Friday Letters

Dear Dr. A

Thank you for double-checking!

... and speaking to us in a friendly, informative manner we 'regular folks' can understand.
Tom's stenosis isn't as severe as the local hospitalist made it sound.

You didn't point a finger at those folks -- but strongly suggested, the next time we think we have a cardiac concern we call on you and your team.

See you next year!

Dear (formerly) Favorite Restaurant

Maybe it's a little bit me, a little bit you.

Because the last few visits have been underwhelming, it's time I take off my rose-colored glasses.
I mean, who serves french onion with American cheese????

I think this is the first time we've left without bringing home a slice of cheesecake.

Dear Chief Meteorologist

More rain this weekend?
The mud pit, formerly known as my back yard, will be happy to hear this news.

Dear HP Tech Support

At first, I questioned Tom's decision to pay xxx each month for 24/7 assistance.
But no, on those occasions we've called, you've been right there ... patient and informative, too.

Thank you, Ernesto, for not laughing out loud when we couldn't find our desktop's serial number.  We're old!

Our connection was so slow, you talked me through allowing you access via my cell phone.

Admitted technophobes, you showed us how to check our electronic devices -- and what to expect.
I'd never heard of FAST.COM -- but like a blood pressure cuff, it reads our internet connection speed in a matter of seconds.

Ours was only showing 50-some KBS, when it should read 5MG (minimum).
We're paying more for a better monthly plan -- but guess who's going to research a new provider?

Dear Citizens of Blogland

Does anyone have an opinion about Starlink?
Weather conditions aside, what do you recommend?
(p + ty)
🤗

Hugs, Myra

  1. Good letters! I've written many of those but in my head through the years. We now have lightning fast fiber-to-the-curb internet way out here in the Georgia swampland boonies. [extended pinky] lol Love having it. Do change providers if possible. Hope y'all have fiber available or at least soon. It's wonderful. Haven't used Starlink. Don't know anyone that has or I'd share the info. God bless to you and yours. xx

  2. I'm so glad to hear that Tom is well. Still praying for you both.

I was told by my techie that when the Internet is slow it is perhaps because the armchair leg is pressing on one of the cables and holding the information coming through the bottle neck. As soon as I moved the armchair a lot of information rushed through all at once and I received e-mails that were sent six months ago. Sadly, because of such lateness, I missed two birthday parties and a wedding. I phoned them to apologise and they don't believe my "excuse".

    God bless, Mevely.

    1. That sounds about as plausible as anything else I've heard!

  3. I'd say you have much to be thankful for this week. For Tom's health and a helpful technician. Sorry, I don't know what mine is but when it's working, It does the job for me. I've just had too many days it didn't work. Sorry the service you got at the restaurant was so bad you had to leave before getting dessert. I've only had good service lately. Hoping all stays well for you there. Love, ma

  4. I loved your letters today, Myra, and am so relieved about the one concerning Tom's diagnosis. Hoping to hear positive news from Danny's post-op check today.
It's a minor miracle that someone in the tech field actually took the time to help you walk through your issues. Hang on to that one!
    Blessings!

    1. I know, right? Most of the techies I've dealt with in the past are condescending or downright rude.

  5. Wow, awesome letters, mine are usually only in my head.
I am so thrilled when I get someone who speaks without a very heavy accent and is willing to help me and doesn't make me feel like I'm 3 years old.
So glad your Hubby is doing well. Not familiar with Starlink. Hope someone (probably Sandra of MadSnapper will come to your rescue) HaHa

  6. Good news for Tom. You actually have a doctor who ca talk in a friendly, informative manner?? Good Gawd - - send him to me.

I've never heard of Starlink. I know nothing about Internet connections, except that they talked me into a fiber optic connection a few years ago. It's supposed to be fast and "trouble free", but I have more trouble with it than my old copper wire connection.
    A pox on computer technology.

    1. How far are you from Birmingham, Jon? Seriously. If you've not already read Dr. A's bio (link above), check him out. It might be worth your drive.

    2. Unfortunately, I'm too far away. In my dire physical condition I'd never make it. I'm dreading my upcoming appointments in Cookeville....

  7. The letters were such a refreshing uptake on our standard blog posts. I enjoyed reading them so much. Hope you'll do more sometime soon.

  8. Your letters always make me want to hire you to write my letters for me! You are succinct and to the point...(is that the same thing?) So glad Tom's appt. went so well and that the Dr. was informative and understanding and understandable! And hooray for the tech support! Sorry I know nothing about Starlink. Never heard of it. Sorry your former favorite restaurant has fallen from grace. "just can't get good help anymore", seems to be the response we get when we question service/etc. Could be true. People just don't want to work these days and don't seem to have the good work ethic we were taught. But they sure do want to be paid high wages! Gosh, kids today make more starting up than I was paid when I retired! Something's just not right about that! And we had to really work for our money! LOL. Times have changed, and I'm glad I'm retired and don't have to deal with it anymore. I enjoyed your post as always! Happy Friday!

  9. I haven't heard of Starlink either.

I am so happy Tom does not have arterial blockage - that is one rough surgery. My mom had it.

Lastly you should see Rick and I at the grocery store trying to keep up with the young people - who I don't think are too happy with us. lol

    1. Starlink is one of Elon Musk's 'creations' -- a subsidiary of SpaceX. I think; I know little to nothing about that sort of thing.

  10. Wait! American cheese on French Onion Soup??!! There is no chef in that kitchen! Yuck! I enjoyed all of your letters, Myra. Good news about Tom's health issue, for sure! I've never heard of Starlink but will Google it as soon as I post this! Fast.com says my speed is 210 mbps. Not sure what the ps stands for. Need to Google that too! Happy weekend!

    1. Whoa ... 210?! Do you have cable, then? That's not yet available here, and I'm afraid weather/streaming is the culprit.

  11. Great letters! I especially like the kind of sarcastic ones. My sense of humor tends to be sarcastic so they speak to me. Glad things went so well with Tom's doctor...that is rare these days and means so much! Have a great weekend, Myra.

  12. My daughter and son-in-law have put Starlink up on our land. We didn't have a chance to put it on the roof yet so Andy is still using HughesNet. Starlink is a lot faster, but apparently it's for rural areas like us, where there are few people using it. They only let you subscribe if they have a slot to make sure their system isn't overloaded, so it's almost impossible to get in cities.

    I love your letters!

  13. Curious minds want to know what the former favorite restaurant is so I can avoid it.
I love your letters and so happy for your cardiologist who talks to you in "real speak".

    1. Cheesecake Factory at the Summit. In fairness to our server, after we placed our order Tom asked for a slice of American cheese (on his) -- but when our plates arrived there was no cheese on his burger.

  14. I was sent to the cardiologist because of a test result from last month. My appointment was yesterday and I have stenosis too, but mine is not bad either. He said maybe in 8-10 years I may need to do something about it, but not now. So now I need to change my diet and exercise 30 minutes every day and maybe I'll never have to have it. Time will tell. I really like my new cardiologist too. He explained things well and clearly and he had a good sense of humor too. So glad your husband's isn't bad either. Such a relief for me and I'm sure for you guys too.

  15. Glad found a doctor who listens and talks to people so they understand what he or she is saying. Zach has been dealing with incredible pain from an old shoulder inury from his hockey playing days. Goodnees for our chiro doc who suggested someone and that guy got to the heart of his problem. I can not remember the therapy it is called but something even old chicks like me might look into that is not costly . They can take your blood, run in a centrifuge and inject it into your , in my case, hip, to regenerate new growth. Itis something I may research further. It is the one thing I miss working in a teaching hospital or with doctors who research before they give anything to their patients. Anyway the doc found that Zach has a tear in his shoulder that five other doctors missed! Which is why people should remember, they are not God Almighty, they are human! Good doctors are becoming very rare in our world. Most are biting off the $$$$$$$ Big Pharma rewards them with big money to dole out pillls when those are not always the answer. I am no yogi but have found some relief for my hip in doing some simple yoga techniques and no I do not believe in their mantra. I know who has my back!
