... just popping in with a glimpse of our days.
Friday morning found us back at Montgomery's VA. I'm so thankful (that) everyone from the receptionist 'on up' is so cordial. We hardly had time to sit down when they called Tom's name!
Not 15 minutes later I was speeding up I65 to get to our favorite deli in time to order breakfast.
A favorite of seniors, I enjoyed eavesdropping on the occupants of the booth behind us, discussing the previous night's severe weather: "I slept through the first wave, but the next one at 3 brought me to my feet." As a youngster I used to eye-roll old people who talked about the weather ... and now I am one.
Not sure if it was lack of sleep or relief for a good doctor visit, but my appetite was a 12 on a 1-to-10 scale. I enjoyed a 3-egg omelet filled with Conecuh sausage, shredded cheese and nearly burnt (my request) hash browns. Then because no-one was looking, I blanketed it all with buttery grits. Oh my!
Does anyone else struggle to open those itty-bitty butter (or jelly) containers? I couldn't resist trying a hack I saw on television last week: "Forget trying to peel that film off the top and instead, stab it with your knife. Squeeze and enjoy." (It works! ...and I didn't spray anyone in the process.)

So, I'm not going to get rich answering questions but I'm up $4.50 in PayPal ..... with $25+ promised by June 11 from the good folks at eSearch.com. The 'reward' for 10-15 minutes of my time is usually $1.50 ... and the surveys are a bit of a yawn. Then again, so is my life. Ha.
Imagine my surprise when I saw a honest-to-goodness One Dollar bill in last week's mail from Nielsen, inviting me to complete their on-line survey for a promised $5 more.
It's been 30 years or more, but I remember when my mother was approached. This before the internet, I think they placed a device on her television that monitored when and what she was watching. Yes, I was envious -- but because I worked for a network television station, I was ineligible.
Not realizing how detailed their little survey was, I sat down at the computer yesterday morning -- and was nearly late for church. After the first 45 minutes, I thought about bailing, but no way was I going to forfeit that $5.

Does anyone remember their high-school yearbooks featuring, "Most Popular", "Most Attractive", "Most Talented" and the ever-coveted "Mr. and Miss LAHS"?
Looking for something/someone in my old yearbook recently, I came across those full-page honors. And not for the first time in yesterday's service, my mind got to wandering.
Looking around at familiar congregants -- many who've become dear friends -- I mentally began my own list of nominees. "Most talented"? A given! .....
"Most Attractive"? That bears little-to-no resemblance to someone's physical attributes.....
A struggle to identify just one "Miss Congeniality."

ReplyDeleteWe too are proud of the Va they have been so very good to me and yes congenial.
Sherry knows all the superlatives in her group, WE laugh when thinking of our local Billy. His beard could be tucked in his pants, he had one tooth. He did have a great personality, but what Sherry, at times he wore a tennis shoe and a cowboy boot, etc. He won best dressed in his class at graduation. LOL Love old Billy, so sad now he is in an assisted living in the Alshiemers ward.
But he had lived a successful life and headed his company in machists. One of the best.

DeleteI am glad your VA is so efficient! The one my Mister goes to is so unorganized! Nobody seems to know what their job is and if they do know what it is, they can't seem to do it. There is one person in reception that I go to if he has any problems! She always says, "You tell them that Ms. Joy said they better get it done now!". That always seems to help but it is anyways chaotic no matter who says what! I think I've even stomped my foot a time or two! LoL

Not sure my cholesterol levels would appreciate it, but heck, that's why I take that awful statin drug so I cat eat what I want, right??? Well...maybe not. I am having to watch my diet for other reasons nowadays...just trying to be a "regular" kind of gal! LOL. Glad no bad storms got to you. We are supposed to be getting some decent rain the next couple of days. I hope they are right! We sure need it. Blessings to you my friend. Always a pleasure to see you here.

DeleteIt is so annoying when you cannot open those small containers with jam, butter or milk in restaurants. Also, often buying items from the supermarket I find they are sealed with glue that does not open the item at all. Like you, I use a knife to open them.
ReplyDeleteGood news that all went well at the medical check-up. You deserved a well earned breakfast. It's a while since we had hash browns - I put them on our shopping list. I like them with black pudding, bacon and beans.

People are definitely more cordial here in the places where we live (AL&TN). A few weeks ago, when I was at the Cancer Center waiting for my ride home, the receptionist brought me sandwiches, potato chips, and Coke.
ReplyDeleteI always have trouble opening those.little packets with jelly in them. But those little cartons of milk are impossible to open! They served them with every meal when I was in the hospital and rehab.
What a sweet gesture! It sounds like you're surrounded by Good People and I couldn't be happier for you.

Deleteyou brought back memories of sitting in a one horse town on the back road to Savannah, Hawthorne FL, breakfast was so fun we stayed a half hour after were done, listening the the seniors.

todays post has me laughing and thinking of stories similar and most of your stories make me giggle and remember things. I am now up 8 lbs not from a monster breakfast, but from grazing all day, tib bit here and there. yesterday I started writing my food down, mindful eating. been fighting these 8 pounds for 6 months.

Mindful eating, yep. I have an Excel spreadsheet that keeps track of my eating habits ... and occasionally shames me (deservedly).
DeleteSurveys: I got to participate in one that paid me $100. Some kind of aging survey. The gal conducting the survey was surprised at how healthy I was. She is younger than me but because she eats processed foods and carbs looked older, was fat and perpetually tired. I told her how we are eating but I immediately got the, "My doctor won't let me do that .." I advised her to get another Doctor 'cause he's killing her. But most won't listen to the truth, I've noticed.

Your good report for your Hubby and that fabulous breakfast sounds so good. I love breakfast anytime. What a hoot on opening the jelly pkg. I was ready to do that on Sunday after church at our local diner.
Ah friends from long ago..wondering if some of them have lived up to their attributes...Actually I wonder if some of them are even still alive. We are all 80 or 81..yikes that sure is OLD. How can I be that age????
