Sunday Recap

Y'all doing good?
Me?  Lemme tell you ...

Outside my window...
It feels like a sauna!
But blissfully calm after yesterday evening's storms.  Borrowing from Jon in the Tennessee wilderness, "It was darker than midnight's shadow. Violent claps of thunder shook the house with Herculean force and the rain descended like a Biblical torrent."

I hated to upset Pastor Janet and Andy's morning, but wanted to alert them of another (unwelcomed) project.
I'm 5'7", and the top of this was nearly as high as my head!

Grateful ...
That the window treatment shop never returned my calls!
We've 10 large windows in the sun room -- and almost all the blinds were cracking and crumbling.

At first I was really annoyed. Then, when I floated the idea of putting up black-out drapes, Tom loved the idea.  Our Lowe's only had 4, but she checked and found out the Wetumpka store had 7 remaining panels.

Aside:  It's still "Mum's the word" on when/where HGTV will begin filming -- something about confidentiality agreements.
I do love that little town!

So Tom put up the hardware and hung the drapes yesterday.  'Still have to give the 'no iron' panels time to relax those creases, but I think it's made a big difference!
No telling how much $ we saved not hiring a professional!

In the kitchen ...
I forgot to mention!  After not 24, but 48 hours in a slow cooker bath, the ruined roast came out tender and flavorful.  (Whew! I wouldn't have bet money on that!)

THIS is what happened a few hours ago when a certain 'meat-arian' discovered all the meat in the house was still frozen -- and she had no recourse but to saute' some peppers, scramble a few eggs and open a can of collard greens.  If my vegetarian friends could see me now. LOL!

Enjoying ...
Kelly Minter's Bible study, "All Things New."  Not only does she look just like Sally Field's 'Gidget', Kelly has the cutest personality.
Anyway. Last week we were talking about making comparisons and selling ourselves short.  I thought hers was a powerful quote:
"The world's measuring stick is not only faulty -- but it fluctuates. So let's not even go there!"

If you'd like, check out her song, "You Lifted Me."

Nervous ...
I'll admit it ... about tomorrow morning's nuclear stress test.
And you know the worst part? "No caffeine" 24 hours prior to the test.  Oh, won't I be Little Miss Congeniality? (*smile*)
Your prayers are felt!

Have a good evening, friends -- stay safe!  And I look forward to 'seeing' you for Wednesday's Hodgepodge!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Rest assured my friend that I am praying for you and for your good health, and medical test tomorrow.

I shall not comment on anything else; because this is the most important. Trust in God.

    God bless.

  2. Keeping you in prayer, Myra. Yes, indeed, trust in God.

Oh, lets see, we use blackout drapes too, since there is no such thing as central ac here.

Eggs and such sound really good. smiles

  3. We had a storm like that a few days ago too, it shook the house so hard that a piece of art fell off the wall - luckily it was canvas not glass framed! Glad your curtains worked out, I'm sure that saved you a ton! Will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending lots of prayers! {Big hugs}

  4. Prayers being lifted as I type this and will continue, dear friend! I enjoyed your post and especially this part of that quote: "It was darker than midnight's shadow." Nice! The drapes look great - good choice!! I'm glad that limb didn't fall on your house! Sending a hug!!

  5. Prayers here my friend.
And k ado's to you both on the curtains, so there is something good in Lowes beside smelling the lumber! LOL.
The eggs and STUFF looked good. It is hard to beat eggs.
    Love and prayers,

  6. I am praying that your test goes well. You endured quite a violent storm that crashed the tree down. Your new curtains look pretty; we have some similar style curtains.

  7. Good luck and prayers on your nuclear stress test. You can do it!

  9. I should have merely said that the storm scared the jeeters out of me - but figured I'd attempt to be poetic. Thanks for using my quote...
(at least we didn't have any toppled trees this time).

Those black-out drapes look great. It doesn't pay to hire a professional if you can do it yourself.
I'm glad the wayward roast finally turned out tender.

Positive thoughts and prayers. Take care!

  10. Praying for you, Myra! No caffeine is definitely a bummer, but I know you'll make it through the test with flying colors. Love your black-out drapes, too. Should keep you all a lot cooler in these hot months.
    Blessings, my friend!

  11. I could eat and had eaten what you're eating there and we love those canned collards. I sometimes put the eggs the peppers some garlic and once in a while broken up bacon and the pan with a little olive oil. After it cooks for just a minute I put in a cup of cold brown rice that has a little bit of soy on it and throw in wilted lettuce. It's delicious even if you just put a half a cup of rice. Another thing I eat that I think you might like is you can either bake it in the oven or just put it in a pan on the stove poor and a little bit of pizza sauce in or your favorite sauce whatever kind of sauce you like and then drain a can of dark kidney beans and put them on top of the sauce like you were making a pizza and then take your favorite shredded cheese and sprinkle that on top and let it simmer just a minute till the cheese melt and eat with a spoon. I love it. Prayers for you to have a calm Spirit tomorrow during that test and that you will feel zero stress! The no caffeine is the worst part. I can tell you something that's even worse than that though that's getting up this morning at 3:30 in the morning with a cranky husband who can't have caffeine because he has a 6:30 appointment for blood labs. OMG the world was coming to an end

  12. So glad you made it through the storms safely. I love your new window treatments. They do make a difference. I put up drapes here as well. Couldn't stand the window shades. They do make a room look homier. I've done of Kelly Minters Bible studies and yes, she is good. Usually I do a summer Bible study but didn't get into one this year. Instead I'm trying to finish up last years. Hope you have a great new week ahead.

  13. I hope you test was all good. You probably need extra rest after that stress test but otherwise my hubby was fine. Glad you made it out of the storm a-ok! I love the black out curtains. We have them in all the bedrooms. Yours look really great! The window cover co. lost out. Tough luck for them. You and Tom did great! THey look so nice and crisp. I bought a portable steamer but did I use it on my black out curtains? Of course not! HaHa but they do fall after a bit. I have done lots of bible studies but not Kelly Minters. Hoping you are resting after your test and enjoying a quiet evening. HUGS across the miles
