came to a close.  That used to be 'appointment television.'

Tom claims it stems from my never having played on a sports team, but no.  I think it's a reflection of this season in my life.

This question gave me something to ponder.   I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts!

Age is a many-splendored thing!
(tee-hee)

Hugs, Myra

  1. the only thing that comes to mind, is for 8 years I visited the nursing home where Rich lived at least 3 times a week and some weeks 5 times. I now have no desire to ever go again and have not since Rich died. I ponder why but find no reason and just have lost the desire. I also volunteered with homeless ministries and now do not. I think it is cause d by my age and the way I feel. I do miss walking in the reserves and parks, and might do it sometime if I had someone to walk with. it has been more than a minute since I last visited one of our nature parks or one of our museums...
I do not like watching sports of any kinds, but bob loves all sports and since he is unable to walk or do things, I was glad to have them as a baby sitter. ha ha... the only sport I like to watch is couples ice skating. and that for only short periods.

  2. Oh dear me ... what a question ... well, I get these headaches you see ...

I did visit the doctor ... he asked me about my libido. I told him I changed that Italian car to a Toyota. He then asked me what are the symptoms. I told him they are yellow cartoon characters named Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and ...

He advised me to be spontaneous. We've been banned from that supermarket.

I then changed our bed for a trampoline. My wife hit the roof.

(I hope she does not read this. Please do not share it with anyone else).

    God bless, Mevely.

  3. Myra, your blog is awesome just the way it is. Always something different.
I agree with you about the Olympics, but for a little different reason.
This is going to sound odd - but I used to run around saying yes to everyone and everybody. I ran myself ragged. I think I have learned to say no more and a little more yes to myself. Sandie

    1. That's wonderful, Sandie. I need to learn to do that without feeling guilty.

  4. I used to do scrapbooking and making cards, but I've definitely lost interest in that and even just recently gave away a lot of the tools and stamps that I still had.

    1. I remember those days -- and even took a night class. Unfortunately, I wasn't any good and gave up.

  5. Hmmm. Yes Age is a many "splendored" thing. It sure is a Thing!!!
I enjoyed the Olympics but am glad its over. Now on to Daily Drama...
I do like Chatty Crone's answer about learning to say No. That's hard for me but I think Dave and I have turned a new chapter in our lives and not volunteering for things has become a tad easier.
Do you ever feel like just running away? Sometimes I do. I just want to not have any responsibilities or schedules . I know I would be bored out of my gourd and I really like to be around my family and people in general...BUT..Sometimes...

    1. Running away?! Yes! Provided I could take my emotional support furbabies.

  6. I did not watch the Olympics this time around, Myra, but I think you know why. I still love books and reading, but have not been as wrapped up in as in previous years. Maybe, I spend more time reading blogs? LOL! That's something I enjoy.
    Blessings!

    1. For sure; I'm right there with you on the 'why.' Unfortunately, Tom was glued to it all and I was too lazy to go in the other room.

  7. As you know we are track & field people so we watched because we watched those athletes work so hard to get there. But we never watch the opening or closing ceremonies of which this year I am especially grateful. When China hosted I was tired of the marching those poor people did all through the ceremonies. I think like most everything today, the Olympics have fallen prey to Satan and his master of disguises. Its been a hot summer so not much reading except my bible.

    1. Yep. Like my friend says, "Satan's walking freely and no-one is paying attention."

  8. I used to read books a lot more than I do now. Although I'm trying to get back to the habit, reading blogs and other websites has kind of taken over.

  9. Wow, that has made me stop and think. Right now I am in a non-reading books mode. I go through phases where I can't get enough books to read, and then I guess I burn out and have to take a break. Ever since we had covid last month I have not been able to pick up a book and read. I do enjoy our blogs and look forward to seeing what others are writing...you are one of my top favorites, so please don't give up!! I don't seem to enjoy decorating as much as I used to for the seasons...I just go with the basics. I've lost my love for entertaining as I don't have the energy to clean and cook and clean up again. My body is not as cooperative as it used to be with so many things, and that has really slowed me down to just keeping up with the basics. I had hoped I would wait until I was at least in my 80's before this happened!!! LOL.

    1. I've been struggling to identify my lack of focus (reading), too. Perhaps, yes. Social media and blogging occupy so much of my 'mind matter.' I don't really want to give any of it up.

  10. To your last question... I have always loved reading but have gotten so far away from reading these past years I'm not sure I'll find my way back. Perhaps when I have more time on my hands over the next months, that love will be reborn. I enjoyed your answers, Myra. Happy Hump Day. xo

    1. Isn't it curious how several of us identified our (lost?) love of reading? I'm going to try something Jenna (Hoda & Jenna) said and make myself READ 10 minutes every day. Cross fingers!

  11. I used to love sewing, but now, not so much. I think maybe it's just burn out more than outgrown. I'm glad the Olympics are over too, I've never been a big fan. I respect all the hard work the athletes put into it, good for them.

  12. We watched some of the Olympics. I mainly like watching the gymnastics. I've lost interest in shopping. It started with the pandemic. Now I don't even care to go grocery shopping. Definitely tee-hee on aging.
