So, day before yesterday found me headed to a Montgomery neighborhood I'd not visited before. My fever pitch for estate sales has dimmed -- but previews for this one had me salivating.
Smiling, on account one of the posers in my 'Conversation Piece' book asked, "In what home anywhere would you most like to spend the night?"
Me, I'm more a Ben Cartright's Ponderosa sort --
but this 7,000-ish sq. foot beauty liked to take my breath away.
Since I can't put my feet up on the coffee table, guess I'll pass.
In the midst of faux grandeur, this toilet made me giggle.
Sometimes after the fact, I'll consult Google to see who lives/lived there. Sheer curiosity, yes; but also, to get a feel for whatever trinket I've brought home:
Placemats, because they match our area rug
and these -- brand new!
I'm cuckoo for socks!!!
Anyway.
From public information easily found online, this is a curious one.
The owner of record is only a few years older than my son, apparently divorced. He's moved to Georgia and purchased a bigger home -- more than 8,000 sq. feet!
But! Wouldn't you take along your clothing? Both the men's and women's closets were full, many items with the sales tag still affixed.
Inquiring minds want to know!
Oh, I wish I'd the talent to spin a novel -- (working title) Murder at Greystone.

Speaking of murder, I almost killed my little weed whacker this morning.
Tom might have suspected I gummed it up on purpose but he was too polite to say so.
Thankfully, it will live to munch another day.
Not so, it seems my Camry.
During its routine maintenance, our mechanic discovered a couple things needing remedied. Expensive things.
After much thought, we've decided to bite the bullet and see what's available at a price we can afford.
My least favorite thing to do, but like Rick used to say, it's the Cost of Doing Life.
Life is a very good thing, wouldn't you agree?

Deletei will be waiting for the Rant after you start looking for a car that is affordable. the house is gorgeous, but only to look at all the pretty things, no desire to live in a huge house, even with maids and a housekeeper. I have often said i wish I was rich enough to just take the imporant papers and walk out and leave the house as is and start over from scratch. maybe that is what they did.. as for staying in a home for a night, it would be a small log cabin on a mountain creek with temps in the 60's at night .

DeleteI love that house, how nice to go inside and see it. It would be worth of going to see it. Glad you found a few things you could use. I always like to think it doesn't matter the size of the house, but how comfortable it is. I like things comfy and cozy. Everything in my house is old and most would qualify as antiques, but there is truly nothing valuable. I have a lot of different tablecloths and place mats here. Most are seasonal. Right now I'm decorating for fall but am sad to see summer go. I love being warm. Hope you are enjoying some cooler weather soon. Love, ma . I do believe that life is wonderful!

DeleteI am a Ponderosa kind of gal too. I like to be comfortable wherever I am. No fancy stuff for me. Sounds like this couple had more money than brains or love. Sad story. I do love the placemats! Very classy! I am sorry about the weedwhacker. Did you ever buy the one I told you about? That isn't it, is it? Just wondering. I am sorry about your Camry. Will you buy another one? We've never bought a "foreign car", but sometimes I think we ought to. They seem to last forever. I pray you find a good and reasonable replacement. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's the same weed whacker as you got for John. It's been a gem -- that is, until I tried taking it into the heavy brush. Thankfully, Tom was able to get all the disgusting heavy stuff back out.
DeleteIt's a gorgeous home, but I would feel miserably uncomfortable in it. That fancy bathroom alone would have me eternally confused. And that Home Depot toilet was strangely out.of.place.
