Our Week that Was

Summer in the City, whew.
In the words of my favorite meteorologist:  "All of y'all that straight BEGGED for summer heat ... why did you do that?! 😢"

Whatcha say, I share a few blips from the Week That Was.

Backing up to last Saturday ...

Tom was invited to bring his horn and sit in with the Lo-Fi Loungers at Montgomery White Water (theme park).   They may not headline the Performing Arts Center anytime soon, but their blend of olde-time western swing, jazz and Americana is pretty entertaining.

On the flip side...
I never gave much thought to what musicians' wives/significant others actually do when their fellas are playing.  Since we arrived unaccompanied, I may have sat out there by myself in the crazy heat and humidity having a pity party.
I'm glad we were able to visit the park, but honestly it seemed a bit underwhelming; the 'rapids', just meh.  One and done!

Monday ...
Was our last session of Laura Story's When God Doesn't Fix It.  On some level, who amongst us can't relate?   My favorite take-away truth:  "Things don't have to get better; we have to get better."

Tuesday ...
Was my nerve conduction study.  Now I know what a marionette feels like, lol.  It wasn't painful; rather, humorous to watch my hand jump involuntarily.

Doc suggested an MRI be done on my neck, but will wait and see if wearing the wrist splint for a couple weeks doesn't make a difference.|

In what's become tradition, instead of getting a lollypop for being a good girl, Tom took me for a late lunch at Long Horn.  Their salmon and broccoli never fails to put me in a happy state of mind.

...and the beat goes on!

Yesterday Troy and Lois invited us to join them 'around the corner' at their friend's brunch.  I can't help feeling like a third-wheel, but they kept assuring we were welcome.   (All the same, I bought a bottle of Pino Grigio ... Miz Manners, don't you know.)

We had such a good time!  Even tho' we were outdoors, the breeze from the water felt amazing.   The Blackstone grill was fired up, and now I've a serious case of "want"!   (I've never grilled, but that seems easier and cleaner than charcoal.)

There were Mimosas, fruit, cheeses, bacon, Conecuh sausage, eggs and (drum roll!) Lemon Ricotta pancakes -- that appeared more like tasty crepes.   The main event (to me) was getting to love on 6-month old Penelope ... whose parents were kayaking on the Coosa River.

All that fresh air and carbs?
Nothing to do but go home and close our eyes!

... and so begins another new week.
But first!  I need to visit Publix and return the apple pie that, when cut, turned out to be blueberry.  Tom was so disappointed, but I thought it was hilarious.  Has that sort of thing happened to anyone else?

Have a blessed kind of day!
Hugs, Myra

  1. What a full and fabulous week! From music and marionette hands to surprise blueberry pieloved every bit of your storytelling.

That brunch sounded amazing (lemon ricotta pancakes? Yes, please!).

And hey, I’d totally want that Blackstone grill too. Hope this week brings more joy and fewer pie mix-ups!

  2. Talk about a full week, wow! even the test was fun, or funny anyway.. Out of all you did I think the grill out would have been my choice. the thing is bob always did the grill and I am terrified of propane gas, before he stopped walking, he could turn the propane on and get it regulated and I could do burgers, but now its just sitting there waiting for me to turn into a pioneer woman (they did not have propane) and use the grill. Ain't gonna happen. I love blueberry pie, but bob is apple pie all the way. nope, never had a surprise pie unless the years ago Pumpking pie from Walmart was so bad, I threw it in the trash. we both said we never met a pie we could not eat until then.
so what is you hand doing? tingling? burning? can't use it? I either missed the hand thing or forgot I read it, either is a possiblity

    1. Inexplicably, for several months now, the fingers on my right hand go totally numb and look like an appendage out of a wax museum. Weird.

  3. That is so true = “ Things don't have to get better; we have to get better” We can always do better.
Boy you really had a busy week but sounds like you enjoyed every minute of it and that’s a good thing. I commend you for venturing out in the heat/humidity. Best of all is getting to cuddle with a cute baby. That nerve appointment sounds like something they did to me after my rotator cuff surgery to see if everything was working properly.
Have a great week doing whatever it is that brings joy to you and Tom.

  4. Praying for yours and Tom's good health.

I would certainly appreciate a video of Tom and Group playing music. Live music is such fun.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful week with good weather, great food and a drink or two.

    God bless y'all !!!

    1. ... or 3? I think this is the only clip I have of Tom playing with the Lo-Fi fellows. From an Episcopal church function last year. https://youtu.be/9-b0Nq7eYZM
      Thanks for asking, Victor!

    2. Thank you so much, Mevely. Great music. Oh I wish I could be there. I don't play any instrument but could certainly join in the singing - "He's got the whole world in his hands!" Perhaps next time you could record part of the concert. God bless you and Tom, dear friends.

  5. There were probably two groups of pie eaters that were surprised, because I bet the blueberry one ended up in an apple box.

  6. thecontemplativecat here...Pity Party! Haven't heard that saying for a long time. I have just been diagnosed as having Parkinson's and feel the edges of self pity creep in. As far as pie goes, I am good for almost everything. Rhubarb is my favorite.

  7. Mr D was playing music when I met him and still plays. I'm very familiar with the 'band' table where the put the spouses!! Hope the splint gets the job done and no other medical procedures are needed. That was a yummy lunch menu!!

  8. Sure in hopes that the splint does the job and hope you don't have to have the MRI. I saw some of those pies (first time) at the grocery store just a bit ago.. They are a good size indeed...I'm guessing that was a shock to find blueberries rather than the expected apples. Brunch...who doesn't love a brunch and all the nice foods that go along with a mid morning to just past noon meal. Yay for Longhorn! My favorite place to eat... Maybe this week will be one of rest and relaxation...

  9. You have had such a full and eventful week, Myra! Yes, let's hope that the splint will do the trick for you. And seeing your little Penelope made my heart sing. She is a grand grand. :) Blessings!

  10. We have one of those gas grills. It's wonderful. Easy to care for and I can't tell the difference in the flavor. What's another win is when the power goes out we can still cook. (Our 'all-house' generator is a 16K and we should have bought a 20K so it would run the stove/oven, water heater and a couple other items. Live & learn.)
It is boring to sit around waiting on someone who is blessed with being musically inclined to play for others. I'm not one of those that are so blessed and I'm SO thankful Steve can't play.
Such a cute baby. She looks so content. That's the way I look after a big carb meal.
    Y'all stay cool!
    Blessings. 🌞

  11. Ummm, we just bought an apple pie from Costco for our small group get together last Thursday. It was so good. I don't think I would have been disappointed if it turned out to be blueberry though. Hope you got your money back or a fresh baked apple pie instead.
Busy week you had for sure. Hope the splint will do the trick. Dave continues to have some health issues so I would appreciate prayers. I just want to plead...enough already!!!

  12. Oh my! I am sure Publix made it right!! That hasn't happened to me. I typically don't buy pies. I would, indeed, return a mistake like that! Little baby Penelopy would have been my favorite distraction/attraction, though that menu sounds beyond devine!! Blessings, dear friend, and prayers for that wrist to heal completely!

  13. Penelopy is just the sweetest little thing. I have twelve weeks to meet Mackenzie.
That pie had to be so disappointing.
Nice you got to go out with your family. I love that.
What is going on with your wrist - neck? I must have missed all that. I hope you can get it fixed.

  14. Oh, sweet Penelope!! She is just adorable! I would want to sit and hold her instead of letting her rest in that seat! LOL. What fun is that??? She's a beauty! Your week sounds like a great week. Oh, I've had those nerve conduction tests before too...what fun. I hope they figure things out and can help you. Pinched nerves in the neck are no fun, especially when they affect your fingers and hands and arms and shoulders...yep! I know! I ended up with a cervical spinal fusion for a ruptured/slipped disc. Much better now! Oh, a blueberry pie disguised as an apple pie, or vice versa! Either way, that's funny, but I'm sorry it was a disappointment for Tom. I hope he finally got his apple pie. I hope you have a lovely week ahead!! Always fun to visit with you.
