Hodgepodge Wednesday

Hello March!

Is it coming in 'like a lion' where you live?  How do you feel when it rains?

Already it's uncomfortably warm -- but at least it's dry. Temporarily.

Unless I have to be out driving, I don't really mind the rain.
Only when it's accompanied by severe weather warnings do I get a bit anxious.

What's something you'd like to do differently this week than the last?  Explain.

Are we talking the rest of this week -- or do you mean starting next Monday?
(OK, I'm going with the latter.)

A while back I saw where, on the occasion of her birthday, another blogger vowed to do something she'd never done before -- every day.  For a year.

Unfortunately, I'm not that adventurous or imaginative.

So, beginning on my upcoming birthday I'm going to do that, too -- only once a week for the next 52.

Out-loud.  On purpose.
(Please don't let me forget?!)

March 1st is National Sunkist Citrus Day.  Do you drink orange juice?  Orange, lemon, lime, tangerine, grapefruit ... what's your favorite citrus fruit?  A dish you love with a citrus fruit as one of its key ingredients.

Sorry, I can't recall the last time I drank OJ on purpose.
On the other hand, I love grapefruit.  We don't keep it around the house, on account Tom's not supposed to have it with his Rx.

I don't know if lemon sauce is considered a 'key ingredient' -- but I love that atop my salmon.

What do you consider to be your culture.  Elaborate.

I was going to go with the old acronym W.A.S.P.
.....then reading the definition, it occurred to me, I'm not a member of the upper class.
(*sigh*)

How about:  Family-oriented ... Foodie ... Right-winger ...who tries to keep Jesus at the center of all I do.
(Not necessarily in that order!)

Sum up February in 15 words or less.

Expensive

Delicious food

pre-Lenten revelry

Exciting to meet one of my folk heroes

Blessed

Have yourselves a great day!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Oh my, doing something new everyday for a year would not be easy for me as at my age I feel like I've done just about everything. My something new this week was to get a handicapped placard for my car so that I can now park in those wheelchair spots at the stores. I have to admit getting older comes with lots of changes and I'm prepared to go with the flow. I'm not fighting it, I'm trying to make the best of everyday.

I don't know how to describe myself except for the low end of middle class. I don't have a lot but I have exactly what I need. I come from the hard working middle class.

Trying to enjoy each day as it comes and enjoying what I have and not wanting more. I have a March birthday and plan to celebrate the whole month. Good luck in your endeavors. Can't wait to see what you do. Maybe you can give me an idea or two. Love, ma

    1. That's wonderful, your getting the handicapped placard! When Tom was approved they gave us 2 -- one for each vehicle, but when I'm alone I don't use it; feels like I'm cheating, you know?
Middle class is a great place to be!

  2. I have to say I always enjoy your posts. This one made me laugh, especially the cat and the last meme. ;) Very good description of your culture. I'm looking forward to hear about your adventures.

  3. It is March here, and it is still cold. Raining this morning, sunny right now, expected snow in some areas.

I like lemon curd on toast. Do you have this in the US or is it just a British thing? Also marmalade. Orange or lime marmalade ... and ginger too. Great on toast and muffins. (I'm off to the kitchen).

Doing something new and different every week. Great idea. Let us know what you decide. We may well join you. I want to do something outrageous; like wearing the wrong coloured tie not matching my shirt, or belt and braces, or pulling my trousers up right up to my chest. I already wear different coloured socks every day.

    God bless always, Mevely.

    1. I've not had lemon curd in years! Making a note to see if our grocers stock it.
That's cute about the socks. Years ago the firm where I worked had an eccentric older client who did that. He called them his 'lucky socks.'

  4. Ha ha on your last thought! I bet my mind is more confused than your confused mind! I like your answer to the culture because I could not think of one single thing. When I think of culture I think of like Hispanic or some other race and I looked up the word culture and I still don’t know what my culture is. The thought of doing something I have never done before for a whole year has me shaking in my seat and I can hardly type. Even the thought of doing something I have never done before Makes me shiver and shake. And now that I’m trying to think of something that I might try that I have never done before I can’t even think of anything so if you think of something that you’re going to do once a week and by the way ha ha only reminding you let me know what it is because it might be something I might want to try. I am a stuck in the mud routine minded never do anything different habit habit habit

    1. To be honest, I had to Google 'culture' not once, but twice. Hope I haven't bit off more than I can chew. Perhaps the "new to me" may be nothing more exciting than a different brand of toothpaste!

  5. I love that quote from Brooke Hampton!! I'm going to put it in my journal. :) Have a great rest of the week.

  6. After unprecedented snow here in California the last few days, March has come in like a lamb - but not for long.
I never really thought about my "culture." I'm just me.

  8. I enjoyed this today. So you like grapefruit juice - not me!
I guess my culture is the old gray haired group. We worry about the youngins who are taking over after us. lol another wards - OLD.
I like the cat and the seasons.
I love the parts of bits and pieces that make you - you. I feel that too.
    When is your birthday?

  9. That last meme is great, Myra!
Today is my birthday, and I know you're looking forward to yours this month. Good luck with doing something new every week of this year. I don't think that's a challenge I would want to take.
    Blessings to you!

  10. My calendar says that today is National Pig Day. No, I am not kidding. I have no intention of celebrating pigs (although I've known a few....) - - but I like ham and bacon.
As for citrus, I love it all - orange juice, lemon, lime, tangerine, grapefruit. I had a passion for blood oranges, which were abundant in Texas.

I don't like to do things differently. I'm a mundane creature of habit in my old age (not that I'm old, of course...)

Can I sum up February in fifteen words?
    Repeat "disaster" 15 times.
    I like your "random thought".

    1. Okay, you can have my share of the citrus. I think there's a definite measure of comfort in sameness.

  11. Lemon sauce - yum! Back in the days when I still ate sweets, my mother-in-law would make gingerbread (like a cake) and serve it with homemade lemon sauce. I wanted to drink the sauce and would actually put so much in my bowl that my gingerbread looked like a crouton floating in soup!

  12. What a fun idea to try something new every day/week! I don't know if I could think of that many "New" things that I'd want to do! I like your description of your culture and the little quote that you put with it.

  13. Myra, I enjoyed reading your answers. That's an interesting challenge to do something new every week. My hubby has to avoid grapefruit because of his new RX , too. That last Gif is hilarious!

  18. I love your definition of your culture. I agree wholeheartedly. Wish I could have grapefruit. It is so good for us but my allergies keep me from it and lemon. Darn!
