My week that was

Y'all!
I had so many expectations of myself this week.

Then came Tuesday.  Mid-morning Tom alerted me to his escalating blood pressure.  He was also feeling light-headed, so by noon we I made the decision to go to the ER.

After all their preliminary tests, a decision was made to admit.  Unfortunately, we didn't know it would be 3am before a room came available.
More tests followed, but no-one could/would tell us anything.
Until ...

..... yesterday afternoon the attending cardiologist agreed he could come home -- provided we follow up with UAB sooner rather than later.
Their final report states he has 'medium to severe aortic stenosis' -- so we'll be taking the ride up to Birmingham next Thursday to see what Dr. A recommends.

Thankfully, the swelling in his ankles has all but disappeared and his blood pressure's stabilized.

❤️

Speaking of UAB!   I missed 'Thankful Thursday' but wanted to introduce y'all to Samuel.

Samuel isn't a blood relation, but he is the youngest member of our close church family and is greatly loved.

Born mid-November, he was immediately air-lifted to Children's.  Despite being diagnosed with Esophageal and anal atresia (plus some other challenges I won't get into), this lil trooper's defying medical explanations!

He was scheduled to have his 12th surgery yesterday, but when they go in there, surgeons discovered that, like his esophagus, his problem had solved itself.   In the words of his mother, "Doctors are floored and wondering how to explain it in their surgical report."
His feeding tube's been removed and Samuel enjoyed his very first bottle Monday.

Prayers answered!

❤️

In other news ...

I've a new guilty obsession.
It's called Chick-Fil-A spicy chicken biscuit ... have you tried it yet?  I did everything but lick the paper wrapper.

In a total out-of-character move ...
Day before yesterday I pulled into the "full service" bay at the Chevron station and said, "Fill 'er up."

You know how long it's been?
The little old man was so friendly -- he even washed my windows and asked if I wanted him to check anything under the hood.
Pampered.  Yep, that's how I felt.

... and nope, I'm not going to make a habit of it.

Finally -- I spotted this out on FB and man, it resonated.
Even before Tom's 'incident', I'm becoming nervous over new or unfamiliar places and things that a few years ago wouldn't cause me to raise an eyebrow.

Anyone else?

Okay, I'm going to say g'night now and see what I can find in the fridge that grabs my fancy.

Y'all be good now.
'Til next time!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I'm glad Tom is better for the moment...gladder still that you have an appointment lined up next week with Tom's regular cardiologist. I don't know how it is there, but here, you can wait month to see a specialist, even if it's one you are already established with! A full service station?? Oh that is pampering, indeed. We had one here when the kids were little and I didn't mind paying the higher price to fill up at all. It was so nice not to have to drag the kids out of the car to go pay (this was before pay at the pump and debit cards were a big thing). As a young mom I sure appreciated that. It was nice, too, that the 2 guys who worked there and the owner all knew us, called us by name, and gave the kids treats every time we went. The kids loved going there, too.

    1. I think the only reason we got the appointment is because this hospital is the one that made the call. Nevertheless, I'm grateful!

  2. You actually found a full-service?? I didn't know they still exist. The last time I saw one I was about ten years old.
I can certainly sympathize with Tom's medical woes, and my prayers are with him. Presently my ankles and feet are swollen and extremely painful. The meds aren't helping at all. I'm at the point that I no longer care. I've already been through far too much. Sorry for the complaints.
Samuel is certainly a miracle -.- bless his heart.
I laughed when you said you almost licked the spicy chicken biscuit paper.

    1. This station is just across the street from the hospital. Strategic, no? You're still present in my prayers, Jon.

  4. I am so happy to hear the precios baby is doing so well. I had never heard of this, now I have. Prayers for the family and the baby that he will heal and be home soon.
So glad Tom is home and the BP is down, prayers for the Birmingham visit...
I am straining to remember what i just read. I hate this memory stuff. I love chic fi la and bob does not. I can't eat the spicy but love the regular sandwich. they tore down our bank, less than a mile from us and built a Chic Fi La there.
I did not know there was a station left in the USA that has service to fill up the tank and look under the hood. wow...
hope all goes welll the rest of this week and the doc visit can be scheduled right away..

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, our hospital called UAB and made an appointment for this Thursday! Maybe it's true what they say, it's not what you know but who you know.

  5. OH my, so much here to think about. Tom...praying for him now and that the doctors will have some good and reasonable answers to help him. That had to have been scary for you both. Next, that sweet little baby! What a miracle! That's what I call it! God knows...I love it when the doctors are astounded and have no explanation. That's when we know WHO was really in charge! Now, for the chick fil a sandwich...we don't have one near us, so I've missed out on that tasty treat. And a full service gas station? What's that? I seem to remember them from my "youth". Haven't seen one in YEARS! Oh, how nice that would be to have one again! Gosh, where is this place??? Mayberry? Did you slip into a time warp and go back in time? Wow! Okay, praying for your hubby and you and that sweet baby too. Love the quote at the end. So true. Have a blessed rest of your weekend. God is with you.

    1. Sammy's definitely a miracle. He still has a long road ahead, but now instead of their projected 6-month stay he may be home by Easter. Yay!

  8. What wonderful news about the little baby. I love seeing God working miracles. I'm glad to hear your Tom is out of the hospital. Praying doctors at UAB will be able to take care of any issues. Take care of yourself, because those hospital times can wear the care giver out. My sister's husband was in the hospital most of this past week and I know she's about as worn out as he is since coming home Thursday night. I didn't even know there were full service lanes any more. How fun and you deserve it. Have a good weekend.

  9. What a week you've had! Ups and downs galore! I'm glad you have the appointment to see his cardiologist, It's something not to be ignored. What a miracle cure that baby had! Miracles do still happen everyday! I don't have a chick fillet near by to go to but do enjoy their chicken and biscuit sandwiches. Delicious! Will be praying for Tom and will be waiting to see what the doctor has to say. Take good care ! Love, ma

  10. Yes, indeed, Myra, we have both had more than our full of heart related problems over this past week! So glad that Tom could come back home and that you've got a follow-up appointment scheduled sooner than later. Danny's is on the 9th of this month.
And what a miracle baby!!! I will be sure to keep Samuel in my prayers, as I do Tom and you.
    Blessings!
    And what a miracle baby!

  11. You do spicy I don't do spicy. I do like Chick Fil A.

I am so glad that little one had a miracle.

My mom had the surgery for the aortic stenosis. Praying the doctors at the hospital will take good care of him. It is a great hospital.

I didn't know there was a full service gas station left in this world. Cool!

  12. Oh my, I'm glad he was able to go home. The ER is never fun. I went 5 times last year. Glad that they did admit him. Keeping Tom in my prayers. That is wonderful news on Samuel. Heck, I didn't even know that a gas station had that kind of service anymore. Haven't seen that here in CA. That's a great quote.

    1. 5 times! Wow! I gotta say, they have some of the kindest nurses and techs; it takes a special sort of person to work ER.

  13. Scary stuff for you both! I'm glad Tom is home and that you have a plan. Do please keep us posted and know that prayers are being lifted. Praise God for the miracles experienced with your little Samuel!! Praise God. WOW... a full-service gas station?! I remember pulling in and having one or two guys show up to put the gasoline in, wash the windows and headlights, and even check the oil. Good ol' days, indeed. Hugs, Myra!!

  17. Wow, what a medical saga you have been on. Glad they could help your Hubby and continued prayers for him and especially for you. I'm glad you have a church "body" that is loving and concerned for all of you. PTL for the miracle of that sweet baby. I love when God confounds the doctors.
I haven't seen or been in a full service gas station in probably 30 years. How nice to be pampered.
