I'm grateful!
That my granddaughter and her hubby are OK. On the way home from Josh's shoulder surgery, another car pulled out right in front of them. Their truck was totaled, but aside from a sprained wrist, bruises and burns, we're a mighty blessed family.
Sarah's Facebook reads, "Seat belts save lives and airbag burns hurt but we will be OK. Don't pull out in front of other cars. Oh yeah, happy 10 months of marriage, Josh." (*smile*)
So yesterday, I was struggling to replace my car's cover when I heard an unmistakable "chirp, chirp" from a nearby police cruiser. Watching the somber processional that followed, I noticed several dozen dirt bikes among the mourners. Only a week ago, two young men were enjoying fireworks on a friend's boat, when they were struck by another out-of-control craft. Recalling the rescue-turned-recovery efforts and loved ones' anguish, there was no way I could stop my tears as I stood there at attention.
You're right, Sarah. Thank God.

It's taken every bit of willpower we can muster not to go visit!

The other day a cruiser pulled in the drive, looking for our home's prior owner. Seems a relative of the family couldn't get a hold of them, so they called the police!
Aside from scratching my head ... I'm a bit sad, imagining the back story. Unless someone's totally computer illiterate, there's so much public info available online. Forget WhitePages.com, Zabasearch usually gives up ages, relatives, etc. free for nothing. Ancestry.com is practically an encyclopedia of public records.
Jus' saying, it's not easy to remain anonymous. Like my daddy used to say, "Keep your wits about you."
Laughing at myself
Unlike my late mother who harbored an irrational fear of escalators -- or my BF's phobia about French fries -- I consider my fear of flying or public speaking, reasonable.
All's I can say, I'm super glad Tom was behind the wheel when we took my Camry to the new car wash. Mighty freaked when the car began moving along all by itself while we sat blinded by cascades of suds and enormous brushes.

Good to remember if I'm ever tempted to drive during a tropical storm.

DeleteThank God your granddaughter and her husband were wearing seat belts....and had airbags that worked. The accident is horrible, but could have been worse.

Long ago, in California, my Mom and I were almost killed in a very serious auto accident (we were hit by an Oriental woman who couldn't speak English).
When my father came to the hospital ER, his VERY first words to me were:
"How's the car?"
I LOVE that adorable litter of puppies!!! But I feel sorry for Mama. She will have her hands (or paws) full.
Haven't been to a car wash in years.
I simply wait for it to rain.
Believe it or not, my former "Mr. Wrong" said those exact (first) words when I called to say I'd been in an accident.

ReplyDeleteLove the Doodles! A family on my bus route a couple of years ago had a Doodle litter of 12. I wanted one so much, but they were asking far too much for them...but gosh, they were cute!

I don't know what Jessica is asking, but I've seen adverts for as much as $1,895. Sad, when you think of all the sweet rescues waiting for their forever homes.

DeleteOUCH about the GDaughter accident, Glad the injuries were no worse, but still bad and a ruined day. A totaled vehicle sounds OK for an ins dude, but it always seems to go into the owner's pocket to come up with a complete substitute.

DeleteOh well with your granddaughter and her husband! Cars as you know can be replaced, lives can't! Did it do anything to mess up his surgery? Even when one is careful, some "idiot" does something stupid that can mess up things big time!

Life is so precious; we need to treasure it as such and be grateful for every day that we have!
I have heard of police doing welfare checks on people that haven't been heard from in a bit, but you guys have been in that house for a bit; sounds odd that someone months later would be checking up on something. That would have given be a start to see a police car coming into the driveway!

Josh's doctor wants to do an MRI, but has to wait for the swelling to subside. I, too, don't have it in me anymore to deal with training a puppy.

DeleteThanks for seatbelts and airbags and that Sarah and hubby are okay! I'm a stickler for seatbelts, even in taxis. I have NY friends who think it's not needed in a slow taxi, but I would never want to find out if that's true. Love the little doodles!

ReplyDeleteI am glad your grad girl and hubby are ok. It is an awful mess out there today. Driving under the influence of everything. It is scary. Here it's the marijuana along with alcohol and just plain stupidity. Grateful to know they are safe. My SIL who turns 69 tomorrow is still recuperating from that near fatal DUI accident over one year ago. The guy fled the country, S H O C K E R !!! He nearly killed 6 people and skips over the border like a prince. Tough luck, basically what the DA's office said. Crazy about the people who lived where you do previously. My house was home to 27 people from Mexico plus two bachelors in the shed (windowless) and a phamily of 10 in the garage. They rented this house and the owner evicted them and redid the place. My neighbors are fdull of info. LOL. Truepeople.com has all our info unless you tell them to remove it. someone told me when you do the DNA testing on ancestry.com it is just another way for the govt. to control us. I just keep taking my chances with GOD.
