Docs, dictionary words and 'stuff'!

But first!

Fall's finally arrived in Central Alabama ...yippee!

Yes, Virginia, Alabama does get cold sometimes.  Coming days' temps sit comfortably in the 40's and 50's ... yum!

So, what do I mean by "Docs and dictionary words"?   Since the calendar cartwheeled, I've had both an MRI and ultrasound -- in an effort to find what's causing my fingers to turn waxy white and lose sensation.  Following a nerve test, Neurology decided I had (dictionary word?) -- basically a pinched nerve.

Amusing, since I've never had a moment of neck discomfort.  They ordered 5 weeks physical therapy, which I promptly declined.

Next, a referral to a hand surgeon for several curious little nodules on my palm.

At day's end, I'm more inclined to believe one of my study sista's diagnosis -- Raynaud's (dictionary word) meaning exactly what I've been experiencing.    Sometimes you have to trust Dr. Google ...and your friends.

(I don't even want to talk about trying to correctly pronounce the names of all our medications.  Not sure, but I think the vet's tech may have snickered when I called to request a refill.  Is there a class for that?)

Around the homefront, it's beginning to smell a lot like the holidays!  My son says that's the biggest trigger for past memories.   I don't know about that, but I'm besotted by all things cinnamon.  Gingerbread.  And that's just in the powder room!

I can't stop washing my hands!
Where was this stuff during the Covid crisis?

Since we're hosting Thanksgiving, I made an executive decision to spare the turkey and traditional sides.  We don't own a smoker, but I want to try my hand at a mesquite-y brisket in the slow cooker.  Perhaps a Cajun meatloaf and cowboy beans.  (No rules!)

Speaking of Cajun!  I clipped what sounded like a great recipe (Cajun Chicken soup) and spent a good part of yesterday chopping and sauteing.  After 7 hours in the slow cooker, I pronounced the appearance "good."  Unfortunately, the taste left something to be desired.  IF I make it again, I promise to only use the written "2 TBSP" Cajun spice.

Because Tom and I've long outgrown eating what's put on our plates, it's a toss-up if we actually finish it ... or wait 'til it's no longer identifiable.  What would you do?

Being as I'm the only soul awake, I think I'll move on out to the sunroom for another cuppa.
Thank you, Lord for another new day!

Hugs, Myra

    1. What a crazy coincidence! I don't see the surgeon for another few weeks, so I'm curious what your doc has to say about those nodules on your palm.

    2. I have those nodules on both hands, in the palms, my mother had them and never went to the doctor, so I have not been either. they come when you get OLD. hahahaha I am waiting to see what the doctor says.

  2. If everyone likes brisket, I say that's the way to go! I know from having weeks of therapy myself. It's no fun running back and forth to those appointments. Hope you can find something to remedy your hand disorder. It seems fall has arrived in Texas just today. Yesterday we were in the 80's, today we're in the 60's, but the sun remains shining. I'm appreciating the heat of it right now sitting on the porch. I don't like to be cold at all and prefer the warmer weather. Hope you are enjoying Thanksgiving Prep, it is half the fun of the holiday!

  3. OK I am smiling. I very seldom move from my 'regular cooking meals' but I tried the BEST FRESH TOMATO SOUP recipe the other day. I musta done something wrong because I did something we seldom do, I flushed the left over 'soup'. Anyway I did enjoy the read and visit. Weather either way seldom bothers me, but my Sherry is right opposite of you she prefers the WARM. I like it myself, but have no problem down to about 32. Not long ago I was comfty down to 10 but no longer.
Love from a drying Eustis Florida..

    1. Funny guy! Believe it or not, the soup must have melded overnight because Tom enjoyed two bowls-full -- and only suggested next time I leave out the celery.

  4. Nothing wrong with being non-traditional at Thanksgiving, Myra. Looking forward to hearing about how it all turns out. Luckily for me, Danny's the cook around here and almost without fail, everything he prepares turns out great. I have to be careful NOT to eat too much of a good thing! Enjoy this fantastically cool weather!

  5. I am praying for your good health right now, Mevely. Also for Tom and your whole family.

WHAT? You eat Gingerbread in the powder room?

Sorry ... only joking. It's my sense of humour going all over the place again. I understood what you meant but could not help my comment.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with the family. Best wishes always from over here.

    God bless.

  6. Your son is so right about fragrances bringing up those memories. The cinnamon pumpkin soap would have me washing my hands umpteen times too.
I seem to be in a cooking rut these days. Maybe its my age ... which will be getting older in 6 days..Hey, at least I am still above ground !!
I am fixing my won ton soup again tonight. Looking forward to that.
Sure hope your hand problem can be "fixed" without surgery etc. 5 weeks of therapy is a lot of time.
    Prayers
I like that you are making different things for Thanksgiving. We're going to our sons and I think there will be all of the traditional things plus some beef thrown into the mix. Its always so tasty..yum.

  8. Well, I hope you get your hand issues all worked out. Nothing like us growing old is there. I found out I have a ganglion cyst now. I might look for the Dove soap! I know you like spice and I don't - it really bothers my stomach - but your hubby must have loved it!

  9. I will have to ponder on your decision to not cook a turkey this year. Frankly, it sounds like a good idea to me, but I don't know if others in my house would be on board.

    1. I come by it honestly! My late father always looked for a nice restaurant on Thanksgiving where he could order steak or lobster. Anything but turkey!

  10. So true about changing tastes. I just wish my reduced appetite would kick in!

  11. Thanksgiving at your house means your menu, your rules Anne in the kitchen

  12. I made some chili not long ago that just didn't taste like my usual, pretty good, chili. I froze two helpings but have a feeling they will fine their way to the garbage rather than the microwave. SIgh. I enjoyed your post and hope you keep us posted on your final decision about Thanksgiving's protein choice! xo

  13. Hurray for cooler weather! And I'm with you about internet searches. Yes, one needs to be careful, but the same thing goes with doctors.

  14. Thanksgiving can be anything at all, as long as you are thankful for that food and love it. we have had hotdogs, split with cheese inside and wrapped in bacon cooked on a grill on TG. no guests just us. burgers and fries are our go to for celebrations.. we will drop to high 50's tomorrow morning, today is beautiful in the 60's going to 77.. woo hoo..

  15. Your finger issues surely does sound like Raynaud's which is an autoimmune issue. I've dealt with it off and on for more than 25 years. Thankfully, it's been more off than on. Mine is secondary to RA. It's annoying for sure. Pray you can get some answers, and you're right that PT would be no help!

  17. Glad your weather is nice. I don't care to go to physical therapy either. Yes, those smells do say
Christmas to me. That sounds like a good Thanksgiving dinner. Adam is talking about making steaks. Sorry about your soup.
