Congratulations, Joyce on Hodgepodge #500!
Last time you drove/flew 500 miles (ish)? What's a place you'd like to visit that lies approximately 500 miles from your current location?
It's been 5 years now, I drove to Florida's gulf coast to visit old - and new(!) friends.
God willing, I'm ready to do it all over again!
Tell us about a time recently it felt like you were 'racing against the clock'.
Perhaps when we moved from Arizona to Alabama.
Things happen, yes. But I do my best to plan and prepare so that 'racing against the clock' isn't a thing.
Have you ever attended any really large sporting events? What was your impression of the experience?
Years ago, we had season tickets to the Dallas Cowboys. Think the era of Staubach and Landry.
I'll never forget the time my little mother accompanied us. Because our seats were on the 6th row, every sound was magnified. During warm up she turned to me, eyes wide: "I didn't know they were so loud!"
Ah, those were the days of wine and roses.
I can no longer abide crowds (or the Cowboys) -- but I'm grateful for the good times.
The Superbowl, The Kentucky Derby, The World Series, FIFA World Cup, The Indianapolis 500, The Daytona 500, The Olympics, The Masters, Wimbledon, The Boston Marathon, March Madness, Tour de France, Monaco's Grand Prix, The Open (golf), The Ryder Cup, The Stanley Cup Finals..of the events listed which would you most like to attend in person? Or maybe one that's not listed?
I wouldn't turn down a ticket to the Masters.
Professional golf is still a gentleman's game; the spectators (usually) well-behaved.
Are you an iced tea drinker? If so, do you drink it year round, or only in the spring and summer months? Do you make your own or buy it bottled? Sweet or unsweet? Flavored? Lemon or no lemon? How about a Long Island Iced Tea?
I drink iced tea occasionally; only if it's really hot.
We enjoy Milos brand, unsweetened -- and add fresh lemon or lime.
I've never had a Long Island Iced Tea! Should I put it on the list?

Several ladies at our church are unselfish with their time and talents. I'm not among them just yet.
No, I'm going with all the nameless, faceless folks who rehab and rehome animals - the lost, the abandoned, elderly and/or injured. My heart!

DeleteI love iced tea anytime of year. I used to enjoy it sweet, but now I go with unsweetened. I like to get McDonald's ice tea. It's the best! Otherwise I make my own.Ive been to Baseball games, but not for a long time. Most of the sports events I attend are that of my grandchildren. They play basketball, hockey and soccer. It's always fun to cheer them on. I used to volunteer a lot, but not so much since I've gotten older. I admire those who do. Hope you are enjoying some calmer weather there. Love, ma

ReplyDeleteI have been to the Kentucky Derby and March Madness, but like you, I no longer like to be in crowds. (Except for going to live theater performances. I will get there early, be seated and not fight the crowds at all)

DeleteNot an iced tea drinker, Myra, as it upsets my stomach. I no longer like crowds, so you won't find me at a sporting event or concert. As for traveling? Danny and I can't tolerate driving more than 300 miles in a day. Just the way it is!

ReplyDeleteI have no desire to attend large sporting events. I used to go to Dodger and Angel baseball games when I lived in Calif. - - but baseball has changed so much in recent years that I'm no longer a fan.
I'm definitely a tea addict. I love ANY type of iced tea.
The last time I ever tackled an artichoke was at a private dinner in Beverly Hills (no lie). It was a chore trying to eat it, and I'd never attempt to cook one.
I think eating an artichoke is all about the experience -- but I'm not eager to go there again.

DeleteThat fuzzy part of the artichoke is the choke and there is a way to remove it. I had never eaten a fresh artichoke until after I married Mark. His mom used to make them in the spring as a part of Sunday lunch and the thrill was that each person had their own little bowl of melted butter! haha! Regarding text abbreviations . . .I have an older friend who kept closing text messages with LOL which she thought meant Lots of Love . . .but it means laugh out loud!

DeleteMyra!! Get that Florida trip back on the calendar! I've never tried steaming/cooking an artichoke. I just buy the cans. Probably should change that!! Love & hugs!!

ReplyDeleteDriving 500 miles. That's brave. Did you know that if you drove non-stop for 23 hours and 55 minutes you'd be 5 minutes from Tulsa?
I like your answers. Do you eat just the inside (stem) of the artichoke or also the flesh on the leaves. We used to have them stuffed with bread crumbs and garlic amongst the leaves.

having been raised in the deep south, ice tea was always my go to when thirsty. I gave it up because of IBS.. i had changed from SWEET tea to unsweet made sweet with sweet n low.

ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, yes. It is fun to see others' 500-mi. radius. I fear my knowledge of US Geography has really faded since grade school.
DeleteActually we had to write it on paper but the teacher would take me and another girl in the class into the hallway and told we could write them 100 times each because we had so many spelling words wrong It certainly didn't teach me a lesson for her to go easy on me.

ReplyDeleteI had to write sentences on paper, not 500 thank goodness. Talking in the library in middle school. 😂 The longest I’ve driven is Washington state to Mobile AL. After my little brother graduated high school, he and a friend came back to Kansas with me and we took them to see the Kansas City Royals play. I don’t remember who they played ( I was 5 months pregnant with my oldest) but on the way home we were in tornado warnings. A couple of semi’s ended up on their side. We were fine though. I like spinach and artichoke dip, but seems I remember reading cooking artichokes was a process, I would just buy mine in a can. I’m southern so we do like iced tea, usually unsweetened now, but I like sweet as long as it’s not too sweet. Take care, Sheila
