Thanks-living and 50 Shades

G'evening friends!

Ya, another dreary, rainy day in Coosada, but this made me LOL.

This morning I rose early and began gathering ingredients for one of our favorite New Mexico slow cooker stews.   (Aaaah, the aroma!)  All day we've taken turns wandering into the kitchen, spoons in hand.

Tonight?   I'm thankful for much ...

Would you just look at the early anniversary surprise which just arrived from my son and DIL?

I've never had steak knives this nice!

Alexa can sometimes be a real 'PINTA', but I'm sure thankful for its immediate gratification.

As often happens, I'll read a blog title or read a phrase that triggers a memory ... thank you, Victor!  Thank you, Jack!
I can walk in the other room and ask Alexa to play me Charlie Pride's greatest hits (for example).
For less than $17 a month 'she' provides an unlimited jukebox.  Simple pleasures.

Only 17 days 'til three of Toms' hearing aids are due back from the VA!

Honestly?  Things have been more than a little frustrating.  He constantly has to remind me, "I've only one ear."
In turn, I've taken to calling him 'Vincent.'  (... he didn't even get it.)

* * *

'Feeling super thankful for modern diagnostics!

Hopefully tomorrow morning's MRI and CAT scans will finally provide answers to what's going on with Tom's back.
(Prayers appreciated!)

Last, but certainly not least ...
I'm so thankful for your friendship!

Unplanned, I found myself saying at Bible study yesterday morning,
"I think there are 50 shades of friendship."

Like peeling layers of an onion.
Sure, I've still got a room whose door reads 'Keep Out!'  Maybe that's not unusual.
I may never discover a Ruth to my Naomi, but that's okay, too.

I don't expect an answer but want to leave y'all with an interesting poser ... one of yesterday's talking points.
"Who do you trust completely?  Completely, without reservation?"

G'night now!
Hugs, Myra

  1. I spewed coke when I read you were calling your husband Vincent!

  2. LOL with referring to Tom as Vincent :) I definitely got it! Seriously though, I hope the hearing aids come in right on time if not sooner if that is possible! How frustrating for the two of you! This is when I think knowing sign language would come in handy! I think there are many shades of friendship indeed. Good observation on your part, Myra! I would like to say I trust Jesus completely but then I have my moments. I am not sure how many other people I trust, certainly no one in politics :) Yummy with that stew! Perfect for the day's weather, right?

    1. Oh, I hope so, too! The 'lone survivor' (aid) is acting out this morning, too.
      Jesus is a perfect choice!

  3. That stew sounds like a perfect addition to the day. Heaps of prayers Tom's back. ❤️

  4. As always, praying for Tom and you.

Did you know that Vincent could not see properly? Since cutting his ear his glasses kept falling off.

Trusting can be such a delicate thing, because when we trust someone we give of ourselves and it makes us very vulnerable. Christ said "Trust in God, and trust in Me" (John 14:1) yet very few truly trust Him that much. We are always suspicious in nature. Fearful to be let down.

    God bless always.

    1. So true. No-one enjoys feeling vulnerable. Your prayers are felt and so appreciated!

  5. I am pretty sure my mom and dad were the only people in the world I completely trusted. have a safe trip today and hope they find out what can be done about the back. 3 hearing aids? I wish bob could have had 3, he only has one ear, just like your Vincent, because one has quit working and it squeals all day and makes me crazy. I have to say.every.word.like.this. for him to understand me. then he wants to know why I am yelling and that is because I am so frustrated to repeart 3 or 4 times what i said. he refuses to go for a test

    1. I hate that squeal! Judging from all the people at (VA) audiology, these gadgets are sure temperamental.

  6. The smells coming from your kitchen with the stew cooking had to have been wonderful. I love using the slow cooker to make stews and soups. Prayers for both the hearing aides and the tests that you'll have good results there. I love thinking about friendships being 50 shades. There are truly so many different friends. Glad you are a friend of mine. Love, ma

  7. Just stopped and prayed for your hubby. Love that steak knife. Hubby just got us some new ones this summer that I really like too. I completely trust my husband and my sister. I may not agree with every thing they do or say, but I completely trust them.

    1. You make a good point! It's not necessary to agree with our loved ones in order to trust them.

  10. Vincent . . . Now, that's just too funny, Myra! Yes, I will certainly keep Tom and you in prayer. Keep u updated, my friend!
Great steak knives, too. Isn't amazing how just the simplest items can bring us such joy?
    Blessings!

  11. Rainy days are a perfect time to use the slow cooker. I'm wondering which state - Alabama or Tennessee - would win the Noah's Ark Award for having the most rain??

Those are serious steak knives - - a beautiful set (now I'm drooling for a nice juicy steak).
Speaking of knives, I immediately "got" the Vincent remark. I hope everything goes well for Tom.

Alexa has many positive aspects, but having her invade my home would seem to compromise my privacy and remind me of the KGB. I've heard some spooky things about Alexa on YouTube. Hopefully they're only urban legends.

    1. I wouldn't be surprised about Alexa's 'rep.' Until I started unplugging her, she'd randomly start joining in our conversations from the next room. Too, if we ask her if she talks to the C.I.A. she turns herself off!

  12. I must be out of the loop, I don't get the "Vincent" reference at all. Sorry to be so dense. I don't get out much. LOL. I will be praying for Tom's tests, results, etc., etc. Those steak knives look beautiful. Now to be able to afford steak again! LOL. I love that picture at the end. At this point in my life I'm not sure who would fit in that picture with me...I think perhaps some of you blogging friends would for sure, perhaps even better than some of the people in real life here. As far as the trust question...I'd probably have to say only Jesus. He's only ONE who will never ever let us down. Human beings are just too prone to being human, myself included. Have a blessed and wonderful day.

  14. You and Tom are both in my daily prayers. Please keep us posted when you get the results!! Those weighted steak knives look pretty amazing! I get the Vincent reference! Cute! Hope the hearing aids show up soon!! I trust Jesus. Joe was a close second. I am blessed with beautiful friendships, and I count you in that group!! xo

    1. I sure will! Here 24 hours later and no call from the doc, so I'm hoping that's a good sign. You are a blessing to me, as well!

  15. That's true about the dog....LOL! That's cute about tasting the stew during the day. Wow, those steak knives are beautiful. Mark has one dead ear that they can't do anything for. Thankfully his other ear is fine but he doesn't always hear me when you're on the wrong side of him. Praying for Tom's back. Have a nice weekend.

  16. Avery nearly fell off the bed when I told him Tom a/k/a Vincent! You are a real hoot. I am catching up slowly. We need more rain. We have had sprinkles. Avery's cousin in Utah had two feet of mud in their garage after a torrential rain and all that must ran into their garage. Thankful for good neighbors who pitched in to help clean the mess. Always praying for you both. Life is hard but we can pray and do. Happy Anniversary. Nice steak knives. My son-in-law Zach has this special knife he uses for the many dishes he creates for us. It stays in it/s pretty case and box. I rinse it off and leave it for him to clean as it is his "baby". heeheehee
