Hey there!
I'd like to tell y'all I've been enjoying some down time at the beach ... but that would be a big fat fib. Nope, just caught up Doing Life. Grateful to have finally secured our Star IDs yesterday. While we've no plans to board a commercial aircraft, I've always been a rules follower. One and done!
I'm loving the thought of celebrating Easter with Troy and Lois.
Not loving how our yard seems to have taken on a life of its own ... and not in a good way. I'm pondering a visit to Lowe's garden center, but the idea of sticking my fingers in the dirt gives me the icks. We'll see.
From the Test Kitchen .....
You know that old saying, you get what you pay for?
Yep. I thought to save a couple bucks buying a new-to-me box wine. Except! As closely as I scrutinized the hieroglyphs printed on the bottom, the little spout refused to spurt. Tom to the rescue!
Thankfully, I had saved an old 'real' bottle -- but given the amount remaining we had to use empty juice containers for the rest. I got a case of the giggles, imagining someone opening the refrigerator door and thinking a big swig of cranberry juice sounds just right. Waste not, want not!
Maybe it's the season, but I've been eating eggs like never before. That means, jumping at all the gimmicks found online. Work smarter, not harder. Ha!
The first, while not an Epic Fail wasn't worth the electricity. 5-5-5 they call it - guaranteed for the perfect hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot. I don't know what size eggs they were using, but mine didn't begin to resemble the article. Fortunately, Macie and Grace didn't give a whit about appearances.
Next? A soft-boil steam. Easy peasy.
Not. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Yuk, ya.
Not only were the girls not interested, I had to soak that darn strainer all night. And scrub with an old toothbrush.
Don't believe everything you see on TV, boys and girls.
From now I'm going to stick with my Egglettes. They may not come out in a perfect oval fashion, but like the ugly saddle shoes I was made to wear, they do the job.
Have you a tried-and-true method for hard boiling?
Regardless of domestic trials-and-errors, let's not forget the best outcome!
I love hard boiled eggs. I used to have an electric egg cooker that made perfect eggs every time. Now my daughter boils them in water on the stove and they come out just right too! I've yet to plant any flowers, and I want to do it soon, They do make gardening gloves so no need to get my hands dirty at all. Hopefully you'll be having a Great Easter with your family! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ma.
DeleteI'm intrigued. Why are your hard-boiled eggs green? Vegetarian chickens?
ReplyDeleteI would have used the broken spout excuse to drink all the wine at once.
Enjoy Easter with the family.
We've been advised not to mow the lawn for a while to help the butterflies population increase. Suits me.
God bless. Happy Easter.
There you go ... l'chaim!
DeletePS - The green egg was the result of a food coloring experiment gone wrong.
When I was a child, at Easter, mu mother used to prepare hard-boiled eggs and then paint the shells in various colours using food dyes. Sometimes some of the colouring went through the shell onto the eggs. It was still edible and safe. It was a tradition in days of old to paint boiled eggs for Easter. I understand it is an ancient Greek tradition dating back to the Resurrection.
DeleteGod bless.
Same here! We're we fortunate. 🤗
DeleteI just boil my eggs in a saucepan. I really like hard boiled eggs in my salads - 🥚 🍳
ReplyDeleteI do, too! Have you noticed the lack of them in restaurant Chef Salad lately?
DeleteIn my part of California, eggs are over $8.00 for a dozen. Many restaurants are now charging an egg surcharge of .50 an egg in a meal that requires eggs. “They” are saying the eggs are high because all our chickens are free range - no caged chickens and so that’s why they are higher. Huh? Doesn’t make sense to me.

DeleteI have a boiled egg every morning for breakfast, Myra. I simply get the water boiling in a small pot for 14 minutes, dump the hot water and fill the pot with cold from the tap. It works every time!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, and Happy Easter!
... and they don't stick? I'll have to try that again.
DeleteI think all eggs are gross unless they are binders for cakes or cookies. But I am also intrigued about the green boiled eggs
ReplyDeleteFood coloring in the Egglette. I may be 75, but still like to play with my food.
DeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Myra. Someone (I can't think right now) had a boiled egg maker on their post yesterday. I'll remember who in a bit. I have found that by boiling them for 10 min and immediately pouring the hot water off and filling the pot with ice water helps. I let them set for maybe 30 sec in the ice water and they seem to peel great. Get you some gloves and get to digging in that dirt. You will be so happy you did when you see all the beauty in your yard. I sure wish I was at the beach..I'll pretend along with you....Happy Thursday.
ReplyDeleteOkay. For you! 🫠
DeleteI remember....it was Wanda (Got a minute or Two)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll take a look-see.
DeleteYou are right - Christ is the one sure thing!
ReplyDeleteI tell you what - I love to read about your errors - they are so cute to me - but I bet not to you.
I watch all these kitchen hacks myself and then I don't remember them. I think I heard what Shug said about eggs too.
Oh, I don't mind laughing at myself. Thankfully, the pups don't mind eating my mistakes.
DeleteI renewed my passport recently since my license doesn't expire until October and it is not a Real ID yet. We are flying on the 25th. They won't care about your yard. Do it when you are ready. Sorry about the boxed wine. I use them often. I'm making deviled eggs for Easter and I always wonder if they cooked well enough to use them. I have a few methods but I know that last year I failed. They didn't want to peel for me. I will have a backup dozen of eggs if I have an issue.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
Happy Easter, Debby!
DeleteI have an electric egg cooker that does perfect boiled eggs, six eggs at a time. I've had it a long time and got it on Amazon. Wishing you a blessed Easter, Myra, and enjoy having Troy and Lois with you! Blessings!
ReplyDelete... and they don't stick to the shell? I'll have to go look.
DeleteHappy Easter! Love the green eggs! Did you have ham with that? Green eggs and ham ala Dr. Seuss? LOL. I just boil mine in a pan on the stove for about 12 minutes and then dump the hot water and pour ice on them and add cold water. Let them cool, unless you want to eat them hot? In that case, you are on your own. LOL. The ice helps to keep the shells from sticking. I also boil them with some salt in the water. That's supposed to do something. I don't have any fancy egg cookers. I have too many things in my cupboards already that I rarely if ever use. Just good old pots and pans work for me every time. Re: planting, get some garden gloves and old britches on and go have some fun. It's therapeutic. I bet you never made mud pies as a child. I'm sorry. You've missed out on the important parts of growing up. LOL. Have a blessed and wonderful Easter with your kids. Will the new great grandbaby be there too? Oh, squeeze her for me if she is. What a joy.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about Dr. Seuss ... too funny! Penelope's parents are taking her to her daddy's family this weekend, but I get to squeeze on her next Saturday.
DeleteEver since Hurricane Helene, our property it just a total mess, the exterior of our house is a mess (mold, etc.) and we can't seem to catch up. Plus, this awful drought is getting depressing. Everything seems to be dying. I am so over it. I am going to jump up and down with joy if it'll rain again.
ReplyDeleteCute egg coloring idea. I like it.
Hope y'alls Easter is harmonious and joyful. ✝️
Thank you so much! Would you like me to do a rain dance? ... or better, pray.
DeleteAnd your wine adventure made me laugh – those improvised juice containers are a classic case of making do. As for the eggs, I think we all have those kitchen experiments that don't go quite as planned, but hey, you’re making it work! I’m all about the Egglettes too – they might not be pretty, but they sure get the job done. Wishing you a peaceful, low-stress rest of the week! www.melodyjacob.com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Melody!
DeleteLove everything about this post Myra.
ReplyDeleteI do eat eggs every morning and seem to always have hard boiled eggs on hand too. I do my eggs in a low oven 275 - 325F in muffin tins for about half an hour then plunge them in an ice cube bath. The turn out with out any discoloration and peel really easy.
Your wine adventure made me smile. Talk about a fridge scavenger hunt...
Happy yard work
Blessed Resurrection Day
Sue
I've heard of that oven trick, but never knew anyone who's done it. I need to put that on my List!
DeleteI was told to add baking soda to the water that I boil eggs in than dunk them in a cold bath after they are cooked. Sometime they peel easy other times not. Jeremy says they use one of those egg cookers. I just don't know. Happy Easter & enjoy your time with your loved ones. I am trying to catch up a bit. That surgery was tough on this girl. But everyday I am better. It has been hard so I pray harder. Good to be here.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter! I haven't had eggs in a long time, I'm waiting for the price to come down. I love oatmeal and raisins for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Easter my friend. smiles
ReplyDeleteThe visit was great. I am stuck on the box wine, BUT just last week one did spring a leak, I had never had that happen.....
ReplyDeleteAnyway Sweet entry still under the weather or life but can still think some. Love ya
