Last Friday I visited Prattville's old historic district.
There's just something about original brick that totally captivates me.
Ever wonder what happens to unsold 'stuff' at estate sales?
It's likely they wind up in a warehouse like this.
Seeing this liked to break my heart.

I don't know about you, but my photographs are my most precious possessions.
It would kill me to see them tossed in a big old trunk like this.
If you've any theories who'd actually buy them, I'd love to hear them.

On a more pleasant note ...

The Coca-Cola cracks me up because (much to Tom's dismay) they only serve Pepsi.
Tom had a double cheeseburger, fries and soda, and mine was a yummy Buffalo chicken salad.
Would you believe, for less than $20!

Not mine, but I fell in love with these 'book nooks' on Facebook.
I can totally envision this in our spare Bedroom/Office/Depository of all objects I don't know what else to do with.

That restaurant looks and sounds like a place I would love. My hubby would be disappointed that they don't serve diet coke too. I love your home. The nook in the sun room looks so nice and I would love spending time their reading or crocheting. Have a great day!

DeleteI love coke more than pepsi too. And I love that book nook. Who would ever give away their old pictures like that. I have many of my mom's here at my house and I hope my kids will take them when I'm gone, but who knows. Our family history is in those old photos. I'm drooling at the idea of eating a cheeseburger and french fries. They are sadly no longer allowed for me. I would love to visit a place like that. I do love estate sales and have a few treasures that were purchased at them. Hope you have a great weekend ahead. Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThankfully, most of the old photographs I've inherited have been labeled on the back. Like you said, it's my family history. It's not my place to dispose of them like old socks.

Is it just me? I cannot tell the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi. Even though the name is written on the can.

Hmmm... that's a plausible explanation! I can't tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi either, but I do enjoy Diet Dr. Pepper.

DeleteOh, my! How sad, that trunk full of photos left behind with no one to claim them! Heartbreaking. I love the old brick buildings and walls, and the Coca Cola sign in the place only serves Pepsi. That is a bit of a sacrilege, I would say, but I really don't drink either one, so it doesn't matter to me. It's just the principle of the thing. It just shouldn't be done! LOL. I love your book nook ideas for your guest room. I would love a place like that too. And I do love your own sunroom brick wall and cozy spot to read! How lovely! Your family room photo with the fireplace and the beautiful hall tree piece and the floors (are they new? I don't remember seeing them before...thought you had carpet?), and your sweet doggie. Love it all...so welcoming. Love it! Take care and enjoy your lovely home. It's a keeper.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet you are! Believe me, our little home is nothing fancy but it's my happy place. These floors (tile actually) are about 3 years old now. There was laminate before, but it lifted on account of a flood. Yes, we have carpet remaining in the front (living) room and dining room.

DeleteWhen Hubby's great aunt died, he became the owner of four large plastic tubs of photos and snapshots. He could recognize the people in about a tenth of them. (Great Aunt had no children, and her husband preceded her in death.)
ReplyDeleteHe worked on distributing those photos and snapshots for a couple of years then gave up and offered them to a historical organization. I wonder where they ended up?
Interesting! I sure admire your hubby's efforts! I've not taken a 'real' photograph in years, but those I have in bins and scrapbooks, I'm doing my best to identify on the backs.

ReplyDeleteIt seems there are Old Photo Collectors, very intersting. No one wants my old photos so I told bob to throw them in the trash if I go first.
I tried to give the ones of my sons to them and they refused. each took a few, maybe 6.
I wish I had a reading nook, by that I wish I had a comfy chair far away from TV.. i would like your back porch but all i see on the ones by the window is dust on books and STUFF and all those windows need cleaning and how does an old person stand on the bed to clean the glass...

DeleteRight, there is no place like home and I enjoyed visiting your home today. I can see a lot of good books being read and peaceful times being enjoyed on your sun porch. I also loved the character of the new place to eat, and under 20bucks, amazing these days!! Tell Tom I'm with him on the pepsi vs cokes!! :)

DeleteOoh the diner looks so cute and food so reasonably priced. Someone once told me businesses switch back and forth between Pepsi and Coke. Schools too in vending machines. Since I went off on my tangent of phamily photos already. I have bought many thrift store books dedicated to so and so. So sad. But a friend recently went to a thrift store, picked up a book and it was one she gave to her daughter! Younger people are clueless to anything of value. Most of them anyway. I talk with my sister about it all the time. She has her life crammed in a bedroom at her grand daughters home. I think that is so sad.
