Sunday Stealing
Want to join Bev and friends? Just push here!
First job?
Receptionist at an Abilene, Texas (physical therapy) rehab facility. We used to sneak in one of the treatment rooms where they kept warm parafin/wax and dip our hands in the vat. Boy, the boss was mad!
First favorite politician?
Nope, not going there!
First record/CD?
When my parents bought one of these, the salesman told them I could pick out any LP I wanted.
Frankie Valli + Four Seasons for the win!
First sport played?
Does horseback riding count? No-one's ever accused me of being coordinated!
First concert?
BJ Thomas. This was before he got off drugs and turned his life around. Anyway, he was so high he couldn't remember the words to "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" ... nearly collapsed and had to be helped off stage. End of show.
First foreign country visited?
Canada
First favorite TV show?
Fury, Rin-Tin-Tin, Lassie
First favorite actor?
Clint Eastwood (Rowdy Yates, Gunsmoke)
First favorite actress?
Hayley Mills (Parent Trap)
First boyfriend?
Gordon. He played upright bass in the high school orchestra; I thought he looked just like a young Montgomery Clift!
First encounter with a famous person?
I approached Dale Robertson at the NM State Fair, hoping to get an interview for the school paper. He told me in no uncertain terms to get lost.
First house owned?
First film seen?
Bambi. Like it was yesterday (v. 1957), I remember we were given plastic deer costumes and marched in a single line to and from the movie theater.
First favorite radio station?
KOMA Oklahoma City. Being an AM station, we in northern New Mexico could only hear it after dark.
First book I remember reading?
The Black Stallion
Gotta go now! I'll be back to visit after church.
Hugs, Myra

LOL about the Bambi movie and the costumes. I'm still trying to figure that one out (like why they would have done that). Bonus points if you have a picture of it, lol. That would be fun to see! This is a cute one with the list of firsts. It is amazing how you can tour houses online, isn't it? I did that for one of the houses we lived in when we were growing up in the San Diego area. They had remodeled it a lot so it was hard to figure out rooms but it was still fun to go and see it without actually touring inside it in person. Hope it was a great church service!

Thanks, Betty! Sorry, no photos, no bonus points. The little fawn costumes were cheap plastic that went on over our heads; probably a promotion by the film company. I just remember marching and feeling pretty alllll right (cool). HA!
DeleteHey! The first book I remember reading was also "The Black Stallion."
ReplyDeleteThat's neat!
DeleteI see you follow Jon (Lone Wolf). Small world. I've read his blog since he and I were both on AOL blogs.
ReplyDeleteSmall world, indeed! I love Jon's writings.
DeleteOur family got our first records the same way. Our parents bought a stereo console. It was my brother who chose the freebies.
ReplyDeleteHow about that! And here, I thought we were being given special treatment ... jk, lol.
DeleteI think the first book I remember reading all on my own was Charlotte's Web. I read it repeatedly!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Myra!
I never read that. Or Winnie the Pooh. Maybe those are something to put on a bucket list?
DeleteDefinitely!!! They are classic children's books that are not just for children.
DeleteVery interesting and lovely answers. I remember Rin Tin Tin and Lassie. You're very brave to go horse riding. I'm afraid they'll run away with me on them. Like a motorbike did once. It just suddenly sped off without me realising it. The top of my body was still where I was standing and the bottom half miles away.
ReplyDeleteI just love your first house. Long drive and wonderful lawn. $220k - wow.
God bless, Mevely.
I truly love horses, but was never fortunate to have one of my own. Motorcycles scare me; would you believe I've never ridden on one?
DeleteI loved those same TV shows too as a child, but my favorite was I Love Lucy. She was a redhead and so was I, so I thought we must be related. LOL. That's neat that you can google your old house and see inside. I love doing that. Amazing the deals we could get in the 70's, but for us at that time even the $100. down was challenging! But it looks like it was a very nice house. I am scratching my head about the first book I remember reading. I honestly can't remember. One book I loved and still have is Robert Louis Stevenson's "A Child's Garden of Verses". It will always be a favorite of mine. I loved Rowdy Yates too. He was cool. My first real job was as an accounting clerk in an Insurance Company. A lot of mundane work before computers, using a "comptograph machine." Not sure now even what it did except add up numbers and stuff. LOL. But it kept us alive while hubby finished his last year of college. I enjoyed your answers. I should have done this one, but I never get around to it until Monday or Tuesday usually, so why bother? It's old news by then. LOL. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteThat book is/was a classic! Why can I not picture a comptograph machine? I wonder, was that something specific to the insurance industry?
DeleteHi, Myra! I commented here earlier today, but when I checked back, the comment didn't show up. What's up with that??? Anyway, I enjoyed your answers; maybe my other comment will appear "out of the blue."
ReplyDeleteThank you for checking back! I went looking on my dashboard and discovered Blogger had marked it 'spam.' Idiots!
DeleteI don't remember much about my childhood, most of these first i don't remember a first. the book I loved the most and read the most was Tarzan and the City of Gold, I was about 10 I think.
ReplyDeleteI love Frankie Vallie and do remember them and my cousin next door, theone that we lived in their chicken coop, had this exact stero and every record she wanted and so did her sister. Jackie loved Julius Larosa, Andrea Johnny Mathis. We used to go to the Saturday Matinee but I don't remember them. the first TV show was in 1957 and it was Highway Patrol. Dragnet also. I will have to see if there are photos of my first house. that fould be cool. bought in 1969. FHA 200 down and payments 109.00 and we thought we could not afford those payments.I remember the first boy I loved that did not know I existed. Johnny Poppell.. we were 8 years old.
My older-and-much-more-sophisticated cousin introduced me to Johnny Mathis --and the rest is history. (*swoon*) Dragnet was a cool show.
DeleteWe loved this, Sherry came by first and reported. Her first job was baby sitting, I think mine was cutting grass with a real PUSH mower..
ReplyDeleteIs hop/scotch a sport? LOL
Okay I had to laugh, I believe my first concert if I ever was at one was BJ Thomas & Billy Jo at the middle of the Raindrops and Boondocks tour by accident at a County Fair Backwoods NY. Where as they sang a young girl tapped Sherry on the shoulder and asked, "Are they supposed to be somebody?"
They sang their hearts out and we thoroughly enjoyed it. we were in our mid 70s. ;-)
Thanks so much for this entry.... Love you girl..
Thank you! That's a funny story about the County Fair. In all honesty, however, I'm that way about most of today's popular singers. Meant to say, I love that image of Dean Martin on your blog. Now HE was a SOMEBODY.
DeleteAnother Black Stallion reader. I didn't list it but I remember reading the books.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff!
DeleteLoved anything horse-related, and read the Black Stallion many times.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. I much preferred plastic horses to playing with dolls.
DeleteGood golly to your BJ Thomas concert! I had no idea he was a druggie. Glad he got sober. I enjoyed your answers, Myra! Have a good week ahead!! xo
ReplyDeleteBeing enormously NAIVE, i didn't even realize what was going on at first. Felt bad for him when several people started booing and calling him names.
DeleteI enjoyed your answers too. ❤️
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteWhat a great list of firsts you had. I never visited any other country but Canada and loved it. We had a cabin there with friends and they all went fishing. Hope you have a great week ahead. Happy Monday ! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear lady,! Happy new week!
ReplyDeletejust FYI, Clint Eastwood was Rowdy Yates on Rawhide, not Gunsmoke. I know this because I am old.
ReplyDeleteOf course... my bad. Thanks, Roger!
