G'morning! I've a few minutes before Bible study, but wanted to pop in my favorite 'neighborhood.' How the heck are y'all?
I'm afraid it's going to be another hot one; we're supposed to set a new record day after tomorrow -- 92*. Makes one wonder just how much of Arizona I brought with me ....
Speaking of which!
Has anyone else seen that piece where a British Twitter user decided to describe every U.S. state without consulting Google. For instance?
"To the best of my knowledge, Arizona is famous for being where Satan vacations to get some heat."
and --
"To the best of my knowledge, Alabama is famous for crossing their fingers when they surrendered."

I've been biding time in the closet ... resurrecting 'stuff.' Trying to decide what's worth saving ("will they really want any of this?") or selling. A while back I put my father's collection of cigar boxes out on eBay.
Unfortunately, there wasn't a nibble.
While I'd no idea what I was going to do with them, I saved several -- believing the answer would come in due time.

At last week's study, Jennifer Rothschild was sharing a personal testimony. When she got to the part about free-floating anxiety, well I sat up a little straighter. (You mean, I'm not the only one?)
What looked like an old recipe box became her "Trust Box" -- born out of anxiety. She spoke about waking up with an unexplained, overwhelming sense of dread. Her heart races. Is it Fear of the future? Fear she's losing her memory?
We watched as she demonstrated writing a word or two on a white card which she then deposited in the "Trust Box." Once and for all. She doesn't need to re-read or amend anything ... because, of course, she can't see them. The act of letting go is so freeing; her way of praying instead of worrying.

After all, he was the one who first told me about the mustard seed.
(Just so happens I've a seed in a tiny vial sitting here on my desk!)

DeleteI really miss going to bible study with the ladies. Its just not working out that way for me now. The Trust box sounds like a terrific idea..time to ponder.
ReplyDeleteTry the cigar boxes again on eBay, especially if they are wooden or really old. We have sold a few. Sometimes you just have to "let them ride" for a while.
We have so much to get rid of that it makes me anxious too. Got to sell it asap...Too hot for me where you are but I'm glad our temps are going back into the 70's today.

In addition to prayer requests, I'm also going to use it to capture favorite quotes and/or phrases that resonate.
DeleteWorries and negative thoughts are natural and they happen when we least expect them. The devil knows when we are tired, weak, ill or in some way vulnerable; so he places these thoughts in our mind to torment us and lead us astray.
ReplyDeleteOften, the best remedy is to stop and pray, and hand over the worrying thought to God. Write it down to specify EXACTLY what you are worrying about. If you can do something about the worry, then do do; or share it with someone you trust. But always share it with God first.

I think I'm having some of that anxiety. We just filled up the truck then popped by the grocery store. Only bought a few items and the grand total for both was OVER $120. Oi. Anyone that votes for a UniParty member now outta be run outta town on a rail. Just sayin'. This rampant inflation is causing me major anxiety. Please, God, save us, from our own stupidity is my daily prayer.

Sorry about the heat that is coming. No I've never seen those. That trust box is a great idea. By the way, Mark has a collection of cigar boxes but has gotten rid of some over the years. Have a great week.

You already know I have enough anxiety to feed Europe on. I don't know if it is free floating, I just know I have anxiety attacks, and at night sometimes feel like I can't breathe thinking of all the things I am anxious about and last but not least, I am now ROTFLMA and please let me know if writing something down and putting it in a box helps and I will try to get up off the floor and try it.. I also googled cigar boxes for sale and it says they are only worth small amounts and to sell on ebay or start your own business with a web site.
Maybe you could sell them as trust boxes? I trust not. he he he

DeleteIt is so difficult to purge our closets and drawers when we come across items that belonged to our parents and bring back powerful emotions and memories. I love that your dad's cigar box could be repurposed for a recipe haven for good mental and spiritual health.

DeleteMyra - it looks like anxiety is common - I have it as well too. Some days worse than others.
ReplyDeleteI know God is there - but some days I just let my mind go wild. I think that box is a good idea.
I have purged big time twice and need to yet again - it is amazing how things accumulate.
Enjoy Bible Study - ours is kind of breaking up with the problems with the Methodist Church. It is hard to find another one.
