Gonna streak

Happy Monday, y'all!

I'm so excited to have FUN streaking.
Okay ...  get your mind out of the gutter.  It's not that kind of streaking.

As some of y'all know, I'm a bit infatuated with Today's Hoda and Jenna.   Unlike 'some' queens of the small screen, they're down to earth -- like someone you'd ask over for coffee, not worrying if the kitchen's so clean.

Anyway.  Does that mean I make it a habit to watch?  Nope.  I've not been into 'appointment television' since Dallas went off the air.

Last week, however, I caught mention of an upcoming story line, "Streaking with Jenna.".   Note to self:  Must invest*Google.   (You can read about it here)

In a nutshell, I want to rediscover what was once my passion for reading.   I've dabbled in e-books ... paper and ink ... audio.

You've heard me say it before.  Like Keto, however, my Great Intentions fall by the way after a few days.

I hope this challenge will make me accountable.  It's all about discipline ... something lacking since I retired.   I like that she says, "Streaking is an effective tool for habit forming.

My personal 'light bulb' moment:
"Leave your phone in the other room."   If mine's not in my hand, it's within reach.   24/7.   You know, "just in case" someone bings me ... or earth-shattering news come down the FB pipeline.

Who wants to come streaking?

Hugs, Myra

  2. A streak reader - lol. Cute. I do read some every day - but all different kinds of things. Reading is fundamental! Good luck.

  3. I read every day already. Have read 3 books so far this year and I keep a list going in my daily journal that I keep. Guess I am good, but it's a great idea.

  5. I love to read and I'll streak with you. I like Hoda and Jenna too, although I don't watch them too often because I watch The Price Is Right on another station!

  6. i read the link and this sounds perfect for you to get back in the habit of reading. I read 2 to 4 hours a day of fiction only, the kind that grabs me and will not let me put it down. when my mind will not quit spinning when I lay down at night, i grab the kindle that lives by the bed and read until it shuts down. usually about 20 minutes sometime more. I have been reading every day since i could hold a book, and before kindle I did library and bougth 2 to 3 paperbacks every Saturday. I bought paperbacks at discount used books where I could train 3 books for one. Now I do kindle unlimited for 10 bucks a month plus the library. if what the link said is true I should be save from cognitive problems. bob says i love reading more that I do him, also says I love the dog more, and he is right. only one suggestion, don't let anyone tell you what to read. only read what YOU love, something you can't stand to not read. you want to pick it up to see what is happpening. also suggest turn off the notifications dings on your phone. i have none on, except messeger, and text and I leave my phone in the kitchen so I don't hear them come in, i just check them once in a while.

    1. I agree about reading only those that capture my imagination. Nope, I'm not going to feel badly about myself if I don't like the latest and greatest.

  7. What a great idea to keep us on the reading track, Myra! I didn't keep a list of all the books I read last year, but am doing so for 2023. It's almost like keeping a journal. I do hope this helps you get back into the reading habit!
    Blessings!

  8. Good luck with the streaking! Sounds interesting. I am still hooked on Prime Time TV but I do need to make changes to take time to read and declutter the house.

  9. If I understand you right, by streaking you mean regular reading. I too find this difficult. Also, sometimes I read but not concentrate because my mind is elsewhere. I suggest you read books with short paragraphs or articles. Like devotionals, or daily prayers, or daily Bible readings or quotations.

At the risk of advertising, I have found this book by John T Woolley very helpful. Whenever I need inspiration, encouragement or Divine help I open it at any page and read just that one page.

I AM WITH YOU - John T Woolley

I Am With You is the best-selling devotional in the UK. These words of divine encouragement were given to John Woolley in his work as a hospital chaplain, and have since inspired and uplifted tens of thousands, even changed their lives.

    God bless.

  10. I read every day, at least a chapter in a book if not more. I actually have two books going at the same time... one on my phone in the Kindle app and one on my actual Kindle Fire. The one on my phone gets less attention but I'm happy in waiting rooms knowing I can catch up and not get frustrated with a long wait. As for my phone, I leave mine at home at least 3-4 times a week and don't panic about it. I also leave it in one room while working in another. I am glad that my smart phone syncs with my Chromebook AND my Kindle. The Cloud is a marvelous thing! LOL Love ya!
