While there's little of note, I'm so grateful for everyday blessings.
Even silly little victories. Know what I mean? (I talked about it here years ago.)
I don't know what it is, but I've come to loathe scheduling appointments or discussing medical concerns by phone. Nevertheless, I was blessed to speak with not one, but two pleasant and obliging humans without having to leave a message. Score!
Having had my fill of two sweet days never needing to leave the house, Thursday morning we took a ride out to a country estate sale. To a little home Time forgot. Initially I was put off by the 'aroma.' Not organic decay, exactly. More like an abode that had been shuttered, unattended for years.
While Tom enjoyed looking at several antique autos, I discovered an electric skillet -- new in box. Score #2! I don't know what, if anything, I'll use it for -- but he's been regretting that we gave ours to Goodwill years ago.
Yesterday we drove to the lake, to Troy and Lois' block party. They live on a pretty little peninsula with the nicest neighbors.
Tom and I agreed, Carlos' grilled burgers were some of the best we've ever eaten. Emily's (music) 70's and 80's playlist had me trying (and mostly failing) not to sing along.
Best of all, I got to love on gr-grandbaby, Penelope.

Yes, I wish I'd taken more photographs. Have any of y'all heard of something called .heic? Not me.
But when I tried uploading from my phone last night, the images wouldn't translate from (my preferred) .jpg format. Google says: "Photos are becoming HEIC instead of JPG due to newer Android versions (starting with Android 10) or iPhone's default setting change in iOS 11. HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format) offers smaller file sizes and comparable quality to JPG, but it's less widely compatible."
Boo on them! 'Just thought I'd throw this out in case someone else encounters this hiccup. (Technology's not my BF!)
Well, that's it from the retirement home (*grin*).

DeleteOh how precious to be able to hold Penelope! She is adorable!! We sang "Because He lives" in church this morning, and the 2nd verse starts out with "How sweet to hold a newborn baby and feel the pride and joy he gives..." I always choke up on that verse because I'd love to hold a newborn baby again so much! You are blessed. That kitchen floor is amazing! You can see all the way down to the wood underneath!! Oh yes, just imagine all the love that went into cooking in that kitchen! Or someone really paced the floor a LOT! LOL. I love my electric skillet. It's big enough to cook pancakes and also cook chicken and other stuff too big to fit in a regular skillet on the stove, plus it frees up the burners on the stove when you are cooking various pots of things. My mother used to cook most every meal in her electric skillet, so I grew up with that idea in my head! LOL. I enjoyed your post so much, but that picture of you and Penelope is a keeper for sure!!!

DeletePenelope is the sweetest little gal, Myra, and I know you loved every moment with her. That house would have creeped me out, too, with all those dolls still in their original boxes, and never loved by a child. Boo! Hiss! The electric skillet sounds like a winner though. ReplyDelete.heic? - I HATE SEEING THAT - I get that too - and it says you have to upload some thing and I am always worried about uploading things.
Don't get me started on calling doctors or appointments - you wait and wait and wait and when they try to connect to me - they usually disconnect me - it is so frustrating!
I have a certain seat in church too - lol.
And lastly enjoy the electric fry pan - I had one I got rid of too and wish I hadn't!
Someone sent me a tip that works! -- The .heic is under the camera settings; one can toggle 'on' or 'off' ... no uploading required. (At least for my Android.)
DeleteLOL...I meant to comment on the church pews. We once had a lady at our church that would make you move if you sat on her pew in her seat...Everyone knew that if a guest sat there, exactly what was going to happen.

DeleteMy techie told me HEIC will expand in future. Windows 10 can read it with the latest update. Also a software called GIMP can read them. Apple cell-phones can read them and others will too.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I still have an old photo album and have my photos paper based. I understand the idea will soon catch on. Especially with the new cameras with a new style film which you have to send to the chemist to develop and print.

DeleteHEIC sounds like an acronym for some derogatory, doesn't it? LoL. I have come across it but I usually open the images in a program that can convert to .jpeg or .png. Sounds like you had a wonderful few days. I am also proud of you for not making a face when you found someone in your pew! I don't have that much control oover my face...or my mouth for that matter.

ReplyDeleteI used to have an electric skillet too. It bit the dust and I seem to get along fine with out it. I sure don't have room for any more appliances.
I have to smile at the pew seating arrangement.
We usually sit in "Our perfect little row". The way the row is angled our son can sit on the end and see with his good eye much better. The row seats 6 and that's what we are most Sundays. Yesterday we had to sit in the row behind the usual one because Lauren was there. It threw everyone off..Not really, HaHa..

ReplyDeleteI am a good Methodist and our early service Sunday School members have "our" pew. Sometimes other people sit there and I do not give them the stink eye, but I might mentally think about it. And on Easter, forget it! TheHub and I wound up sitting on the back row because of interlopers! It did help that we sat by a young couple with an adorable 6 week old baby. Who can be really angry when seeing that?

DeleteOh, Myra, your Sunday Salad sounds like the perfect blend of simple joys and sweet moments! I absolutely love the way you find beauty in the little things – even a surprise pew swap! And Penelope is such a treasure; I can feel the warmth in that photo. I’ve never encountered a room of dolls like that, but now I can imagine how eerie that must have been! As for the electric skillet, I think it’s going to become a new favorite of yours, especially with Tom’s pancake cravings.

I love seeing those precious little ones. She is adorable. We had a quiet Easter too but we ate like kings for dinner with a prime rib we bought for Zach to prepare. It was ham & all the fixings for brunch with Jeremy & Brittany & kids and all of us. Except Colton who went to WW Wrestling in Vegas alone. He dreamed about it for years. He was so happy to go.
