Status?
I was just revising our June calendar to accommodate a pop-up appointment.
In a way I'm grateful for a full dance card, but there are days it's plain wearying.
After Tom's lab work we'd plans to visit Lowe's garden center.
Given the threat of more rain, however I detoured to Fat Boy's Ranch. Seriously, the best smoked meat I've enjoyed in all my years.
My pulled pork salad.
Somehow a slab of ribs and 2 lbs. of brisket also made it home.
Can't help ourselves!

Love how they decorate their not-just-for-Christmas tree to accommodate everything from the SLE Rodeo to patriotic holidays.
Trying something new
I remember asparagus growing wild on the side of the road in the little valley just off the Hill. My dad would pull the Fairlane off to the side and park while mother filled a brown paper bag with that goodness.
Most likely, I was scrunched down in the back seat, hoping no-one I knew spotted me. (lol)

I'm not holding my breath ours will flourish, but the idea makes me smile.
(about to start) Reading
I've been hearing good things about Kristen Hannah's The Women.
I hope they're right ..... but must admit, I'm not anxious to reawaken memories of the Viet Nam years.

Did you hear?
I saw an interview with Pope Leo's brother who shared that (prior to the papal conclave) he and his brother played Wordle every morning.

Like my first sip of coffee, I so look forward to doing that.
Anyone else?
Do you suppose Pope Leo still makes time to do that?

... and belly laugh, too!
Any Fluffy fans out there?
At first I wasn't so sure Gabriel Iglasias' special was going to be very entertaining ... after all, there are so many nasty, lewd comics out there. Many of them female! I'm not so easily offended, but ya.

Nasty. (Did I say that already?)
Anyway. I love how his delivery is full of life lessons, cloaked in humor.
An excerpt: "I'm here to entertain, not to offend."
What's made you laugh recently?
I'd love to hear about it!

let’s see sweet Myra!! you make me have a huge smile 😃 with each post you make. Aside from that I’m laughing at myself for tripping over the vacuum hose while cleaning the pool.. I almost went in free style! I can’t swim so thank goodness the pool is a sports pool. your salad plate sure looked good. Can’t beat a great tasting piece of smoked pork. Sam loves asparagus …me, not so much. But, it’s healthy for you! plan another trip to lowe’s and maybe you will get another delicious meal.. lol..
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking being the designated driver sure has it's rewards! (I'm holding out for new-to-me First Watch breakfast next week!)
DeleteThat is a neat tree and a good idea. I like their creativity. I smiled when you mentioned the “Fairlane” That’s a blast from the past.
ReplyDeleteHmm I laughed the other day at the irony - my husband doesn’t want me on a ladder, and not 30 minutes later I fall off a 5 in. garden stool!
Have a wonderful week, Myra
Irony, yes! That's what my late friend Rick called, "The cost of doing life."
DeleteI am not easily offended but there are comediennes and comedians who just go way to far. I laughed with TheHub tonight from just one sentence we heard on a tv show and it made both of us laugh out loud. Now I can't even remeber what it was!
ReplyDeleteRandom laughter feels so good!
Deletemy last laugh out loud moment was yesterday. Bob's PT Angel was due at 9ish. I went down the hall and went from house gown to leggings/Tshirt and came out and sat on the small sofa to WATCH the driveway. Before my bottom touched the sofa, Beau stood and walked to the window on the world and stretched his head to WATCH for Angel. He knows when I put on Clothes that soon Angel or Lisa or Karen will appear. We both laughed long and loud. He is our laugh master. Better than most comedians.
ReplyDeletePulled pork is my favorite meat, and one that I can eat without harm. that plate is calling my name. when the asparagus grows, send photos, I have never seen it growing. I love the canned kind and have never tried cooking it.
I am still smiling over the picture in my head of you crouched out of sight while your parents embarrassed you
I keep my phone's alarm set for both 7:30am and 7:30pm (for Macie's Rx) ... but lately, she's been beating me to the tone. I've no idea how they KNOW when it's time!
DeleteIt's so sad and worrying that over here comedians seem to deliberately try to offend. Their jokes are usually aimed at certain people - like Christianity. Often their "jokes" are meant to imply that there's something wrong with you if you believe in God, Jesus, Christianity. Thus influencing a vulnerable new generation to their point of view.
ReplyDeleteI thought asparagus are difficult to grow. I didn't realise they can grow wild.
If it's a choice between a garden centre and a restaurant I'd choose food every time; unless one can eat the plants in the garden centre.
God bless always.
Exactly! Tom told me he watched something where all the "ladies" were doubled over laughing -- while the men never cracked a smile.
DeleteNo mstter what else is happening you all do eat well! There are plenty of barbecue places around here, but I could never eat as much of it aa you do. Hope your appointments slow down soon. They can get tiresome quickly. Have a great day! Love,ma
ReplyDeleteBeing (rightly) referred to as a carnivore, I'm grateful Tom loves good food as much a me.
DeleteWhen I lived in Maryland (my 'other' life) we had a garden that came with the house and it had a strawberry patch. Growing up through all of the strawberries were asparagus - here, there, and everywhere in the patch. Random, but delicious! I have always understood that asparagus takes time to take hold and there might not be any for a year or so. They came back each year for me, in Maryland. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! Thanks for telling me ... I promise not to give up hope.
DeleteOh, I love asparagus...and prefer to steam it to cook it. I hope you can grow it...what a priceless bonus that would be since it is so expensive to buy. I love the looks of your pulled pork salad! Did you put bbq sauce on it for a dressing? That's what I'd do. I play my Wordle and the other couple of games usuallyl after supper or later in the evening if I don't forget! It's my daily brain challenger and some days I win, and some days I lose, but that's life! I keep trying! Yeah, I probably wouldn't want to read anything from the Viet Nam era either. Let us know if it is good. That was just such a difficult time in our still formative youth years that didn't end until we were adults. Too many of our friends didn't come home, or they come home so different we didn't know them anymore. It was very hard. I guess every generation has their seasons of war. That was ours. Not a good one. I don't know anything about the book, so I guess you'll have to tell us.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a blessed rest of your week. I can't believe it's Thursday already, and I am way behind in reading and writing! Bye for now!
Nope, no BBQ sauce - I stick with bleu cheese, even tho' they keep 2 different kinds of sauce on each table top.
DeleteIf you're looking for some "safe" and truly funny comedians, Dry Bar on You Tube is a great option, Myra. I haven't got Wordle on my phone right now, but I do enjoy playing Five Across on Fox News for free. Oh, and I still work Jumble puzzles to keep my mind active. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out Five Across!
DeleteUmmm Yummm, boy that pulled pork salad has me drooling. I really love the flavors of the pork. Haven't found a good restaurant for it though.
ReplyDeleteI do like asparagus done al dente in the micro with olive oil and garlic really good and quick. Small tender shoots just don't over cook them or they get too mushy.
I agree with most of the comedy routines being too off color for me. Sometimes I think we get numbed and are not offended as we should be.
Sue
I'd love to introduce y'all to real Southern bbq ... com'on down!
DeleteI play Wordle everyday. My family has an ongoing text for only Wordle, we're a very competitive clan. Sorry I don't even know who or what Fluffy and Gabriel Iglasias are, should I be embarrassed? I'll get busy and look them up so I'll be in the know. :-) I've never had wild asparagus but I love what I buy in the store. Hope your seeds give you a good harvest !!
ReplyDeleteOkay, my turn to be embarrassed. How does that ongoing Wordle text work?
DeleteI've never heard of Fluffy and will have to look it up. I do love Gabriel Iglasias, so thank you for the link and reminder. :)
ReplyDelete😉
DeleteThat food looks good. BBQ is such a staple here in the South. We ate it so frequently at First Baptist Church I became a little bit tired of it. I still like ribs, though, especially if it's a dry rub. Yum.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs and their antics make me giggle often. They are so funny. Steve cracks one liners a lot. All those brighten my day. Laughter is the best medicine. It really is.
Blessings. 💓
I don't know if it's possible for me to grow tired of bbq ... but I'm going to enjoy giving it a try! 😄
DeleteThat food looks so good! What made me laugh recently? We were watching the Five last night and Greg Gutfeld said something (not rightly remembering what though) --he always makes me nearly jump off out of the couch, LOL. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.
ReplyDeleteWe love Gutfield!
DeleteOh wow, that meal looks delicious. That's a lovely tree. We tried asparagus last year and they came up super skinny and they said to cut them back to come up again this year. We haven't seen them yet. That's sweet about them playing Wordle.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I guess word games aren't only for 'regular' folks!
DeleteFat Boy's Ranch - sounds fattening, but good. lol I play Wordle. Love it. I try to do games 15 minutes a day for my slowly going brain.
ReplyDeleteHope you grow your asparagus. Love Gutfield.
It's actually the perfect menu for someone doing Keto.
