Free Range Friday

..... another way of saying, my mind's all over the place! Today, I'm feeling a bit--

Sad:

Earlier this week, the majority of schools in our River Region were the object of threats made on social media.  While no-one came to harm, swift action resulted in something like 8 juvenile arrests. 11 to 14 years old, SMH.

Not only that.  During Bible study my friend Sharon shared how the great-granddaughter she and Billy are raising has in the past few weeks turned from a happy, eager student to a reluctant and retiring 9-year old.  Presley's convinced (that) she's going to die by gun fire while in school.

Accomplished:

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not the brightest bulb in the kitchen.  Nevertheless, yesterday morning I got to chopping and whacking fresh produce, chicken and spices.  6 hours later we've a supply of 'De-Tox Chicken Soup' that should last us throughout the Winter. (This link isn't my recipe, but a close cousin.)

Leery:

I'm pretty sure that coming on the heels of Jennifer Rothschild, any other Bible Study leader's at a disadvantage.

Sure enough.  I'm not ready to throw in the towel, exactly - but neither am I excited about attending the next 6 weeks.

I'm not sure just what it is about this gifted speaker/author, but I'm calling her my 'sandpaper' person.  You know, when someone just rubs you the wrong way?   Good thoughts, please?

Intrigued:

Years ago, after following a link to something I saw on Facebook, I swore off ever buying anything on that platform.  That is, until I discovered TotallyBamboo.com.   This time I just Googled the name and went directly to their website.   Maybe it's because I'm drawn to fun kitchen gadgets, but found another Christmas present for 'that' person on my list who's ridiculously hard to buy for.  Bonus?  They're made right here in the USA.

Silly:

Who'd like to join me?

Happy Friday!

Myra

  1. Oh yes...I want to join you. I think we could be such dangerous Partners in Crime... (:0)
I'm devastated learning about these very young kids doing such horrible things. What is being fed to them through the media is so toxic and dangerous. Prayers for the schools and especially that sweet Presley. I just can't Even....
I know all about "sandpaper" leaders and teachers...maybe this is a good break time...or maybe the Lord is working some things out in you..Not preaching ...just a thought... me talking to myself too.

  2. I had a long comment here, and I hit the wrong thing and ended up throwing myself out of your blog. and lost every word, I am going to take that as a suggestion that I should rethink what I wrote.
I did look at the soup and its beautiful and looks delish, but if I ate one bowl, my Ibs would kick by butt, he he he
I don't do Bible studies, online, on videos or in person. I did teach a few in the past, but it is hard to be a MAD snapper, and the fun part of me bleed over into Bible studies. I say scratch the sandpaper off your to do list.
we went to two churches, each of them had a teacher that was the most boring person on the planet.. one male, one female. and they always chose them to teach a Bible study.
I did take a peek at the thing you ordered from and love the bright colors of some of the items, but I don't use utensils or SALT BOXES.. what the heck is a salt box? and why would I want one? I buy the little black and white round containers at Walmart.
I am available for any stupid things you want to do. come on down..

    1. I've no idea! Tom would probably ask where I got the colored kitty litter and why I'm saving it in a box. (*jk*)

  3. That is all such sad news. What is happening in this country? I will pray for Presley. Way to go on making soup. I just don't care to cook anymore. Sorry about your Bible study. Way to go on finding that Christmas gift. I need to check out the links you shared. Have a nice weekend.

    1. This (soup) is but a once-every-couple-years endeavor. I'm trying to clean up and clean out my metabolism after months of neglect.

  4. Sad: We had the same thing happen somewhere near here in SE Georgia! WHAT IN THE WORLD ... It's the devil on the prowl. So many youngin's are not being raised in the Church and have no moral compass at all.
Accomplished: Well done you. Good planning. Since I mostly eat meat now I haven't had soup in donkey's years. I do like soup though.
Leery: Never heard of Jennifer. I'm more of a Beth Moore person meself. Some of those Christian authors leave me cold. Hope that doesn't happen for y'all in this case.
Intrigued: I like that Bamboo stuff too. Good choice.
Silly: I'll be stupid with ya. I'm told I come by it naturally ... *giggle* 💙

  5. The world is in a very dangerous and sad place right now. I am convinced it is because many more people each day are turning away from God. They may have heard about Him but do not know Him or wish to do so; let alone love Him and obey Him.

    We need to pray more.

    God bless, Mevely.

  6. I can certainly understand Presley's fear and sudden withdrawal. The poor child! I do hope that Sharon will get her the counseling she might need to cope. Why can't children just be children any more??? I guess that's my rhetorical question for today, Myra.
    Blessings!

  7. Me, I would pull that child out of school and invest in a good homeschool group, just my thought. I feel really bad for her and her family.

Let's see, never heard of that study. So, I can't give any thoughts, sorry. I do have authors and such who turn me the wrong way too, and I just usually end up setting whatever down.

Giving you many hugs and lots of love.

  8. I will go check out that bamboo link. Thanks for sharing! I'm not familiar with your Bible study author. My heart hurts for all the youngsters in school today. I hope your friend's daughter can get some help. We have lots of homeschoolers here. A very sad problem, for sure.

  9. It's horrible what happened in your area. I haven't heard about it, although I have cut myself off from watching any news. I already know who I am voting for, so why sit in and listen to lies and just get myself mad?
I don't know who this Jennifer is, but I don't do those kinds of Bible studies. I find I don't enjoy them or learn that much. I find some of those questions in those studies to be just flat. My favorite way is to open up the Bible with a bunch of people, go verse by verse, discuss it, and look up intertextual Bible verses that relate to each other - the old fashion way!
That's really sad about how Paisley feels. That is fear, and I'd homeschool her. I'm so glad I am not raising any children at this time, and while it is unfortunate that I do not have grandchildren and never will, in a way, that is one less thing for me to worry about. I can pray for other children and grandchildren.
    Keep looking UP

  10. All I'll say that I'm glad that I went to school when the world was reasonably normal. Things are disturbingly different now. The social media has caused more corruption than it has anything good. Young children know evil things that I never heard of until I was an adult. And where the heck
are they getting tbe guns ??
I'm too tired to comprehend chaos.....

  11. I'll be stupid with you - sounds like fun.
The kids are getting scared to go to school and parents are getting scared to send them. I hope they take that little girl somewhere to talk to someone.
That soup sounds soooooooooooo delicious. I am making it. Thank you.
The bamboo shop looks interesting too. Thanks.
    Loved it today.

  12. I love that last one about having a friend you can be "stupid" with. I think we all need that kind of a friend who loves you even when you are kind of "stupid", or silly, or just plain goofy. I think I come closest to having that kind of friend here in Blogland. I am more myself here than I am in person, because I just don't think most people around here really "get me". You know what I mean? Maybe I'm just too weird. LOL Oh, that dear child who is afraid about school. I pray God will comfort her and relieve her fears, and I pray her family will be reassuring. However, in today's society, I think we are all rather concerned about that. I understand they had some threats at our local Jr/Sr. high school this past week too. People just get crazy when they see things happen in other places and they try to copycat. That's what concerns me most. Praying. Your soup sounds good. "tis the season" to start making soups again. Yay! Well, maybe not yet here...still need to cool down a bit more, but it's coming little by little. I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow and week next week, and I hope your Bible study works out for you. Praying with you. Bye for now dear friend.

  13. Now...I'm gonna have to check out this totally bamboo.com. Sounds like a neat shopping place. I love soups (just about any kind) ..I'm going to check out the recipe for it as well... I honestly think I could eat soup everyday. I know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to those sandpaper kind of people. I haven't figured out what it is exactly, but there are a couple of pastor's on TV that I have to skip over. I know they have good messages, but it is something about the way they deliver the messages. My daughters are both employed within the school system. One is at a public school and she is a high school counselor. The other is a dyslexia coordinator at a private school. They both speak of the same problems within the schools...private and public. Makes me worry for my daughters and my grandkids....AND the entire school systems. so sad what kids are exposed to today. Happy Sunday to you!!

    1. I pray for our children -- AND educators, alike. This old world's in a heap of hurt, as the old folks used to say.

  14. I enjoyed reading your post today! One week we asked the young professionals who meet at our house every week about their greatest fears. Almost all of them are afraid of being somewhere and a gunman shooting everyone down. My husband is 5 years older than I am and he has always had guns because they have a farm and hunted, etc. He was so shocked by their fear. That makes me so sad about the little girl. Also, now I want to know who the Bible study speaker is . . .

  15. Thanks so much for your comments on my blog. Yes the photos take me back. the photos are a compilation of the 11 years I did that. the last time was 2018. Right before Covid hit and we couldn't go any place. That prompted me to hang up my apron. so much had changed and I just couldn't get with the new program..maybe a bit of old age creeping in. New leadership is still continuing and the kids and adults keep going down to Mexico. God's work is still being done. Its just a whole new group. We all have to move on and be the hands and feet of Jesus where he plants us.
