Ya know, sometimes you just have to make the best of a hot, sticky summer evening.
So that's what we did Thursday, for the last of Millbrook's 'Tunes on the Green.' Those of you in my FB tribe already saw the pictures I took .... I'm especially taken with the joy on this lady's face.
Sweating to the oldies!
..... And yes, my pulled pork nachos tasted as good as they look!
Unfortunately, Friday morning I woke up with a sore throat, feeling achy all over. I even whipped out one of our complimentary Covid test kits ..... just in case. Of course, it was negative, but I HATE how this thing has toyed with my 'what if's' these last two years.
Besides (me) acting like a couch vegetable, we did watch a movie, Father Stu. Did I think it was great? Not exactly -- but aside from the poor audio, really enjoyable.
I don't know what we're going to do about it, but Tom's and my eating patterns have become totally out of whack.
On one hand, I'm happy his appetite's returning ... on the other, am I willing to give up my routine?
For years, I enjoy the biggest meal of my day around 10-11am. He's not hungry, so most days I eat alone at the breakfast bar.
Anyway!
About 2:30 Saturday afternoon he made himself a big juicy cheeseburger and chocolate milkshake. Happy days.
Wouldn't you know, not an hour later Tom's good buddy called. Would we like to join he and his wife at the Front Porch (Grille) at 5 for supper?
Well, good Camaraderie trumps Appetite any day. Right?
The universe had other plans. First it sounded like a helicopter was landing in our back yard ... then a call back from Leon. Only 2 miles down the road a transformer blew, paralyzing The Front Porch and surrounding supermarket/fast food establishments.
So happy we weren't out in the middle of that!
So yesterday after church I'd planned to swing by Wal Mart to pick up my online order. Do y'all ever do that?
Thanks to Tom's daughter introducing me to that sit-in-your-car, contact-less, complimentary feature, I'm a fan!
Except! This was Sunday.
How quickly I'd forgotten -- I vowed that once retired, I'd never shop on weekends.
We had to park in Spot #31. And wait. (For the record, my dear husband is NOT a good waiter.)
After 10 minutes (felt like an hour), I received a text update saying my order had been delivered at 1:39pm ... my card charged ... and thank you for shopping with us. Huh?!?!
Ready for bear, I went flying out of the car. Only to learn they were "really backed up" and the computers were "acting crazy." Poor kid looked like he'd rather be anywhere else.
Long story short, our bags were brought out a few minutes later.
I wouldn't count on Tom, but I'll be back!
On that note, I'd better stop yakking your ear off and get ready for Bible study. Like breaking bread with Leon and Linda, it's more about the camaraderie than content.
I'm hanging in there ... and hope y'all do the same!
Hugs, Myra

Sounds like a lot of good food has been coming your way! I say you just have to enjoy it while you can ! Hope you are feeling better and yes, we all do tend to think of covid as the culprit. Now with the new strain, more and more people are being infected. So far, so good here! Enjoy a good time at Bible study ! And have a great week ahead! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ma. Yes, I'm feeling much better. Gotta put the brakes on all this eating, however!
DeleteI love it when you ramble because that is what I do to.
ReplyDelete😁
DeleteI love it when you ramble, your remind me of ME. glad you found out about the power failure before you went out. I just looked up and see the first line that disapeared is posted. OMG.. i am hating blogger the past 5 days, only half comments on my blogs and having to hunt through reader list to find people. there I am rambling. on your blog.
ReplyDeleteI seriously suspect Blogger's been eating the loco weed. It's sure trying what little patience I have left.
DeleteYou know, if you pick up one gem from each Bible study, that would be a blessing, right? So who knows? I haven't tried pick up ordering from Wal-Mart or the like. I would favor it but hubby likes to peruse the aisles and such and that is why he grocery shops on Friday while I'm at work and I have sworn I will NEVER go grocery shopping with him again except for a few items because of an incident we had a few months back when I did go with him for a weekly outing. Enough said :) I'm glad you eventually got your order! Those nachos do look so delicious! It is a shame that the season is finishing up and there is still the month of August ahead. Is it because schools will be starting? Hope you feel better soon! So many other things going around but we automatically think Covid :) It is good that Tom is eating, as you know. I bet you'll mesh together eating schedules again . You can always sit with each other and sip a glass of lemon water or the like (I would suggest wine or something stronger but that might be frowned on before noon :)
ReplyDeletebetty
LOL, I like the way you think! (It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?) What's with our men and grocery shopping? By the time we've paid and are out of the store, I'm spitting nails. Now that Tom's dependent on those motorized carts it's even more time consuming and he loves to go this way and that ... LOOKING. Aaargh!
DeleteThose nacho's look great. Sorry you didn't feel well but glad you didn't have covid. We enjoyed Father Stu but it certainly wasn't the best movie we've ever seen. My husband isn't one to wait either. I was getting home deliveries that last 2 years.
ReplyDeleteI really had higher expectations about the movie; that's generally my undoing.
DeleteI know what you mean when life drags on and one (bad) thing tends to follow another.
ReplyDeleteIt's what we call in the UK being in nightwatchman state.
Sit down with a coffee and let me explain:
In the sport of cricket, (where a game can last several days), a nightwatchman is a lower-order batsman who comes in to bat higher up the order than usual near the end of the day's play.
The nightwatchman's job is to maintain most of the strike until the close of play (remaining in overnight after the end of the day's play, hence the name). This means, do nothing brave or daring that would have you caught by the other team and out of the game.
By playing it safe until close of play for that day the nightwatchman is protecting other, more capable batsmen from being out cheaply in what may be a period of tiredness or in poor light at the end of the day. He also opens the batting the following morning, and then again he allows the better batsmen have not yet ‘got their eye in', or when the early-morning conditions may favour the bowlers, to get accustomed to the conditions of the game.
So basically, being in a nightwatchman period of our life means take it easy until conditions improve and all will be normal again. I often feel like that, especially when the world around me tends to change almost on an hourly basis. It is good to have a positive view about it all though. Praying for y'all.
God bless.
Wow. What an in-depth, thoughtful response. I'd never heard the term but appreciate knowing -- and how it applies to our everyday lives. Thank you, Victor!
DeleteYes, indeed, that is a face full of joy in your first photo!! My eating habits... good golly. I generally eat two meals a day but I can't stop eating a bedtime "snack" and I am sure that is my downfall. I need a pill that will suck out fat and the ads on FB keep calling to me. It just ain't that easy and I know it. I agree that we need to work on a plan B!! xo
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you, Terri! I get so much joy from good food ... I should be embarrassed. (But I'm not!)
DeleteEnjoyed ALL of the visit, but I had to smile when I read this :This was Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHow quickly I'd forgotten -- I vowed that once retired, I'd never shop on weekends.
YEP I kick myself when I FORGET and yes it does make a difference. LOL Eating habits and schedules are really hard to balance... but we keep trying...
Anyway love you guys.. Sherry & jack I think I am getting tired. LOL
Yes! When I was working full time and had but a few minutes on my lunch hour to shop, I hated having to share space with retirees. Same thing at day's end when my feet hurt and all I wanted to do was go home.
DeleteMy sister used to say she was going to run for governor and her platform was going to ban anyone without employment from doing any business on Saturday's or from 11-1:45 during the work week. Now that she has retired she breaks her own platform rules and of course I call her on it every time.
ReplyDeleteLOL ... she'd have my vote!
DeleteWe use the Walmart online orders sometimes and we also do the same for Kroger. Love them both. Not perfect, but pretty darn good.
ReplyDeleteI miss the Kroger stores!
DeleteStrangely enough, I had a sore throat last week - which is odd because I haven't had a cold or sore throat in many years. I'm positive it was caused by sinus problems.
ReplyDeleteI was never a big fan of pulled pork, but those nachos admittedly look good.
Ironically, I always eat my main meal around the same time you do. I FORCE myself to do the morning chores as soon as I get up, then I cook a meal.
I need to do that, too. Usually, by the time I've eaten my 'get up and go' has disappeared. Hope your throat's better!
DeleteI used to do the Walmart pick up but I always have to wait longer than it would take me to go in and get it myself and I always have something missing.
ReplyDeleteI do delivery now if I have to.
I enjoyed my visit. I am first time visitor. :)
That's what my husband's all the time saying!
DeleteGetting a sore throat now is scary. I'm glad yours wasn't Covid. 😊
ReplyDeleteMe, too!
DeleteSounds like a pretty nice weekend. . my hubby and I are on different eating schedules so i completely understand your dilema. We did the Walmart pickup during the height of the pandemic , but have slacked off in recent months. With the wait you had, good hing you did not order any ice cream.Sorry to hear about the sore throat. Take Elderberry. It rids me of the problem by end of day.
ReplyDeleteHa, good point! Trouble is, Tom's a 'touchy-feely' shopper -- he loves perusing the aisles, while I stand there tapping my foot. Thanks for the Elderberry tip; I'd never heard of that.
DeleteLife is so annoying these days all the mishaps, mixups, you name, we have experienced it! Oh that shingles shot nope nada no thank you. After a near death experience with the pneumococcal pneumonia first series, I never went back. Avery's Pulmonology doc said they gave me the wrong dosing. It sure won't happen twice. NOPE!
