Uncharacteristically, I've been feeling a bit anxious. Overwhelmed. For no particular reason.

Some movies and plays had a big impact on people. Orson Welles' radio performance of War of the World's was broadcast on Halloween 1938 causing panic and widespread hysteria, especially in the Grover's Mill area of New Jersey where the "invasion" took place.
Is there a movie that you were greatly influenced or affected by, hopefully in a good way.
I don't know that I'd say "good", but there's a few that left me gutted. I appreciate cinematography that makes me feel. Deeply. Profoundly.

* If you've not heard of GBG, here's a short explanation. I learned all these years later, people are still arguing the PI's "ethically correct decision that might be morally wrong." Unsettling to realize I'm not such a rules follower after all.
I still listen to the song Cavatina which was the theme song from The Deer Hunter. It takes me back to how that movie made me feel every time I hear it, but it is so hauntingly beautiful I can't stop listening to it.

ReplyDeleteI feel a tad bit under-educated when it comes to the film world. I don't really watch many movies (would you believe that I've never even seen "It's a wonderful Life" nor have I ever seen "Gone with the Wind."). See, I told you I don't watch many movies. lol Occasionally, I will sit down long enough to watch movies only if I am really interested. My favorite movie has been The Notebook, followed by Lonesome Dove. LOL.

ReplyDeleteOne with lasting memories will always be West Side Story. The dancing and songs were wonderful. Also Sound of Music will always be way up there on my favorites list.
The movie Unbroken about Louie Zamperini really shows man's inhumanity to man and what accepting the Lord can do to a man. the images of his being a war prisoner are forever etched in my heart and mind. We had the privilege of hearing him speak at our church a few years before he passed away. Our son had the exclusive chance to photograph him and talk with him personally.

I have never seen Saving Private Ryan, The Deer Hunter, or Gone, Baby Gone. I do remember 10 - Bo Derek. I don't remember much about it! I read the book - Bridges of Madison County, but I don't think I saw the movie. We don't watch a lot of movies at our house :-).

I actually cried during The Sound of Music. I remember taking the whole family, plus in-laws and the tickets at the cinema were too expensive plus popcorn, drinks etc ... cost me a fortune. Now I am reminded of that experience every time it is shown on TV, especially at Christmas.

ReplyDeleteBeen feeling a bit unsettled myself lately. So much violence. I pray about this, and the world, often. May there be revival, the Lord take pity on our frailties and take those of us who love Him Home soon.
Mine for funniest is Young Frankenstein. Romantic, Sense And Sensibility (1995 - Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet) is my choice.

I am not shocked to find that after reading all your choices and all the comments above, no one has mentioned a movie I love and I love movies, we have watched thousands of movies over the years, back in the 80's we rented movies. that is when I got to watch movies, daddy never watched them on TV and we did not have a TV. Bob had a DVR and we rented 2 and 3 movies every week end until a long came cable and movie channels. the only movie mentioned today that I watched and it broke my heart and I cant make myself say it was a good movie. Saving private Ryan is the movie.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen The wizard of oz, sound of music or any of the BIG movies. I do not like musicals of any kind, and the old ones where they sang to each other made me shudder. West Side Story was 3 hours long and when we came out I told Madeline I would never sit through a musical again.
old movie stars start with Harrison Ford, in Witness and I loved all his movies until the last couple he has made. I have not seen a movie made in the 2000's that I liked or could even finish.
Favorite movies, Lethal Weapon 1, Conspiracy Theroy, all the Die hard movies, Tombstone and that kind of movie. I am ashamed to say, I loved all the John Wick movies, bob hated them. He can't keep up with who does what. K-9, anything with Jack Bauer in it, now I can't think of his name, the actor I mean... just think what most me like to watch and that is me
My mom was a movie buff but the old classics and those are the ones I know best. I don’t do the academy awards or the Emmy’s. Boring.

I had never heard of Gone Baby Gone, so I had to loo it up. I haven't been to a movie in years.

ReplyDeleteI thought Home Alone was a very funny movie. I remember seeing it not long after my husband died and really needed a laugh back then! My favorites are numerous and I wouldn't be able to lists them all but Christmas movies were definitely among them. Great topic today, bring back some good memories! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me of some of the old actors. I really enjoyed Driving Miss Daisy with Jessica Tandy. I've seen a couple of the movies you've mentioned like City Slickers which was very funny. If by 10 you mean the movie with Bo Derek I think I saw it but am not absolutely sure. The scene of Bo running on the beach got so much coverage that I feel like I've seen the movie, lol. I saw Deer Hunter when it first came out and that was an intense movie for sure.
