Happy Hodgepodge Day ... what's up?
Joyce tells us, April 26 is National Audubon Day, honoring John James Audubon, the French-American ornithologist, naturalist and painter known for his detailed study and illustration of birds in their natural habitats.
Do you have a bird feeder?
Tom has several out back -- gifted by family and friends.
Any birds in your home's decor?
I've only these -- crafted by the NM Pueblo potters for my mother in the mid-50's.
Have you ever owned a pet bird?
Growing up, we always had a canary. I wasn't particularly enamored -- especially having to clean the cage, but my mother sure loved to hear 'Bobby' sing.
What's your favorite bird?
So many varieties of wild birds here in Alabama, but my favorite is the cardinal. (Yes, I believe the old sayings and make a point of saying, "Good morning; it's wonderful to see you again.")
What's something you took to 'like a duck to water'?
Learning to ride. I was always 'horse crazy', but never received formal training until my parents sent me to horse camp in Colorado.
Empty nest, nest egg, proud as a peacock, free as a bird, birds of a father flock together, or the early bird catches the worm. Choose one and tell us how it currently applies to your life.
The early bird catches the worm.
It's my favorite time of day -- plus I'm the most inclined to actually get stuff accomplished. If I put things off until after lunch they may get done -- but done reluctantly.
Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds, poppy seeds -- your favorite seed and a favorite food or dish made with that seed or topped with that seed? Have you tried all the seeds on the list? Any you don't care for?
I used to be addicted to sunflower seeds!
I'm only familiar with sesame seeds and poppy seeds; my DIL makes a poppyseed chicken casserole to die for!
I've no idea what the others (seeds) taste like, and little inclination to try. Change my mind?
Something in the past week that made you 'happy as a lark'?
Well, this week has been a somber on several levels.
I'm going with our new Bible-study: 'He Chose the Nails.' I love the way in which Max Lucado imparts his message in Real-Life-Right-Now speak.

Myra, it is so nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was so happy thanks to God and my Savior Jesus Christ that I just wanted to jump up with joy! And I'm still so happy!
My wife has two parakeets in our home, plus we have a dog and cat.
I'm not sure why, but I really like pigeons.
I recall eating chia seeds when I was younger, which I believe helped my energy level.
God Bless you!
PS I enjoyed my visit!
Thanks, Lon! I hope you'll visit again!
DeleteI have been relying on said cozy little moments a lot lately! I still feel like my head is about to burst.
ReplyDeleteYep, some days are like that.
DeleteI love poppy seeds...and all of the above really! lolol
ReplyDeletehugs

DeleteI've had 2 birds in my life. As a child we had a parakeet. And he would talk to us. As an adult I got a real parrot. She wouldn't talk much and was mean. She bit my finger more than once. I called her the dirty bird. But she lived over 30 years. I remember as she was the same age as my youngest son. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Love, ma
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and his ex used to have some kind of large bird. He still enjoys them; me not so much.
DeleteSeeds ... if at first you don't succeed suck something else instead.
ReplyDeleteTry pumpkin seeds ... they are good for something or other. Why do people say some foods are good for this and that? It's always foods that taste like !!!! Why does no one say pizza is good for you? Or KFC; now there's a bird I would love as a pet.
I was in the garden the other day and an owl dropped his load on me. He had irritable owl syndrome.
God bless, Mevely.
Yes! We enjoyed Popeye's Fried Chicken just yesterday. The owls' expressions do seem rather irritable, don't they?
DeleteI am an earlier riser. I loved the quite mornings to myself, but for the past couple of weeks I have been having difficulty waking up..I am blaming it on the time change!
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense!
Deleteyou already know i am the early bird also.. favorite time of the day. My favorite bird until now has been the pelican. I just love them. Hooty the owl has today taken first place above pelican. He came 11 day ago and is now sitting in our palm tree and has been there for 3 hours. yes i got photos. other than hooty and the ducks in the pool, no birds in the house. are ducks birds? just check GG and she says yes they are birds.
ReplyDeletewoo hoo. we have ONE owl, 6 ducks.
I love sunflower seeds and sesame, but can't eat them because of IBS.. reading blogs like yours and you reading mine and emails keep my head from exploding... hugs
Yes, blogging is super therapy! Tell that owl to be leaving those ducklings alone!
DeletePoppyseed chicken? Sounds, awesome!!! smiles
ReplyDeleteYes, it is!
DeleteI love cardinals!!
ReplyDelete😉🐦
DeleteI tend to like all birds - it's difficult to choose favorites, but I especially like the mourning doves.
ReplyDeleteI had a Senegal parrot for twenty years. Unfortunately he had a tragic demise, which I'd rather not mention (no, my cats didn't eat him...).
Long, long ago I heard (can't remember where) that whenever you see a Cardinal it means someone deceased is thinking about you. I think that's a lovely sentiment.
I heard that, too ... even that it's the reincarnated spirit of a loved one.
DeleteI do love watching our many birds at our feeders, Myra. One of my favorites is the little nuthatch. I find them to be such comical little fellows! Seeds? I do love sunflower seeds and pumpking seeds - tasty!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Indeed, the birds' antics are wonderfully entertaining. Much more so than what's on television.
DeleteCardinals are special. How nice that you could go to that riding camp. Happy rest of the week to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ellen ... you, too!
DeleteI enjoyed your answers - pumpkin seeds are quite delicious. That poppyseed chicken sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to try them!
DeleteI'm not into seeds so much. Horse camp sounds amazing and I am jealous!! Your Bible study sounds interesting. I've had poppy seed chicken before and have a recipe around here somewhere. I need to look for it and think about using it next time I host my small group from church. Love & hugs, Myra!!
ReplyDeleteI think my parents suspected camp was far less expensive than buying me a horse of my own.
DeleteChia seeds are good for you so I try to sprinkle them on my oatmeal in the morning. Do you still ride? I'm an early bird too. Not a lot of productivity around here after 3 pm lol.
ReplyDeleteI've not been horseback riding since the 80's -- but I'd like to try someday.
DeleteI'm not an early bird, but I am "free as a bird" and love it. Fun post. 😊
ReplyDeleteFrom Cheerful Monk. I tried using Google account but it didn't do anything.
DeleteThanks, Jean! I don't know what's going on, but my Google/gmail account has quit notifying me of comments.
DeleteNice to meet another Alabama blogger! And I think I need more cozy moments in my life.. ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, Lisa! 🙂
DeleteEnjoyed your answers. The bird decor from NM is neat looking. I love the Cardinal..we don't have them here in Washington. Another person mentioned a poppyseed chicken casserole..I need to look up the recipe. I always enjoyed Max Lucado
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your answers. Cardinals are so beautiful. After my dad passed everyone in Florida kept seeing them. It was in honor of my dad after his passing and often our mom, the female would be with him. You need to get that Poppy Seed chicken recipes. My husband would love it.
