Celebrating

Senior citizen style, in the slow lane!

Good evening friends,

Color me excited!
After 11 long months, my son and DIL's home's sold Thursday for full asking!

They went to Atlanta for a Tina Turner tribute concert this weekend for Lois' birthday -- but this coming week's going to be busy, busy, busy.   They're staging their own Estate/Moving sale next weekend and have asked Tom and I if we'd come help out.   I'm excited -- but remembering the crowds at those I've attended, plenty nervous, too!  Hope Troy''s got a big bat!

🎉

I know Mardi Gras' come and gone -- but today Tom's observing his 81st 'Happy New Year'!  Woo-hoo!

Since it takes us a little longer getting around, we began Friday afternoon ...

... where I treated him to a pedicure.

I splurged on a gel manicure -- my first in 5 years -- and gasp!
Throwing caution to the winds, I'm now the owner of 10 crimson nails.

Even in my younger days, I've never worn anything more daring than beige.  3 days later I'm still startled when I look down -- like my hands belong to someone else ... a mannequin, even.
Simple pleasures!

🎉

Yesterday was low key; Tom slept most of the day.  By late afternoon, however, he felt up to grilling steaks we enjoyed with asparagus and cottage cheese.

Does anyone else spread cottage cheese over and around their steak?  I've never had Beef Wellington, but pretend that's what I'm eating.  (lol)

🎉

Spontaneous?  Not until I'd returned from church did Tom decide what he wanted to do/where to go.

I presumed we'd go to our favorite (Longhorn Steakhouse), but he felt more in the mood for Mexican.

There's never a bad time for chips and salsa!
Or margaritas.
... Which, of course, mandated a mid-afternoon nap!

I totally forgot to buy birthday candles -- but given this petite birthday cake ...

I thought the taper made for a cute juxtaposition.

Making a wish
Happy New Year!
... every day's a great time to have a great time, don't you think?

The End.
Thanks so much for visiting!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Happy Birthday and Happy New Year to Tom and you. It's great to be pampered.

Congratulations on selling the house too.

I've never tried cottage cheese with steak. I'll try that next time.

Keep happy and cheerful often. Cake always helps.

    God bless always, Mevely.

    1. Thanks! I was a little concerned when the parade revelers threw me the bear instead of the cute little girl standing beside me. But then they threw her a pink unicorn so it's all good!

  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Tom! I think it's a great time to celebrate a New Year ! Congrats to your son on selling the house, but an estate sale does sound like a lot of work. Hope all goes well and you all aren't exhausted afterward. Just try and enjoy the time spent together ! Love, ma

  6. Wait a minute - - is the birthday cake in that little jar?? I like the taper candle.....but it would be immensely amusing to see you trying to put 81 candles on the jar cake. Anyway, Happy Birthday to Tom! Mexican food sounds great to me. So does steak and asparagus - - MINUS the cottage cheese.
I like the cute Mardi Gras bear.
BTW - isn't another birthday coming up in March? (*smile*).

    1. You've got a good memory, Jon. Yes, I may celebrate all month, starting Wednesday. We try not to keep lots of sweets around the house, but when I spotted that cake-in-a-jar at our local grocery store, I had to get it. Small portion, no guilt!

Great news about the "kids", Myra. Don't stress yourself too much helping them out with the purging that's coming up. From one gray mare to another, we ain't what we used to be!

  10. Happy Birthday to Tom! Looks like you celebrated in grand style! Sounds like fun. I would love a pedicure. One of these days I'm going to splurge. Oh, I am so happy for your kids selling their house, and now comes the real fun. I hope you have great weather for the sale and lots of customers. But be sure to dress comfortably, especially shoes, and stay hydrated and sit as often as you can. Days like that can be so exhausting. Wish I lived closer...I'd come and shop! Have a wonderful time. God bless you all.

  12. I know our birthday card for Tom will arrive late. I love your Marfdi Gras bear. Blake has a collection of the Peeps bunnies. Oh my goodness. I will have to post that photo Jeremy shared from a Target store. hahaha - he is quite generous too with his Peep Bunnies. He said, last time they were here, here grandma you can cuddle this one. It was pink and perfectly perfect! I should write about the one and only Beef Wellington we had when we were dating hahahaha. It was very good but we felt so out of place in this super upscale ritzy restaurant. My toes were hacked up by that lovely podiatrist so no pedis for me.i have not had a manicure in a few years although it sure does sound nice. Oh I would love to be at the sale with you. How fun. You need people like Hannah, our baby girl or my niece Holly and her husband Steve. They have skills to keep their eye on everyone! hahaha Where is your son and wife moving to? The house looked very lovely. Enjoy this new week and stay happy! Birthday wishes for Tom. HUGS

  15. Cottage cheese, not ever tried that. Interesting. Merriest bday to Tom. I am an artist and with that you think I would go all out with color, in what I wear or my decor. I like to play it safe, I like creams and beiges also. BUT I will add bling and color with my accessories. HAHA....
