Do you enjoy experiencing new recipes or crafts?
I seriously need to quit getting sucked into these reels on social media. #1, (because) I suck at crafts and #2, I never pass up an opportunity to create an easy dinner.
For instance?
Had I watched this Thanksgiving craft before Dollar General closed last night? Chances are, there'd be a host of pool noodles-zip ties-wine glasses-votive candles-artificial Autumnal blooms taking up space on my dining room table. Not only is it (the table) too small for what promises to be a stellar Thanksgiving centerpiece ... but creativity isn't my strong suit. Thank goodness for a good night's sleep/cooling off period!
Now, to the test kitchen --
The model/spokesperson with toothpaste-commercial good looks holds a bag of frozen hamburger patties, promising the "best" Salisbury steak ever, done in the slow cooker.* Inexpensive and simple, yes. Unfortunately, less than stellar. Even using fresh mushrooms and plenty of garlic? One and done.
The award for "Most Gullible" has to go to Tom. We both love eggs, but unless I'm using Egglettes to hard boil, the resulting product isn't so attractive.
Bless his heart (lol), here's what was advertised:
The result?
hear her pronounce Beef Consomme' (lololol).

Uh-oh! Good thing egg prices have dropped, Myra, I agree. Glad the girls got a treat, though. Have a blessed week, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and Danny the same!
DeleteI am guilty of thinking I "need" to do things I see on videos. Fortunately I am lazy enough that I don't start them immediately, and after a cooling off period I can cull what I truly want to do (turns out to be very little) from what looks like a good idea in that moment. I do need to go to the store and get me a can of con-sume. She has either got to be from Southern Tennessee or Sand Mountain in Alabama.
ReplyDeleteI have only bought frozen hamburger patties one time. Once was enough.
We used to enjoy the (box) frozen "Bubba's Burgers" but thought I'd save a few cents on another brand. It's true, you get what you pay for.
DeleteMost of the laughing I do these days is laughing at my self over the crazy things I do. Well it is better to laugh than to cry which is the other alternative.
ReplyDeleteLaughing is so good for us and makes us healthier people tool I like to try new recipes and look for the easiest ones I can find. I have made eggs in the microwave many times I please it in a bowl, crack the yolk and cook for 1 minute and viola I have my egg for an egg sandwich! Don't stop trying new things, whatever it may be. Sooner or later you'll find just what you like ! We are all works in progress! Love, ma
There you are ... good advice!
Deleteno giggles today, this one did not produce giggles, it produced an uproar of laugh out LOUDLY.. the eggs, oh my goodness, The Eggs. I am still laughing.
ReplyDeleteI am with Anne, froze burgers only once, in fact the only thing I buy frozen in meat dept is Philly cheese steaks to cook for bob and frozen talapia. we love it and I buy 10 fish in a bag, and if I forget to plan a meal, I open the resealable bags, drop 2 or 4 in a bowl of water and they thaw in under 10 minutes and ready to cook.. in fact today is day 3 of eating talapia because the fish were so big, 4 of them made 3 meals.
I don't think I/we've ever tried talapia. Is it mild, like cod?
DeleteWould you believe that a couple of weeks ago, Sam said he had to show me something.. He did this same egg thing and it left my house stinking and it was a mess... LOL. I am laughing because I know yours was excited about this as well...
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! Too funny!
DeleteI've baked many a disaster in the kitchen. The bread I made yesterday is as hard as a brick. I tried poached eggs in the microwave oven and it made a mess. It's quicker to phone for a pizza delivery.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and God bless, Mevely and Tom.
I agree! Have you ever tried pizza with an over-easy egg atop? It's actually delicious -- not so different than an omelet.
DeleteNo ... never tried that. What a great idea. Thanx Mevely. I always add extra ingredients on the pizza; but never thought of an egg.
DeleteGod bless always.
Oh my those eggs sure don't look like the pictures. I get sucked into those Reels and recipes too. They never seem to come out like the pictures suggest.
ReplyDeleteThank you for my "morning giggle"
Sue
True that! There's little truth in advertising these days.
DeleteI'm still trying to figure out what the first picture was all about...what is in that bowl? Are they red potatoes? They look interesting. The only eggs I ever cook in the microwave is when I make egg custard. That works perfectly if you follow the recipe. It's a nice little treat once in a while. I've never tried frozen hamburger patties, and I don't think I'd want to try them in a slow cooker. What happens to the grease? I always have to drain off the grease from any kind of hamburger meat. Just wondering. Those eggs sure are funny, but I'm sorry they didn't turn out. It was definitely a good try. I try to avoid new fangled ways of cooking eggs. I can only imagine what a mess I'd make, and that keeps me from doing it. LOL. This was fun. Thanks for sharing it all with us.
ReplyDeleteThat's an old picture, so I can't remember what Tom was making. Now that you mention it, I don't recall there being much grease. (That might have been an improvement, actually. LOL)
DeleteI always had bad luck boiling eggs. Mostly the shells wouldn’t come off smoothly. I read a tip from a chef about boiling eggs and it works beautifully.
ReplyDeleteJust bring the pan of water to a rolling boil and take the eggs straight from the refrigerator and place in the boiling water with tongs. Boil for whatever length of time you normally do.
The eggs will not explode. Only the ones already compromised by a small crack may expell a little of the white into the water. But this does not happen very often. Just let them cool and crack and peel.
Thanks!
DeleteOh, my goodness Myra - I have to be very careful and ask for a second opinion before I get or do anything. I am so gullible and trusting. Love the eggs - lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way!
DeleteThe eggs are so funny. Hopefully it didn't make a big mess in the microwave!
ReplyDeleteI don't see these videos, as I am not on social media. The only ones I will watch are from well-known professional chefs, and then again, it all seems so difficult - I just drool at the finished dish.
They make it look so easy, don't they? Anything labor intensive, however, and I lose interest. Yep, I'm easily intimidated.
DeleteI'm with you about cooking! Fortunately Andy likes plain food so he's incredibly easy to cook for. :)
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteThanks for the smiles, Myra. Wishing you a lovely Saturday evening.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that. I used to be into crafts but not anymore. Sorry the hamburgers didn't turn out great in the crockpot. Oh my on the eggs. Glad the girls enjoyed them.
