Hey there!
From the sun room ...
a nod to the season
I fastened a couple of Dollar Tree scrunchies around the neck of a mason jar with little flags inside. Easy peasy!
On the bright side, all this rain we've been having is keeping the room cool enough I can enjoy sitting out there with my coffee most mornings.
❤️
So, we just got back from the girls' monthly 'squeeze (vet visit). Macie Ann update:
My best girl's hanging in there, taking her meds like a champ. I keep my phone's song alarm set for twice a day, and darn if the girls aren't turning into Pavlov's pooch. They know these things! (Grace doesn't need any meds but she gets a placebo, aka training treat.) M's breathing respirations are duly recorded, and for the time being she seems to be enjoying her best life.
Okay, I've a question for some of y'all of "generous years."
I've come to the conclusion that Tom's and I've Irreconcilable Differences when it comes to eating. In short, I've turned into my father -- who believed breakfast the Most Important meal of the day. Tom, on the other hand, doesn't enjoy eating anything until late afternoon.
The older we get, the more set in our ways, less willing to compromise. (Anyone else?)
That's all well and good while at home. Yesterday morning, however, Tom had an eye doctor's appointment -- practically next door to an eatery I'd been dying to check out -- First Watch.
Check out the water bottle!
It reminds me of the way we used to get our milk with a white paper thingie atop. (Remember?)
To put it mildly, poor Tom's breakfast was, less than stellar. But mine? Love at first bite! Because I wasn't raised in a barn, I didn't lick the plate ... but the thought crossed my mind.
I walked in, fully intending to order the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict. Then my eye caught "Blueberry Lemon Cornbread" on the chalkboard ... things that make you go, hmmmm!
In the end I settled for a Chickichanga.
(From the website)
"Whipped cage-free eggs with spicy, all-natural chicken breast, chorizo, green chiles, Cheddar and Monterey Jack, onion and avocado rolled in a flour tortilla. Topped with Vera Cruz sauce and all-natural sour cream."
Would we go back?
Due to their price points this isn't a spot we'll frequent on a regular basis.
Nevertheless, I'm keeping it close to my heart for a gal-pals luncheon ... to be determined!
Thought for the day ...
❤️
Y'all be good!
Hugs, Myra
That breakfast looks pretty good to me! both of them! And I'm glad your sweet girl is taking her meds and doing well. She's so adorable, as are both of them. Your table looks really pretty and festive!! And I love the last picture/meme. I can totally relate to that these days!! Regarding meal times, etc., my hubby likes to stay on a routine for all meals, eating at the same time every day. When we get off schedule because of appointments or other activities it doesn't go well with him and he gets cranky. LOL. Frankly, I'm pretty much the same way anymore. When it's "our meal time", I'm hungry and ready to eat! I've found that us "mature folks" do much better when we stay on a schedule for meals and bedtime! Kind of like a baby! LOL.
ReplyDeleteYep. Routine can feel comforting, for sure! I know all about becoming cranky ... hangry!
DeleteSo glad to hear your puppies are doing well. As are you and Tom.
ReplyDeleteRegarding eating. I do not have a set time any more. Sometimes when I'm busy I skip breakfast all together and get on with working in the garden or whatever. I've been known to go all day and forget to eat; and then realise at 8:00pm I'd better have something.
And yes, I do remember those milk bottles. They were collected empty the next day, cleaned and re-used. Ah ... the days before disposable plastic.
Aging disgracefully is fun. God bless.
I may just try that! Thank you so, dear friend.
DeleteI love this - and I love that meme and it is so TRUE!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are totally different in food now - he said I changed. I say he changed. LOL Same with the temperature - he is always cold and I am always hot.
Can you believe where we went today? First Watch - less than a mile from our house.
Rick had the shrimp, grits, and sausage plate. I had the Scottish oatmeal and thought I had died and gone to Heaven. He did like his - thought it was a little spicy, but I loved mine.
I made blueberry cornbread - just did this Sunday - good, but not carb friendly. I could send you the recipe if you want. Sandie
What a small world! Thanks so much for the recipe offer -- yes, I'd like to try that when the kids come over.
DeleteMy late husband liked pretty much whatever I put in front of him for breakfast and he enjoyed his food. I can take or leave breakfast when I first get up in the morning but eventually I make myself a egg. I think your idea for the flags is great.. mind if I steal it? I do remember the paper tabs on the milk and I remember when the milk froze on the doorstep the cream would rise up with the little cap on top like a hat!
ReplyDeleteSteal away, girlfriend! I just read your memory to Tom and he got the biggest smile on his face.
DeleteI'm glad your two sweet fluffy girls are doing well.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely picked the breakfast that I would choose. I always eat breakfast and have a mid-afternoon dinner ( when I'm at home). I never eat lunch.
Here in Rehab Purgatory we are forced (encouraged?) to eat three meals a day.
I like that apt "thought" at the end of your post.
I like your table in the sun room. It's cheerful for the summer season. (Jon)
DeleteBreakfast/lunch is my main meal of the day; evening likely a cup of yogurt or cheese and crackers. I've not eaten 3 meals/day since high school.
DeleteMy Sam is the big Breakfast eater around here...I'm not a huge Breakfast eater myself. We have been to first watch a couple of times and although I practically cleaned my plate, it isn't my favorite. plus it cost more than I want to pay for eggs...LOL
ReplyDeleteTrue that!
DeleteHello.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming and relatable post! I love how you weave everyday moments vet visits, breakfast habits, rainy morningsinto a thoughtful reflection on aging, routines, and simple joys.
The bit about Pavlov’s pooches made me chuckle, and I could almost taste that Chickichanga through your words.
Your sunroom sounds like a cozy haven, and I totally agree some eateries are just perfect for a future gal-pal lunch. Thanks for the warm, personal slice of life!
Thank you for your kind words.
DeleteWe have a First Watch here in Lakeland. It's been here awhile because Joe and I went for breakfast not long after they opened. Neither of us enjoyed our meals and especially the prices. Never went back. Seems folks around here either love it or hate it. I won't say I wouldn't go again if invited, but I won't ever suggest it, or go by myself. Love your bouquet of flags! I stuck a couple in my door wreath, which is red, white and blue. As you said, 'tis the season. Sending a hug!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a dismal experience! I hate when that happens. Hugs!
DeleteTheHub loves breakfast and has been known to order it at night if we are on the road and stop at a Cracker Barrel. I do not like breakfast foods at all and don't want anything but coffee in my mouth until at least noon.
ReplyDeleteI have eaten lunch at first watch, but never breakfast.
I used to be that way, too. I think that all changed when the office where I was working regularly brought in breakfast ... I'd never tasted a bagel before!
Deleteoff beat me is here! out of all the interesting things you posted about, the milk bottle is IT.. born in the deep and poor south, there was no milk delivery where we lived, Savannah. for 40 years I have heard bob's story of the milk bottles like this delivered to their door, on a wagon driven by and old beared man, pulled by a horse. almost every time he drank milk. now in the dementia world I hear it many times a day. NOOOOOO. ha ha
ReplyDeletethere are five First Watch here, the one that is 17 miles away was really good, the one that is 3 miles away the food is almost inedible. I think it has to do with who is cooking on the day we went because otherwise it might be closed.
YES we are opposite on every single thing we eat, the only thing we agree on is early to be and early to rise, but I would LOVE to sleep until at least 4 but for 40 years we wake up at 3.. his choice and now mine. all our dogs have been fed at 3 and 3, set in stone by them.
Maci looks so sweet and it hurts my heart to think of her being ill. Good idea on the placebo.
FIVE restaurants in Bradenton! Wow. Ya, I'm pretty sure a restaurant's success (or demise) depends a lot on their cook/chef.
DeleteDanny isn't a breakfast person either, Myra. He rarely has anything before noon except a cookie with his coffee. We make it work, though. We have a First Watch down the street and another breakfast cafe, Keke's, next to our local Publix. Yes, you're right about the prices in eating out anywhere. Sometimes when we go to Cracker Barrel, I'll order breakfast instead of "regular" food. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteI love the flags and the Gingham tablecloth. The breakfast looks very good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda!
DeleteThat makes me happy too that the pup's are well, plus you and Tom. 💞
ReplyDeleteSteve & I are pretty much in sych for eating habits but I understand it's best to do what's best for you personally, your health and digestive tract. "According to reports ..." 😂 I've read "they" say it's best to eat breakfast a couple of hours after waking. I forget why. Maybe that's a digestion thing too? Wish I could remember the whole report, the why's and the wherefores.
It was cool this AM but now it's hot. 🫠 It's cooler for our typical June's. Not complaining. Lovin' all this rain! ⛈️ Hope that keeps up all Summer!
Blessings to you all. 💞
That makes sense! Blessings, dear lady.
DeleteOh Yah, that ending quote is me all over. Today is a pretty good day.
ReplyDeleteI guess you and I are in the same boat. I love a good breakfast, Dave is a tea and croissant kind of guy. I do agree that the older I get the more stuck in my ways I am..Its so definitely true for that guy of mine..makes me crazy at times. (:0)
Sue
How nice to have you in my life boat, Sue!
DeleteI'm glad you could have a great breakfast even though it's not your hubby's cup of tea.
ReplyDelete🤗
DeleteI do often feel like I've reached my expiration date, but, yes I'm thankful for each day. I do have a good appetite and love breakfast lunch and dinner. Our biggest meal of the day is dinner, but I good at the other meals too. There's no chance I'll wither away for sure. Hope you enjoy your lovely weather. We got some badly needed rain here today too! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteLike that old song lyric, "Feels like it's raining all over the world!"
DeleteThat looks cute on your table. That's good that the rain has cooled that room down. I'm glad Marcie Ann is doing okay. I'm glad you enjoyed your breakfast. It seems to me that my day goes by and I'm not hungry yet I do need to eat breakfast. Always happy to wake up, that's for sure.
ReplyDelete👍😉
DeleteI always love how you weave the everyday with warmth and humor, Myra. Glad Macie Ann is holding steady, and that breakfast? Honestly, now I want a Chickichanga. Here's to finding joy in the little things—even if we don’t always agree on breakfast
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try and recreate it, here in my own kitchen.
DeleteYES, YES, YES - seems I need to eat earlier and Mr D wants to eat later. If I wait on him I'm starving.. We enjoy having our meals together but I don't know....it's getting to be a problem. Hope Macie Ann continues to do well. Our little dogbabies are so precious to us. We've had a lot of rain lately, keeping this old lady in the house. Hope I'll be able to do some porch-sitting soon.
