Thank you, Joyce!
When the Hodgepodge lands on September 11, I want to acknowledge that. Will you purposely pause to remember, pray or attend any sort of ceremony on 9/11? Share any thoughts or memories you'd like to share about this day.
Oh, my goodness!
Each year at this time is a fresh punch in the gut. I swear I won't, but still cry hearing stories about that day.
Cataclysmic. It wasn't the first in my life. Nor, I'm afraid, it won't be last.
A line in the sand: It changed me ... it changed the America I knew and loved.
I saw something last night that said,
"On September 12 we ran out of flags -- not toilet paper."What happened?
Prayers? Always prayers.
Growing up, did you spend a lot of time with your grandparents? What's something you learned from a grandparent?
Unfortunately, due to significant geographical differences I've few memories of times spent with my grandparents.
What's your go-to breakfast?
That's my favorite meal of the day!
Unlike my father, I don't go all out (protein, fruit, cereal ... the works!), but my go-to is a --
Fluffy* 3-egg omelet liberally stuffed with Conecuh sausage; perhaps fresh Hatch chile.
Stone ground Gouda grits, provided I'm not doing Keto.
* [ 2 TBSP Duke's mayo, 1 ice water ]
Tell us the story behind one of your favorite photos.
The last few years -- when conditions grew really difficult at my workplace -- I regarded it as a touchstone. If it could 'hang in there', so could I.
This week Friday lands on the 13th. Are you superstitious in any way? Do you like scary movies, and if so, what's your favorite?
I'm 99% NON-superstitious.
The 1%'s reserved for anything bearing the numerals '666'.
Not especially. The only 'scary' movies I'd like to revisit would be one of Alfred Hitchcock's.
Insert your own random thought here.
Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot ...

Yes, I remember ... and join you in prayers.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post; especially the first item.
I am not superstitious; but a little bit sticious. For example, I would never walk under a black cat. Or touch a wooden ladder.
God bless.
Me, either! 🤣
DeleteI love America and loved her so much more on 9/12 when Patriotism was reborn and flourished... for awhile. Would love your omelet!! xo
ReplyDeleteYes! Let's make America great again.
DeleteBreakfast if eating out is cheese omelet or belgian waffle or sausage gravy and biscuits. home its 2 slices french bread with PB and apple butter and a table spoon of sunflower unsalted nuts.
ReplyDeleteI am not superstitious, love victors answer, but I did say to the pharmacist this week when we got our flu shots, that I had never had a reaction to a shot. I did try to knock on wood and I am always afraid if I say it out loud it might happen.
Last year I made the mistake of getting the flu vax and C-booster the same day -- one in each arm. Couldn't sleep comfortably for 3 days!
DeleteBreakfast sounds good at your house. I get your Sloopy analogy and I'm happy that you no longer have to hang in there and can instead enjoy your retirement.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cathy!
DeleteYes, always prayers for 9/11. Yum on your breakfast. For some reason I have stopped eating breakfast but I do have a banana. That is a beautiful point "whatever you are going through persevere."
ReplyDelete'Breakfast' is my big meal of the day. I no longer eat lunch (unless we're going out) and just nibble come evening.
DeleteMy favorite breakfast is a boiled egg, a slice of toast with butter and a piece of bacon. I've cut back on the orange juice because of sugars. Oh, and did I leave out the coffee? Black, please!
ReplyDeleteThis is our generation's day that will life in infamy. I can't get through it all these years later without tears and prayers. Blessings, Myra!
Right there with you, Martha! Black, straight up for me, too.
DeleteI was going to post my memories about 9 11 but I just don't have the umph today. It is forever etched in my heart and mind. When you know people involved it takes it to a whole different level.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you and didn't spend hardly any time with grandparents. We live on the West Coast and they all lived on the East. Not many actual memories. Loved them but really didn't "know them".
I love the photos I just recently posted of Dave and I together. At this stage of our lives those photos are precious. I keep telling our sons to take more photos of the 2 of them together. Great memories.
I'm also 99% non superstitious but Like you I don't like the 666 either.
Every morning its 2 fried eggs and sliced mushrooms and a cup of hot coffee. Gets me through until an early dinner.
So grateful it is cooler today!!
Sue
What a story! (Yes, I was too impatient to wait until you felt well enough to share Louie's story.) I like fried eggs and mushrooms, both but never thought about combining them. It's on the list!
Delete9-11 I will never ever forget that day or where I was.
ReplyDeleteA sad time for America.
Sad you weren't close to your grandparents.
So you have a heck of a big omelet for breakfast - eggs are good for you.
Had to look up Conecuh sausage. :)
Where do you get the stoneground gouda grits?
HANG ON SNOOPY! That branch just stayed there. Weird. Sandie
You don't have Conecuh sausage in your groceries? Right now, I get the Gouda grits from two local breakfast spots -- but I've added the stone-ground to my Amazon cart and will add the Gouda. I don't think our local grocer stocks them.
DeleteWhenever I see the footage of the firefighters racing toward the disaster while everyone else is running away I cry. Such bravery and I admire it so. That branch is definitely a wonderful metaphor...hang in there and persevere. I also had to look up Conecuh sausage : )
ReplyDeleteThat's strange ... I thought Conecuh distribution was all over the Southeastern US. While we were living in Arizona my son used to send us their gift boxes each year. Yes, it's that good!
Delete9/11/01 will always be etched in our minds and hearts as a day that all of America cried and came together...especially the day after. But we've lost our way since then and I fear it will take something worse to bring us back together. Our nation truly needs our prayers. Your breakfast sounds interesting. What are gouda grits? Does that mean they have gouda cheese in them? I love eggs and grits (plain) and toast with butter. Or I love toast with PB and Apple Butter. Of course I love bacon, but rarely cook it unless I am really in the mood. Oh, I love that branch dangling picture. I wonder when it finally came loose? Wonderful analogy. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteWe rarely have bacon at home. Not because we don't like it, but man what a mess it makes! Yes, I've an as-yet untried recipe for the Gouda grits where the cheese gets added in a few minutes before serving. Our favorite breakfast cafe makes the best, so we'll see if I actually try my hand.
DeleteLove Sleepy LOL! I spent some time with my Granny Lloyd. She always had a nickel for me. Breakfast? I don't have it often, but I love me a 3 egg veggie omelet.
ReplyDeleteLove from NC.
I remember as a child being thrilled by the odd nickel or dime. Thanks for the memory prompt!
DeleteJoining you wondering where the flags and prayers went.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for folks who are not able to experience Conecuh sausage.
Suggestion for the cheese grits__cook them in chicken broth for a whole new taste profile!
Thanks, Anne ... I'm so going to do that!
DeleteWas a terrible day in our Nation. Prayers continue for our Country. Yum...your breakfast sounds so good. I need to do better at eating breakfast as sometimes I skip it. I'm am not a fan of the scary stuff...I'm a little "Chicken" to watch such things. Happy Thursday...
ReplyDeleteBecause I usually don't do lunch, I now think about breakfast as the most important meal of the day. (Giggling b/c I used to think my dad was crazy for saying that.)
DeleteWhen we have Breakfast, it's usually 3 scrambled eggs with 1/2 & 1/2 added, 2 thick well-cooked bacon slices, and two large cups of coffee each. I won't eat again until Supper.
ReplyDeleteI remember 9-11-2001 vividly. It's etched on my memory. Too bad it's aided in our Nation circle the drain even faster but that was foretold in God's Holy Word, right?! 💙
Breakfast queen! I'd pull up to your kitchen table anytime.
DeleteOh wow...I hadn't seen the thought about running out of flags. :(
ReplyDeleteI liked your thought about when you would see the tree...sometimes we need those reminders.
