Isn't it funny how random memories pop-up when you least expect it?
This morning, for example. Preparing for an appointment at the medical center this afternoon, I wanted something "smart casual" -- v. the "homeless" look I've been guilty of affecting.
... smiling to remember the days (80's, wasn't it?) when one took care to coordinate their underwear, handbag-to-shoes, jewelry, etc. Important stuff!
These days, the only pieces of jewelry I wear are my rings. Good if I remember not to wear black "unmentionables" under white slacks/shirts. (Not applicable after Labor Day IYKYK!)
Not why, but I've become obsessed focused on matching socks to my tops. I still enjoy wearing nylons on Sunday morning but love socks of just about every persuasion.
Men, I've not forgotten you! Maybe because he wore a uniform to the workplace, my father loved dressing nicely on days off. I still have a little box containing his tie clips and matching cufflinks.
Just curious ... is accessorizing important to you? How so?

Well, my parents sent me to a finishing school. I was about it for years and years and years. Same color accessories. The way I sit. Having on only 7 items. All sorts of things.

DeleteAt my age (?) I can wear what I want. I wear jeans pulled up high and held there with a belt and braces. They show off un-matching socks. Also a check shirt, usually red. As an accessory sometimes I wear a bright yellow tie with pink spots. People in the street always look at me and whisper to each other. I think they like my fashionable style.

One of my favorite former clients always wore mis-matched "lucky" socks. I wonder if yours brought you luck?

Deletein the now, I wear nothing but t-shirts and leggings. do not carry a purse, only have 2 black sandals, so none at all and have not worn my rings since 2020 and a few weeks ago, decided to try on my 4 silver rings I used to wear every time I went out and the fall off my fingers. I don't have a ring that fits.
ReplyDeleteback in the 60's and 70's I did have a purse that matched the four colors of shoes. navy, black, red, beige.
never had a purse that cost more than 5 dollars and did a happy dance when THEY said it was ok to go to church without a hat
I think I recall those multi-colored purses! My dad went through a period where he insisted my mother and I wear hat to church; thank goodness, that didn't last.

DeleteI used to love wearing accessories, Myra, but now, like you, only my wedding rings. We simply don't get out like we used to, so why bother? Since having those balance issues, I only wear socks and my faithful Skechers, even to church. Yes, we're a casual bunch! Have a great week, my friend!

I haven't worn a pair of hose in years. In fact I don't even think I own any any longer. Since I have bad bunions it Sketchers all the time.
I have my Daddy's tie clips and cuff links too. He was such a dapper man !

DeleteMy mom was very much “a lady” and my sister and I learned from her. To this day, I still like to accessorize what I’m wearing but mostly now when I’m out and about.

DeleteMyra, I have so much jewelry and it just sits there, forgotten! I wore a necklace to church and had three comments on how pretty it was. I wear earrings, my watch, and my smart ring. I chuckle when I watch (usually once a day) an episode of Leave It To Beaver. The dad wears a suit and tie all the time, and the mom wears dresses, jewelry (pearls!) and not a hair out of place. Me... baggy tshirts with denim capris or jeans. I am such a lazy slob. Loved this!! xo

DeleteIf you could see my current outfit you would hoot and scream in laughter. I have what I call my "house clothes", which is usually my very messed up navy capris, the ones I splashed a bottle of bleach on not long ago when it fell to the ground and the lid flew off and bleach went everywhere, mostly on my pants. Thankfully they were aleady old, and I noticed the material is getting so thin in places you can almost see through them. The t shirt I wear also has bleach splatters on it, but I prefer it (or several others of similar status) to where around the house, because if it isn't bleach, it's tea stains, or grease. Who knows what might jump out and splatter on me? So why wear good clothes in the house? Now, when I go out on errands, I change my capris and t shirt to some that aren't splattered. I wear my rings and watch and sometimes my mother's gold bracelet. To church I wear either pants and a nice top, or sometimes a dress or skirt.(and a top, of course) If the latter, I wear either knee highs or panty hose, because I like how they feel in the one pair of black leather skechers that I wear to church that don't look like tennis shoes. The rest of the time I wear skechers and no see ankle socks, black with colored stripes on them, which often do end up matching either my shirt or my underwear. LOL. Not on purpose. It just happens. LOL. Oh, to church I wear clip on earrings because I never had mine pierced, and a necklace to go with my outfit. I prefer gold jewelry, but wear silver if the buttons or colors on my top require silver rather than gold. That's it. I have a black purse that I use all the time until it wears out, summer and winter. It's just simpler that way. I hate changing out my purse. I threw away a bunch of very old different colored clutch bags that used to match my different colored heels when I used to wear them. That was a long time ago now. Black is fine for me year round. DeleteI do remember dressing up to go out anyplace. Now I just try to wear comfortable clothing no matter where I go. I don't wear pajama bottoms out, but I do wear shorts going out because it's so hot out. I lived in a time when women only wore dresses, nylons and girdles to hold them up. We'd wear hats and gloves to church too. Now I only put socks on when it cools off here, Most of the time, I am barelegged. The trend today seems to be anything goes and I think I've seen it all. Not pretty sights sometimes and I have to laugh ! Hope you have a good trip to your appointment. Love, ma

DeleteOn most days, I simply try to remember my wedding band/engagement ring and earrings! I always wear my apple watch. I do have several of the cute stretchy bracelets that layer together and I wear those about one day a week.
