Is there a National Park near where you live?
Yes. Tom and I visited the Tuskegee Airman National Historic Site last month.
How many National Parks and which ones have you visited? Is there one you would really like to visit?
Well, the first site I consulted said there are 61; another, 419! Some are National Historic Sites; others National Monuments. I imagine the designation plays a big role in their funding?
Living in New Mexico and Arizona, of course I'm familiar with Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands and the Grand Canyon.
The Great Smoky Mountains are on my bucket list.
Yes, I owe a heap of gratitude to our President, our armed forces, police and first responders.
I don't know if I'd use the term 'protector', but I think Tom and I are guardians of each others' safety, feelings, etc.
Have you ever had an up-close-and-personal experience with a wild animal that you can tell us about?
One of my favorite memories of working at WTSP-TV was practically running into a tiger! (I opened a door to the stairwell and there sat 'Hobbes' on a leash!)
Someone from a nearby big cat rescue brought him in for a human interest story. The only thing I can clearly recall were the size of his paws … huge!
Unfortunately, back in the mid-80's there were no cell phones at the ready. Can you imagine all the missed selfies?
It is certainly an honor to show value to this profession by giving them a day of remembrance. What is another profession that you would like to see honored by a 'day' of their own?

Plenty of grand(?) ideas came to mind, but when I consulted Google, they were already taken. It's practically absurd!

For some reason -- the heat, maybe? -- this month seems to have dragged!
The delicate delinquents (aka, Macie and Grace) turned 6 years old. We gifted them something called a 'Wobble Wag Giggle' ball, but the jury's still out. Macie's a bit curious, but Grace is petrified. 'Still working to get a video or a cute picture to share.
Funny! Yesterday I logged onto Verizon Wireless to pay our bill and read the following notification (re. my discount):
"Your employment was confirmed on 11/18/18."
OK, then! If Wyndham wants to pretend I'm still employed, I'm happy to look the other way!
Speaking of employment!
I've an interview in a little bit for a H.R. Assistant. It's a little farther drive than I'd prefer; and I don't know how many hours they call 'part-time.' Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I think a Jack Darnell day is a good day! I know someone online who is trying to visit all the national parks. I wonder if she will do the smaller number of the two! That would have been impressive to see that tiger!
ReplyDeleteJuly flew here! I can't believe the kids go back to school on Monday. We had our first monsoon with a little rain last night in our area. Enough to get us out of the pool earlier than we wanted but not enough to cause damage here (yet).

As always great answers. We have stayed at many Nat'l parks. As I have mentioned on my blog, I had ALWAYS pictured a 'monument' as a statue. Until we visited 'White Sands' and 'Chihuahua' monuments and learned better. Sorry about too many LOLs.

ReplyDeletecan't remember what I said. A. we have tons of parks in florida, many with in 25 miles of us. B. if the waggle ball doesn't work out, Big LOVES his, hint hint How big is yours? that is a cheap price if it is the big one he has.
Bob is most definetly my protector. he knows all 1000 of my fears. Dark being the first of many, and wild critters in the back yard at 2. we encounters a wild racoon in our back yard, it attacke Jake and they had a horrible fight, bob killed the raccoon, he first slung it up andover the privacy fence but she came back over the fence fighting. Once I paid five dollars in a mall to have my photo taken with a baby lion. now I can't find it.
Would Big like another? Perhaps for his first 'gotcha' day? I wonder if that raccoon wasn't rabid. Too scary!
DeleteDaddy was always my protector. I was 25, kids were 3 and 5, big storm, power out, summer time in Savannah, had to leave windows and doors open, I was terrified. Daddy left mother home alone and came and slept through the night on sofa cushions laid out in front of the living room screen door.

DeleteI heartily agree that we should celebrate a National Victor Day, Myra! His writing never ceases to amaze me. And yes, you do need to see the Great Smokys - however, don't go in the summer due to the incredible crowds. We often visit in late fall, after the peak of foliage, or early spring. It's perfect.

DeleteThere are sooooo many awesome parks around the country that I'd like to visit someday. Not too likely that I'll ever make it to most of them, but one cool thing about being o-l-d is my hubby and I have free entry to all the national parks. I don't remember for sure, but I'm thinking it only cost us ten bucks apiece for this rest-of-our-lives perk. We also got free lifetime hunting and fishing licenses. Woo HOO. Not that I have any intention of going hunting, but ya never know when we might get the urge to pull our old fishing rods and reels out of mothballs. :)
