Before today I never heard of a 'Clerihew.'
("If you do, you're going to have to clean it up"!)
According to the National Day Calendar:
"the Clerihew is defined by a set of rules. It must contain four lines, rhyming couplets of AA/BB, a person's name in the first line, say something about that person and it should be humorous. It is meant to be a funny poem." An example:

Cried in her rum
Maybe it's just me. But this example didn't prompt me to crack a smile. Perhaps it's a case of, 'you had to be there'?

I learned something new the other day.
My BF was relaying a story of a mutual friend's job-hunting experience - which had included a typing test.
D's follow-up phone interview began like this:
"Well, I can tell you're old."
(Whaaaa? Yes, really.)
Turns out, the interviewer immediately noticed that D had put two spaces between her sentences … the way we were taught in high school. Somewhere along the way, we missed the memo (that) that's become a no-no.
Aug 12, 2014 - Unless you are typing on an actual typewriter, you no longer have to put two spaces after a period. Or a question mark. Or an exclamation point. The rule applies to all end punctuation.
(BTW, our friend was offered the job but turned it down.)
Other than that!
The bottom of my throat began to feel sand-papery a few days ago. By yesterday it had segued to a full-fledged Summer cold, and most of today I spent horizontal.
On a lighter note!
I've learned there's nothing anyone can do about the weather. But, too, there's humor to be found in almost every situation. For instance, this 'recipe' shared on Facebook by our local Chief Meteorologist:
AN ALABAMA SUMMER DAY
Serves 4.9 million

love that recipe. fits here to but our summer is longer.. i took typing 1 and 2 in 1961 and 1962 and had totally forgotten the spaces thing. all the typing i have done since then is the kind where you fill out spaces, as in fill in the blanks. sorry you are feeling bad,

ReplyDeleteRegarding punctuations ... I normally put a number of punctuations in the margin of the paper. Commas, semi-colons, colons, exclamation and question marks ... that sort of thing. I write what I need to write and then put these punctuations from the margin into my text.
By the way, I have these spare which you can use : % " !! ??? , ...

I learned to type when I was fourteen - which was around the time Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. I miss my vintage Royal and don't give flying fig how many spaces I put after a period.

DeleteThat's the first I heard about the 1 space after periods, etc. In my company, we still have the 2 spaces unless a specific account just wants 1 space, which is few and far between. I think it looks to bunched up to leave only 1 space.

Cute with the recipe for your guys' weather. Seems like they are accurate in it though if the humidity is high! We are "finally" getting temps over 110 for the next few days. Its been so "mild" here compared to the last 3 summers. Not complaining though!

DeleteOh the modern world if that is what it can be called. I am just at a point, I do not care any longer what the world says is right or important or wrong! Generations are being raised up that can no longer spell, write without printing or say or do anything without causing a snowflake to melt away. Now that has been said so on to fun! Your poem was quite clever. Your weather is different than here but occasionally after a short period of rain, we feel the humidity. That pea soup should do the trick! Hee Hee Hee! Quite clever for a weather person. It is hard to break habits that for ages has been correct. Hoping you and Tom are both getting along well. You get some rest and stay hydrated. summer colds are simply the pits. HUGS
