It's good to see the Hodgepodge back in my reader. Joyce, you were missed!
Without further ado, Good Morning!
Tell us anything you want about your January.
Actually, I'm stunned it went by so fast!
I was going to say 'unremarkable', but no. I took on Jenna's Streaking Challenge and have finished two good books ... working on a third.
'Not quite ready for the varsity team, but it feels good having my mojo back.
Lake Superior State University posts a list each year of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse and/or general uselessness. The 2023 list includes GOAT, inflection point, quiet quitting, gaslighting, moving forward, amazing, does that make sense?, irregardless, absolutely, and it is what it is.
Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly? Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word/phrase not on the list you'd like to add?
I've never heard of 'quiet quitting', so that's out.
Then a fond memory of arguing with my favorite boss, after he told me 'irregardless' wasn't a real word.
No, after watching season after season of The Bachelor franchise, my choice goes to 'amazing.' It definitely sets my teeth on edge.
And how about, let's add WOKE to the Banish list.
February 2 is Groundhog Day. What's something that feels repeated in your life right now?
Rain, rain ... and more rain.
The trout stream's filling up again.
What's a food you love that's named after a place?
Hatch Chile rocks!
More than 30,000 people travel to this tiny burg each year. Click here to see why.
What's the best season of the year to visit your city or your party of the country? Tell us why.
Autumn foliage in Alabama is a buffet for the eyes!
Plus, college football's nothing to sneeze at.

my first aid is not working any more, in fact makeup seems to call attention to the wrinkles instead of hiding them.
ReplyDeleteI went to Hatch and wow, who knew it was a place. bob watches a show called dirty jobs done somethng or other and this week he was working in a place like Hatch, the workers were working with those chilis and the host of the show was crying, hacking, coughing, eyes running as they mashed and stirred them. they told him they are used to it and it doesn't make them do that.
as I came to a stop, I was staring at Josh and Sarah and it made me smile. tiny girl tall guy, my son is that way too. 6'5'' and she is 5 feet.
I wish I could stop using the word amazing. I hate it too and it is my go to word because I can't come up with another one. if they remove it, lets have new words...
I, too, say it all the time. I'm trying to use others, like splendid ... stunning ... even wonderful.
DeleteGoat? You're kidding me. Anyway, irregardless whether it is a word or not I would continue to use it; irregardless of what the boss thinks.
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed how Groundhog Day keeps reoccurring every 2 February?
Keep smiling and keep well. God bless always.
Hahahaha! I'd just like to know who decides who's a goat (Greatest Of All Time) and who's not.
Deleteoh my goodness - designed for the elderly with her as the model - not good marketing!! I hope you have a great day . . .I'm tired of the rain, too!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? We're supposed to get another round this afternoon; at least no ice. I hope.
DeleteI don't think I use any of those words very often. From time to time I use amazing and absolutely, but I don't think I've ever said or written quiet quitting. Don't talk about work very much anymore. :)
ReplyDeleteI know; isn't retirement the best?!
DeleteAt a certain age makeup does feel a bit like first aid lol. Woke for sure, but more the concept than the word itself.
ReplyDeleteGood point!
DeleteHi Myra. Yum Hatch chilies. Just last week I ordered the special at a restaurant because of the Hatch chilies! Yes...get rid of Woke! Happy February to you!!
ReplyDeleteSadly, we don't have any restaurant fare like that around here. That which I get comes from Hatch on dry ice.
DeleteGood morning.
ReplyDeleteOMG! You are SO right about the word “woke.” It makes we want to hurl! Being “woke” seems to be an excuse to stay asleep to the real issues at hand.
I can’t remember if I’ve asked you before, but what part of Alabama are you from? I live in Colorado, but am originally from Jacksonville, Alabama. And yes, autumn and football make Alabama a great place to live. #RollTide #FearTheBeak
I smiled at you and your friend’s assessment of that add. My sister, Clara, and I were talking about that stupid “sticky bra” ad that keeps popping up on YouTube. We both said when they show it work on some old, saggy, Triple D breasts (which it won’t), then we’ll think about it.
Thanks for such a fun blog.
Thank you for visiting, Shannon! I had to ask Google, "Where is Jacksonville?" We've only been here (just outside Montgomery) 5 years. 'Just sorry it took us so long, lol.
DeleteHow nice you are reading. I agree with WOKE. Since I've been out of town I am looking forward to watching my recordings of the Bachelor. So true about the rain. True, the ad should show an older women for sure. That first aid sign is funny!!
ReplyDeleteI've tried distancing myself from The Bachelor the last couple years ... but it keeps sucking me right back.
DeleteI like the word amazing and do watch the Bachelor, it's always amazing to see what they come up with next. I could do without the word gaslighting who would ever want to experience that. I use the word wonderful a lot. Life is wonderful! I enjoyed your hodgepodge very much. Hope you have a wonderful February and find it wonderful ! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing (that) you watch The Bachelor, too! When my (former) boss was in a good mood, each Tuesday morning we'd compare notes on the previous night's episode.
Delete'Wonderful' is a wonderful word!
Great and humorous answers, Myra! I agree that we should banish the word "woke" right along with the foolish concept. Quiet quitting? It's when people passive-aggressively come to work, but refuse to do anything beyond what's already asked of them. When they're found out? Well, you get the picture.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
How absurd! Yes, now that you mention it, I've witnessed several examples of quiet quitting in my former workplace.
DeleteMississippi Mud Cake
ReplyDeleteMississippi Pot Roast
Two of our favorites!
DeleteYou are soooooooooooo funny.
ReplyDeleteI hate the word WOKE too and LIT.
The ad should picture an older woman.
My first aid - I am getting allergic too.
I watch the Bachelor - Have you watched Married at First Site - it is better!
Thanks, Sandie! I've not seen that show, but will look for it.
DeleteOkay pretty lady, I AIN'T saying nothing about January, cept it turned me 84. LOL
ReplyDeleteWe have been AWOL for awhile, will try to do better. Loved the graphics and as always the pics on the side bar!
Sherry & jack still cold. LOL
84's a GOOD number, Jack. So glad to 'see' you back in Blogland. Bundle up!
DeleteLOL to the bra ads (I agree!) AND the make-up on the first aid aisle!! I was so happy to see the Hodgepodge back!! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMe, too! I hope you enjoy a wonderfully-blessed day.
DeleteI am laughing and agreeing with your comment on 'designed for the elderly!' So true. And I'm with you on WOKE, send it down the drain with the bath water. jmho
ReplyDeleteTwo thumbs up! 😊
DeleteI am right there with you. I have had enough gray days for a while.
ReplyDelete🥴
DeleteI finally figured out what GOAT means, but I won't miss it if it disappears. 😊
ReplyDelete😉
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I guess I never knew Hatch was a place. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteYou would love Loretta from New Mexico! She is in love with her native state and always throws little digs at those who love the Pueblo chili hahaha. I will take either thank you. Gaslighting is the most ridiculous word in the history of the nonsense of this once beautiful country of ours. Pick up a bible people - you will get more learning from it than people who wants to stir the poison pot and feed it to those looking for drama in their lives.. America has been fed so much poison now the losers are back tracking, These special words to keep them in the spotlight. BARF!
