Happy Super Sunday!
Okay, I've got to confess. Barely into the year, and there's times I struggle to stay PRESENT. Like now.
I'm blaming it on Taylor-and-Travis and their merry band of Swifties. I don't necessarily dislike her, but I couldn't name one of her songs even if you held a gun to my head. Like the NFL itself, I guess you could say I'm dispassionate.
That wasn't always the case.
Color me, mired in nostalgia.
The Dallas Cowboys weren't just "America's Team" ... once upon a time they were my team. Loud and proud. (Now I wonder, a wee bit annoying?)
Revisiting the reels, those were the best of times. If the team was playing at home, we were there -- once even getting to experience a (charter) police escort from the Fort Worth Club. My mother's voice in my ear, "I didn't know they were so loud!" Never mind the fans -- she was talking about the players!
I subscribed to the semi-monthly newsletter (pre-Internet) ... and if one of my idols came to Abilene, I was right there.

My love for the Cowboys waned many years ago, but yes.
More for tradition than anything else; of course, the commercials.
And the food. Woo-hoo!
Now, when some talking head on television exclaims about the cost of a 30-second spot ... or the 'average' price of tickets ... no-one has to tell me, I'm old. I'm the one sitting in her recliner shaking her head.
But regrets? Like the man said, "... too few to mention."
I hope Taylor, her Swifties and all the fans enjoy every stinkin' minute of the hype. Goodness knows, there's precious little of that to be found on television these days.
... and you're only young for a little while.

I'm with you girlfriend. Used to root for the Cowboys then I, too, lost interest. Never watch an NFL game now, had switched over to college football but that has changed so much. Or maybe it's me that's changed. Who knows. I care less abt. Taylor Swift than I'd care for a mashed big toe. So, no, I won't be watching the superbowl tonight.

ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Calif. I was a HUGE baseball fan. I loved the Dodgers and California Angels and never missed a game. When the Dodgers won the World Series (I forget the year??) I wanted to see the big parade in downtown L.A. but I had a strep throat.
I lost interest in baseball when they started changing the rules and adding unecessary new teams. The golden era is gone - - like so many other things.
And I don't know the first thing about baseball! I'm immeasurably sad that the golden era (for many things) is but a memory.

Deletei have never watched a football game in my life, but have heard it blasting for 39 years and for those 39 if the cowboys played, it was blasting, bob had been a cowboy fan since their beginning and no matter how bad they do he is still a cowboy. he has 3 OLD cowboy shirts, and why does he like that team? he is from PA. who knows. he says he picked them because he loved the players, his heros have always been cowboys, mine were REAL cowboys. He says do you have Roger Starback on your list of met him? he loved him and of course Troy Aikman.
ReplyDeletewhile he watched games, i read books. we just watche My All American, on netflix. if you haven't seen it Even I liked it.
Unfortunately, I was never able to meet Roger. He's probably my all-time favorite sports star -- a class act, both on and off the field.

DeleteI'm with you on Taylor Swift and all the hype. I plan to turn it on for the commercials. My friends and neighbors all seem to be for the Chiefs but I don't really care who wins. That cheesy meatloaf sounds like a winner, however!! Take a photo for us if you make it this week and share the recipe again!! :)

DeleteNor can I name a Taylor Swift song, Myra, but I'm going to cheer for the Chiefs tonight because I really like Patrick Mahomes. This is the first time Danny and I have decided to watch the Super Bowl, as we are more fans of college football. I get all jazzed up for the Dawgs!

DeleteNever been a fan of stick and ball sports. I don't get it. But now that NFL has gone "woke" (insane) I really don't get why anyone would give them 2 cents or the time of day. This nonsense is destroying our Country.

DeleteI got my fill of guacamole yesterday, I snacked on salsa and chips loaded with guacamole. I don't watch the game with a winning team in mind, I like to snack on all kinds of snack foods and watch the commercials and halftime show. I don't know any of Taylors songs either, but think it's great to see a young couple in love, no matter who they are. I heard this morning, that the chief's won the game, Congrats to them! We are cold again here. Hope you don't get any bad storms there. Love, ma

When we lived in Chicago we were Chicago Bears fans - we moved the year then won the SuperBowl. Everyone was excited.
I'm trying to recall if I was ever that crazy for an 'idol' ... maybe the Beatles (ca 1964), but nothing like this. Weird.
DeleteYes, I watched every Loooong minute of the game. We were for the 49ers but the commercials were mostly awful in my opinion..I know this makes me very old and crotchety... Sad the 49ers lost but at least the 2nd half was better than the first. Frankly I was glad when it was over. Too much hype and not enough just plain football. Especially about Taylor Swift and all the close-ups of her after every play..and that guy of hers is pretty crass .

Noelle is still a Cowboys fan. I am not a fan of Jerry Jones though. Neither am I a fan of the Walton's who own the Broncos. We were rooting for Brock Purdy. I will take a devout Christian man over all the nonsense anyday. Swift donated 400 million to the NFL. Enough said. Her music has taken a turn for things I run away from. Not a fan of any KC Chiefs since Joe Montana and Len Dawson. Rebekah watched for the Cydlesdale commercials. The cost of attending a Super Bowl is unbelievable . I did love the beautiful rendition of America the Beautiful at the Super Bowl. Post Malone is a different kind of guy but he did a beautiful job of it. Not into the NFL and their WOKEness which is so terribly sad.
