G'morning glories!
Is everyone accustomed to the absence of their Christmas trees? While I'm waiting until Epiphany to take ours apart, there's little doubt I'm going to be bothered by that void for a few hours. Maybe longer.
Our New Years Eve was predictably quiet. Someone mentioned PBS, so I tuned in to see the latter part of a musical salute to Rogers and Hammerstein ... don't forget the lyrics! Next, a 30th Anniversary celebration of Andrea Bocelli and friends. Some might not wrap their head around his duets with the likes of Ed Sheeran ... Brian May ..... Shania Twain ..... (etc.) -- but it worked!
Tom's still feeling under the weather, so I heated up a can of black-eyed peas -- threw in some leftover broccoli for color ... then a handful of dry roasted peanuts for crunch. As long as I've known him, Tom refuses to eat a pea, so after an obligatory cup for good luck, the rest went in the trash. Later, I put together another sausage and spinach quiche that's not only easy-peasy, but Addictive.
My favorite gift may be something I gave myself. A new private journal I want to title, "Lessons and Blessings" -- borrowing from Latane Pam at Closed Doors, Open Windows. (So sorry for my brain cells going haywire there!)
Speaking of words! Coming around the long way to my Word for 2026.
Despite it harping on my consciousness for weeks, I just couldn't get behind the often heralded, "Carpe Diem!" It sounds like a marching order ... something felt at a collegiate pep rally. "Boom Shakalaka! Boom Shakalaka!"
I'm too tired, folks.
Then I remembered a movie quote which resonated to my core. Has anyone seen 'The Last Word'? (You can click on a little teaser, here.)
Excerpted from what may be my favorite Shirley MacLaine performance ever:
"Please don't have a nice day -- have a day that matters, have a day that's true, have a day that means something. Have a day."
A bit much to put on a sampler, eh?

ReplyDeleteOur tree and decorations come down after the Epiphany - 6 January.
Indeed, there's a bit of a down when the decorations are packed away; but we must remember that God meant us to enjoy our life on earth. So let's pick ourselves up, cheer each other, and move on to 2026 and beyond.

Each day brings new "stuff" and "old stuff", "boring stuff" and maybe even some "Fun stuff".
Today I'm having a "DAY". Finishing putting away the last of Christmas, working on eBay, learning the ins and outs of the new light box I bought for photographing the things we sell on eBay.
I think that will stretch my brain enough for the start of 2026. Hopefully I can do all of this, if not there is always Tomorrow ... cue Annie.

I loved the movie, The Last Word, and it has been a long time since i could say that. most movies just leave me cold and I think why did I watch that or I turn them off after 10 minutes of nonsense.
ReplyDeleteI packed Santa and the nativity and the poinsettia away and heaved a sigh of relief at the empty spots. The nook remains, except Charlie Brown tree was packed . the nook will stay until I tire of it which might be until Feb. I love the sparkles.
I have not had black eye peas in 5 years, I love them but they hate my system...

DeleteI'm wondering who Latane is...is she one of our bloggers? Because I also declared my new journal to be called "Lessons and Blessings" several weeks ago. Just curious and isn't it interesting how thoughts and ideas seem to go around, as if God is planting seeds in our hearts and minds for what He wants us to learn? I remember back when my hubby was a preacher still, and so often he'd preach a great sermon, and then we'd listen to someone like Charles Stanley or Adrian Rogers and they'd be preaching on the same subject at the same time, like God wanted to get that message across to everyone that day! Amazing how His Holy Spirit moves among us!
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't taken down our tree yet or anything else except for some of the yard decorations. I haven't been pushing it since we've both been sick for a while and just haven't really gotten much spunk yet for doing anything unnecessary. Maybe next week. We are better, thank the Lord, and hope to go back to church tomorrow. I hope your Tom is feeling better. Praying so. I like your "Have a day..." That's rather catchy and makes you think! May God bless all your days with His grace and peace and strength and joy. Amen.

DeleteOh, I just wanted to know who Latane is, because it sounded like we think alike! LOL. And actually I quoted it from one of the ladies at our Bible Study who said something about "Lessons and Blessings", and I declared that's what we all should write in our new journals that were given to us that day. So it caught on, but I can't take full credit for it either! I think it's what God wants us to do!!! "Have a day"! And rejoice with me...It's raining tonight! Hooray!! Praise God!
DeleteHaven't watched the movie mentioned. If it's a new one more than likely I won't see it. I've not had much luck with these new films. They're either vulgar, unpatriotic or just plain weird. I'm so done with that. 😉
ReplyDeleteJust took down all the Christmas decorations this morning (Saturday). In the rain too. Love this rain. We've need it SO badly. Anyway, I don't miss the tree. I do keep a small silver Christmas tree with white LED lights in the corner of the living room year round. It really brightens that little dark spot on a gloomy day. Now I also have an LED cardinal snow globe night light (looks like a old fashioned lantern) next to my recliner that was a gift from our niece Deborah. It has a soft glow and the little particles dance and swirl like snow flakes. Very pretty. That makes me smile every time. 💓
No, this movie is from 2017(2018?) ... I never would have found it, had Sandra not recommended we watch on Netflix.

I do miss my hearing at times, when my attention is brought to music and points from my early years as a trumpet player, !!! Love it and hope the sax player feels better soon....
