I've always been fascinated by names. Persons, their pets, even streets and villages.
One of my new favorite writers, Keri Beevis, recently fed my fascination on Facebook, citing a fellow author's post.

My personal favorite is #6 - Sweet Revenge
While it's unlikely her books will be deemed a "Classic", I'm thoroughly enjoying Keri's 'new to me' British psychological thrillers. I recently finished The Sleepover and downloaded The Summer House (free on Prime - woot!).

Not a fan of cozy mysteries, but some of the names are too cute. Beau is named after Beau Beaumont in books. now i can't remember the authors name, I have to shake my head and wait for the name to come to the top of my 8 ball brain. this is twice in one day. I WILL be paying attention to names now, of course.
Hold on! Back now. I asked why was Tarzan named Tarzan. Turnes out it is a combo of two words Tar and Zan which means white skin. HOO HA! this is fun
PS I am now hooked on all books that have K-9 service dogs in there, have read several series and they all have service dogs.

ReplyDeleteMy first book "VISIONS" took a lot of time to get started. I had a sketched out idea of the story in my head but could not start until I chose a name for the central character - Father Ignatius. I needed a name that was not common, memorable, and with a Christian but unusual background. You will also note that I never gave the character a surname or described him; leaving it to the reader's imagination as to how he looks like.
Other characters, (Mrs Davenport the housekeeper), had to have a surname befitting the period (1950s) and the person's background. For example, Theodore Luxton-Joyce was the right name for an upper class posh Englishman from Scottish decent.
All I need now is the readers !!!

Myra, I didn't choose the names of my characters, they "came" to me from the Lord. I just ran with them. And I do hope any readers here that are not familiar with The Glade Series and Adventures in The Glade will look up Martha Orlando on Amazon. I'd love to make new friends and fans!

ReplyDeleteYou made me chuckle tonight...both memes made me laugh. What if???? That's a crazy thought to ponder...actually, I am a character in a book..."Anne of Green Gables". LOL My mother named me Pamela Anne (Anne with an "E") after that character because she had red hair and so did I and my mother loved those books so much! So there you have it! LOL.

I've never heard of that author before but will have to check out the books written by her or him. I love to read and never get tired of it. There are so many good books out there.I' ve been reading a couple of Debbie Mawcombers books. They are delightful light reading always! Hope you continue to read and find good books to recommend. ReplyDeleteI was a late starter on reading, but since I started in my 50s I have read thousands of books. Sadly for me I have digressed to the short Westerns. I must find a good BAldacci, Grisham, Clancey or hundreds of others and dread an involved novel. ;-) BUT, but I did crack up on the meme:
