G'evening sweet friends,
Forgive if this isn't a normal "Currently" ... I'm simply talking (rambling) off the top of my head.
Outside my window?
Thankfully, Saturday's Big Blow has moved on. I'm grateful for the cooler (cold?) weather it ushed in -- not so much the resulting damage to our fence and back gate. As the late-great blogger Rick used to say, "That's the cost of Doing Life."
What's curious?
I used to believe I could never ever live in Alabama because of the weather. There are few things that Terrify me. (Yes, that's capital-letter T.) In no particular order -- snakes, air travel and tornados.
Saturday morning found me at the desktop, mindlessly scrolling when I heard nearby emergency sirens begin to wail. "Huh?" Thankfully, my cell phone alerted me, "tornado warning." Almost casually, I gathered our helmets and went to rouse Tom -- who then, in a stupor knocked over my favorite table lamp. Kicking broken pieces under the table, I watched out the window while he fell back to sleep. Neither of us unduly alarmed ... lol! Prepare what we can and pray for that we can't.
PS - Prayers, please, for the missing boater authorities still searching for on the Alabama river.
Time to say Goodbye
...to the eggnog, syrupy sweets ... all things Christmas. Because I honestly favor protein v. rich, doughy food stuffs.
... not so much the barren, empty feel of our dining room. That's the spot in our home I try to 'adorn' with seasonal pops of color, but nothing's come to mind. (If you've any January-ish suggestions, I'd love to hear them!)
Grateful
Our visit to the hospital Friday night wasn't so awful -- or especially long. When Tom's primary heard he had been experiencing significant abdominal pain she (strongly) suggested we go to the ER. The CT scan didn't show anything concerning, but they don't like his hemoglobin levels and have referred us to (another) specialist.
Reading
Okay, I'm making an effort. Remembering what someone suggested: Even while not in the mood, make it a point to read at least 10 minutes every day until that becomes a habit. Not my usual genre, but I'm giving (a Prime freebie) "Eight Years of Lies" -- 3-1/2 stars.
Watching
NFL playoffs ... mostly behind closed eyelids. I wonder whatever became of that girl who lived for these moments ... who could recite players and statistics without trying.
Looking forward
... to a new (Bible) study tomorrow morning
... for another opportunity to wear my favorite heavy articles of clothing
... and buying a Publix rotesserie chicken to fix a big old pot-full of de-tox soup.
... not to mention, reading what you're up to!
I'm gonna "Have a Day!" ..... and hope y'all will, too!
Hugs, Myra

I have family in Alabama and they're always talking about us moving there. Yeah, like I'm really going to leave my sons here. Not going to happen. It's a nice place to visit though.
ReplyDeleteI don't do tornadoes or those cotton mouths they have there. My brother had to take a gun with him, just to fish in his own creek due to those dreadful water snakes.
I hope the doctors can help figure out what's up with Tom. Do you have a tornado shelter?
Unfortunately, no.... but it's still on my radar!
DeleteThat was a strange tornado warning. Glad you're ok and hope you can replace the table lamp. Christmas decor is gone. For January? I still think of winter and snow decor. Snow flakes and snow men (or people). Perhaps some red cardinals.
ReplyDeleteI really have nothing interesting to say, but I'm here.
Jon
I love cardinals! (So glad you're 'here'!)
DeleteI do not even blink during a tornado warning unless I see stuff outside sailing sideways. But then again I have lived in Alabama all my life. Not fond of snakes but can identify the bad guys .
ReplyDeleteThat's key!
DeletePraise the Lord you are safe after the storm; and praying for Tom's and your good health.
ReplyDeleteWe now have NFL games shown on TV over here. I did not realise the game takes so long. I can't understand what is going on either. Seems complicated to me - but fun.
God bless.
I'm the same way about basketball ... and hockey. Do you follow a certain team or two?
DeleteNo not really, Mevely. I don't understand what's going on on the field. Same when they play soccer over here; I watch for ten minutes and fall asleep.
DeleteThe sirens were probably on behest of the feds, I read they're sending ICE to crack down on all the illegals pouring into Alabama these days.
ReplyDeleteYou are not rambling, you are bloviating with the best of bloviators, The MadSnapper.
ReplyDelete"bloviate: to speak or write verbosely, typically not about anything important.
See what I mean? and I am NOT saying what you said is not important. it is all important and I love it when you bloviate.
I strained my brain trying to think of a seasonal something for your dining room, but since I have not one genetic gene that says decorate, I have no suggestion at all.
I am so thankful you were both ok and the tornado did not harm you are the sweet pups. I did not know you are afraid of snakes. now I do. Hurricanes are at the top of my list and tornadoes are side by side with them.
if we lived in CA it would be floods and fires, Hawaii would be hurricanes and volcanoes and tsunamis.
by now in this comment you should understand we are sisters in bloviating...
Bloviating never crossed my mind! Glad to be part of da sista-hood!
DeleteI enjoyed your rambling format. It was interesting and entertaining, except for the tornado/broken lamp part, and Tom going to the ER. Just glad they didn't find anything majorly wrong, but do follow up on that hemoglobin stuff. As far as January decorations go, good question. Here in the south I don't think of keeping snowmen and snowflakes around for decor. My mind starts gravitating toward February and Valentines in a week or so, but right now I'm just kind of enjoying a not so cluttered look for a while. LOL. It's getting downright chilly here again this week, so we're bringing the hoodies and jackets back out of the closet after the warm spell we just had. It is winter, after all! Stay safe and warm, and keep us posted on "events".
ReplyDeleteI sure will, Pam. Thank you!
DeleteKeeping Tom in prayer, Myra. Yes, I remember those days of tornadoes...wishing you a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteBack at-cha, friend!
DeleteI just put out some Valentine-like pops of red and hearts in a few places. That will work for me until I replace them with a few shamrocks. Just a hint of red and hearts for a while. I like your late friend's saying "That's the cost of doing life." I need to remember that one! Soup will be good this week, here in colder central Florida. It might even be in the 30s at night, by mid-week! Have a cozy and happy week, Myra!!
ReplyDeleteIt was 30* when I took the girls out at 6:30 ... brrrrr! Please keep safe and warm!
DeleteWe're experiencing the same cold here in GA as y'all are in Alabama today. Yes, it was so windy yesterday, it threatened to blow me over! Glad you didn't have any encounters with those dreaded tornadoes, too. Did I ever tell you that tornadoes have always been my greatest fear, too? Must have been petrified by the twister in The Wizard of Oz as a child. Know I'll be praying for Tom and you, Myra. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteYour prayers are so valued, Martha!
DeleteI always enjoy reading your off the cuff thoughts. Today especially hit me about the abdominal pain of Tom's. I had to do that awhile back, even after all the tests, all day at the hospital and no answer. Then to my trusty VA Dr. who solved the problem..
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I enjoy the alerts (BLOG ALERTS!) from you.
Take care of brother Tom. YOu enjoy yourself in this COOL stuff!
Love you lady
Wow ... small world! I hope whatever the "problem", yours wasn't serious.
DeleteSo glad Tom is okay . . . life does happen. {{sigh}} At least we have time to 'run' from a hurricane, tornadoes seem to come from nowhere. Good thing is the storm only took the fence/gate and not you and Tom. Lordy Mercy, and life does happen. Silver Lining= enjoy your winter cloths and the new Bible study. ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've said the same thing -- about hurricanes v. tornados. Thanking God for His mercies.
Deletethankful that you guys are okay and aside from the damage to the fence, nothing else major. My list of fears is pretty much the same as yours...However I am doing better with the flights. Just a few months ago, I broke my favorite lamp and how very disappointing this was..I feel for you here. As far as the blank spots in the house..I am struggling with that this year. I finally hung a picture this morning. Not my favorite at all, but at least something is on the wall where the Christmas tree stood in front. I'm also struggling with coming off of the sugar high that I've been on for the past month or two. Gosh, it's so hard to get all of this out of our systems. Hoping your Bible study has settled your spirit and things this week are big blessings...hugs to you..
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I just had a teeny piece of pumpkin pie -- but half a can of whipped cream went on top. *sigh*
DeleteI'm right there with you and Shug's comments about the January decor or lack there of and the Sugar High. I have got to get back to more healthy eating and learning when to keep my mouth shut when those yummy things are tempting me. Oh its so HARD !!!
ReplyDeleteLove your Monday Rambles so much.
Praying for Tom and his health issues.
I'm right there with you and the fear of snakes. They just give me the willies.
Have a good and calmer week ahead.
(((hugs)))
Sue
Thank you so much, Sue. I love how my friends "get" me!
DeleteSorry about your fence. Those things would scare me too. Sorry about that tornado warning. I don't have any suggestions for you. I'm still working on getting Christmas put away. Sorry about the ER visit. I hope they will find a solution for Tom. Good for you trying to read. I am not a reader but would like to be. I've actually been into football this year. I enjoyed the games over the weekend. Hope your Bible study goes well. Hope your week goes well.
ReplyDeleteYours, too, Debby. Thanks!
DeleteYou have a lot of different things going on there.
ReplyDeleteI am happier for the cooler weather. I did not hear about your tornado. I guess you mean you are getting rid of sugar. The NFL not for me. And I hope you enjoy your new bible study.
Who thought retirement would be boring? LOLOLOL.
DeleteTo brighten a space, I leave up one very small Christmas tree. The little silver one with white lights and put it in one corner. The other side of the house I left up the pretty green ones over the sliding glass doors. It really cheers up the space with no extra cost or taking up a lot of room. Overcast days like this I turn them on. They're so warm and inviting. ✨
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so pretty! Inviting, yes!
DeleteI used to decorate for Valentine's Day early just to add color to the blah house after Christmas. It made everything look brighter. We had roteserie chicken tonight for dinner too. It was delicious and made a quick and easy dinner for my daughter to fix. We got much colder here too after a cold front blew through. I dug out my warmest sweater and put my coat on this morning. I had a great check up with my heart doctor, but found out I gained 10 pounds so I have some serious exercise in my future. More walking is good for my heart too. I don't like gaining that much weight but it's what the Christmas goodies did for me. Time to cut back a little for sure! Hope you enjoy your cool weather. I don't much like it at all! Love ma
ReplyDeleteThanks for this update, Ma. I'm so glad your cardiologist gave you two thumbs up. The rest will take care of itself!
DeleteNot sure you will get this, but I wanted to tell you that we appreciated the short story about your son, I smiled and was proud. He is special to you I know!!!
