October 25 is International Artists Day. Do you have a favorite artist? If so, tell us who and why.
Our home is filled not with paintings, but art photography -- everything from aerial views of San Gimignano to eclectic works by John Carlson
and Don Schimmel
Shortly after we married, Tom and I made it a point each Spring to attend the Fountain Hills Art show and bring home a souvenir. Nice fellow, always remembered us.
None are particularly valuable, but they make me happy.
Would you describe yourself as artistic? Elaborate.
Not even a little bit!
I was always the child who colored inside the lines, terrified of making a mistake.
What is a skill, task, hobby or a job you've done it so often you now have it 'down to a fine art.'
Someone once called me, "Queen of Omelets" so I'll go with that.
Since retirement, I enjoy playing with one-pot meals, food combinations.
Some wins, several losses -- but no-one's been to the ER on my account. Yet.

How often do you dine out? Fast food, fine dining or somewhere in between? Tell us about a less than stellar restaurant experience you've had recently.
We always enjoy eating out but have cut back maybe to twice a month. Middle of the road always works, but I'm a stickler for a sit-down sort of place where we can enjoy a conversation without having to raise our voices to be heard.
Substantial portions, too, please.
The only disappointment occurred last month when we took our friends from Arizona to a formerly favorite casual eatery. Despite being asked how we'd like our burgers cooked (each of us answered medium-rare), all four arrived well-done and tasteless.
Do you celebrate Halloween? To what extent? Are there trick-or-treaters where you live?
Not so much anymore.

That's not to say I wouldn't enjoy a good old apple bob again. Nothing like a germaphobe mom to kill the fun.

Shortly after getting a positive test result last month, I carelessly grabbed a bath towel -- not realizing my grandmother's hand mirror had been laying there. 7 years, hmmm?
(I'm still trying to disbelieve that old myth.)
Anyway.
Has anyone any idea what I might do with this?

Once I remove all the glass, I'm thinking of affixing a photograph of my grandmother as a young girl then laminating(?) it. (Remember, I'm not at all artistic!)

Hi Myra. Cracking up about no one going to the hospital because of your cooking, LOL It's good to be queen of something. We don't get any trick or treeters, either. Hope you have a nice end to October!

DeleteAhhh... I love that you and Tom purchase art each year at the art show. Joe and I did the same at Mayfaire. A nice tradition and wonderful memories. I make a good omelette too but would not consider myself a queen!! LOL Love you, my friend! xo

ReplyDeleteis photographs that Danny has taken over the years. Favorite paintings, especially are done by my Aunt Mary Jane (yes, that's where I get my middle name) and art we took from Mom's house after she passed.
I love that photo of your family featuring your grandmother, and I think your idea to put it into the broken mirror is brilliant. Hope you can find a professional to do it for you that is pleasing to you.

DeleteEven though I collect oil and watercolor paintings, I like art photography. I especially like the second photo in your collection. The art that is purchased should always make us feel - no matter the value.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I'm an extremely artistic person - - which generally makes me a misfit in society. My independent mode of thinking is unnerving to some people.
I think it's a GREAT idea to put a photo in the mirror frame. I wouldn't have thought of it. Now that's an artistic idea.
My house is so far hidden in the forest that trick-or-treaters would never find it. I only get nocturnal visits from coyotes.

DeletePlease no not laminate the picture of your grandmother as a young girl. Have the picture printed then do what you want to with it, but don't mess up the original.
ReplyDeleteWe have a ton of artwork in the house. I like to buy from relatively unknown artists, but admit I love art with faces or abstracts. TheHub prefers landscapes, so we have a few mixed in among my choices.
Of course, you're right ... I'd never chance ruining an original image. (I don't know that my grands wIll ever give a darn, but still ....)

DeleteI prefer photos over paintings, but have no favorite one. if i had to pick it would be Ansel Adams and the Ansel of Florida, Clyde Butcher. I doubt i could afford even a print from Clyde Butcher, check out his art....he lives in the Florida everglades.
ReplyDeletethe only frame art in our house is THE MadSnapper photos, you might know her. as for being artistic i am not except with cameras and playing with software. i think it would be perfect to put a copy of that wonderful photo on the mirror, but if I did it, it would not look professional. hope someone can tell you how to do it

ReplyDeleteMy master-chef expertise is burning toast. Why do they make toasters with "burnt to a cinder" settings. Toast is a slice of bread which is toasted - simple. It does not need settings any more than an ironed shirt is a shirt which has been pressed by a hot iron.
Ooops ... just burnt my wife's blouse ... the iron was too hot!

How I'd have loved to watch your perform on stage! I forgot to mention family photos, but they're all hung in the hallway and office.
DeleteOn the mirror/picture...be careful about laminating an old photo like that. It could ruin it. I would make a copy of the photo first and use that instead of the original. It may not need lamination anyway. I do like that idea. Positive test results? I missed that...are you okay? Praying it's nothing serious? Oh, I love omelets. Nothing too elaborate, but still I love them. And yes, I like to sit down and visit w/o too much noise and good food that's cooked right. We don't go out as often as we used to. Too expensive anymore! Oh well, so is buying groceries. LOL Can't win. Have a blessed rest of your week.

DeleteI probably "dine out" four or five times a week, but it's very casual and usually a very light lunch between appointments or running errands. I did have lunch out with a friend on Monday and we're going to try and make it a once a month event. Rarely do dinner out, unless it's a special occasion -- birthday celebration or out of town guest. Just too pricy and often the food is only okay.
