What do you like most about your family?
Besides the fact they're all incredibly good looking and well mannered?

I love that we share common values, especially where faith and politics are concerned. My son's mind never fails to challenge my preconceptions.
What's something nice that's happened to you recently?
Discouraging how employees at our regular grocery store walk about like somebody stepped on their kitten.
Then I met Olori. Her chatty, cheerful demeanor was an unexpected delight. Her voice so melodic, I had to ask, "Where are you from?" ... fully expecting to hear, Jamaica; perhaps the Dominican Republic.

Big smile, "Egypt. I'm from Cairo."
In response to my lame, "Do you miss home?" she said "yes" but added, "I like America better. It cost me a lot of money to come here."
I wish I might have learned more, but others were waiting to check out. Even Tom, who never pays attention, remarked on her friendly personality. That little interaction made my day lots brighter.
I've never met anyone from Egypt before. Especially in small-town Alabama. Have you?

Definitely my long-neglected faith. Too, the sisterhood I enjoy with (most of) my Bible-study friends. (Smart-ass old ladies keeping it real.) We may disagree at times but at the end of the day we've got each other's backs.

Encountering a friendly employee somewhere is nice. I have a friend from Egypt. I'm glad you reconnected with your faith and it's been a blessing to you these last few years. Life is hard without it. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteOrange is such a bright cheerful color. I love all things orange. That cheerful girl from Egypt sure did make your day. Truly wish all people all people could be more like that. No I've never met anyone from Egypt. I would like a Hallmark movie rather than a scary one. I love all of Hallmarks Christmas presentations. Like you I would prefer the bond fire more than hiking. Somes of the best and most fun times I had with my family were around our camp fire.Hope you enjoy your October ! Love, ma
ReplyDeletethe only orange i have is my hoody like yours but minus the number on the front, love that photo, and that is a super shot of all the ladies and you under the side is cute but the giggles came from the baby sitting on the table, she looks like she is posing like everyone else. good job on the photo to the camera person. I love the lilt from the islands, and they are all friendly too. I think they and the lady from Egypt are so happy to be here they are all nice... the only thing i have now that i did not have five weeks ago is a husband in a hospital bed and i am not happy about that one

Every once in while there will be a friendly checker...How sweet for the girl from Egypt to bring happiness to your day. I can not do scary..I think my blood pressure goes up and I can't sleep..I'll have to stick to the Hallmark (which has the same ol' same ol' each show)..What a gorgeous sunset. Can you even begin to imagine the colors we will see in heaven some day..? Have a good one Myra..

And no, I don't believe I have ever met anyone from Egypt. I'm glad that she is happy here and that she appreciates what a blessing it is to live in the USA! It's something that we should never take for granted, that's for certain! I've missed you all while I was away vacating. I'm glad to be back "home again". Happy Days.

I agree with the sour look on so many store people. I really try to smile and wish them a good day. Many are surprised when I do that. It really is a face brightener.
Love me some apple cider donuts and pumpkin bread. Actually I am eating some homemade banana bread as I am writing this. Sooo good !
Ruins my diet but yummm anyway.

ReplyDeleteI have never been to nor met anyone from Egypt. BUT had a cousin who worked there in Textiles once. He liked it but had a rough time with the language... Glad you are enjoying your time with those 'older' ladies. LOL and YES we are proud to know you, for yourself.. Love you girl.. from a tired old man in Florida
ReplyDeleteOur next door neighbors ( for about a dozen years) were from Egypt. We loved them dearly and I still keep in touch with them. I always felt so stupid around them. They all spoke English, Arabic, and French, and when they had an argument or something to talk about and did not want their kids to understand them, they spoke Italian,
