More Etc-ering

aka ...

(cue theme song)

So, when I think Good the first thing that pops in my mind is #1 son.  Thanks for indulging me while I brag?

For Chloe's 25th birthday, Troy called in a big favor.

They got to attend last week's SEC Championship Game in Atlanta from one of the owner suites.

Best.Parents.Ever!

Of course, I have to add food to my Good list!
Since life's so uncertain, I've given myself a 'Carb Holiday' all month.

... and what's the best carb ever?
Mine was the Zelda:
Bianca sauce, Italian sausage, Gorgonzola and Mozzarella cheeses

Not until our server brought our pies out did I have an 'aha' moment.  See, years ago in Italy I discovered I wasn't so fond of their pizza.  Come to find out, when MPK advertises 'traditional' Italian pizza, they're referring to the super thin crust ...almost like a wafer.

I thought Tom would be disappointed -- after all, he's a deep dish, Chicago-style fan.  But no, he really enjoyed his.  New favorite eatery!

I see today's National Christmas Card Day.
No, I'm not sending cards this year.

Not only have postage costs become absurd, the USPS recently earned a spot on my Naughty list.

Without going into unnecessary detail, I recently sold and mailed an article of jewelry (given years ago by "Mr. Wrong").  Not only was it not delivered on time, at day's end the carrier must have been tired and just brought it back to the PO, marked "Delivered."

Imagine my surprise when I had a text from the buyer telling me the tracking information shows Delivered -- to a PO Box in Milwaukee.  She doesn't have a PO Box!

Thanks to our friendly Postmaster (think Mayberry-esque) it all was all resolved -- but not without a fistful of stress.

.... And what does one do when they're stressed?
I'm a little old for a lollipop, but took myself to Target for this.
You know you're old when Peppermint soap makes you feel warm and fuzzy.  Simple pleasures.

.....which brings us to the final episode  -- Ugly.

Some of y'all may remember a while back when I talked about how my mirror's reflection is different than what's shown in photos.

Dismayed!  A friend shared something from church on her FB page -- and there I am last Sunday, looking for all the world like an apparition straight out of Dickens' Christmas Carol.

Needless to say, I've bought a can of "Golden Spell" mousse and we'll see if it and a smidgen of blush won't add some warmth to my skin's tone.

Meanwhile ...
this excerpt from a book I read makes me go, Hmmmm.

"She'd read somewhere that you only truly saw what someone looked like in the first few minutes of meeting them; then after that it was only an impression, colored by what you thought of them."

What do you think?

Good afternoon now ... God bless!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Ahhhh that Troy what a great dude.... An amazing thrill for Chloe (& friends and family, knowing!)
I did fall in love with an Italian Pizza in Sicily, I guess that counts as Italian (?). It was a thin crust . But me'n Tom agree on the thick crust over all. LOL
Funny thing in the past few years we have 'lost' letter containing gifts (checks) and they are never returned nor cashed, we are finding less trust in USPS. But glad you had a local P-master to help solve the mystery. YEP STRESS I BET!
I keep thinking of the last statement. That does sound right, still thinking.
    Love from Florida!!!
Sherry & jack glad you allow us anon in!

    1. I agree, thanks! Troy takes after my dad in that regard; anything for his little girls.

  4. Is that peppermint soap edible?

I like pizza thin crust. Although I don't mind thick base if it is not too thick. Sometimes the base is so thick (about 1 inch high) that you end up just eating bread.

The Postal Service here has been on strike on and off for a while. Often the postage costs more than the Christmas card itself. I now just send e-mails to everyone at Christmas and the postage money saved goes to charity.

I don't fully understand the last statement. I am thick. I try not to make an instant decision when I first meet someone; but we're all prejudiced in some way. I cautiously wait a while before deciding on an individual. Having interviewed many people as part of my job instant decisions can often be wrong. I've had good loyal people working for me who at first I was a little hesitant of. I remember being told, "don't have him working for you, he will be very difficult to manage". I took a chance and employed him - he turned out one of my best employees and became a friend. He left me on promotion to a better job; which pleased me no end as I recommended him.

    God bless.

    1. Great idea about redirecting the postage $ to charity! Great testimony about pre-judging someone. I was thinking of physical appearance alone, but so much more contributes.

  5. I think I can agree with your quote from the book. Yes. Love you, my beautiful friend!! xo

  6. Wow, that game gift was really special indeed! I bet they had a blast! I hope their team won! The pizza looks great. We only get to have Domino's here, so anything different looks really interesting to me, no matter what the crust is! LOL. Wow, so glad the package delivery issue was resolved. I know the cost of postage just blows my mind. It costs more to send a little gift to someone than the cost of the gift itself! I have to limit my card sending as well. I mainly just send to people that we don't see on social media all the time. Old friends/relatives who don't do facebook, etc. but I want to stay in touch. Maybe a few others, but I am having to crunch the numbers a bit more this year. Now, you are beautiful...both inside AND outside...so don't go getting down on yourself. I know, I have not been pleased with pictures of myself lately and I've been having a lot of hair issues as well. It must be our "age" is starting to catch up with us, but I refuse to give in to it. Just keep smiling and the world smiles with you. Frown, and you frown alone. So, according to that quote, first impressions really do make a big difference in how people perceive us. Wow...gotta be on top of our game all the time I guess...but our real friends love us no matter what we look like on a given day. They know the true heart of the person and that is what really matters when all is said and done. "Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart." I Samuel 16:7. And what God knows about us is more important than what man thinks. The end. Good night. Love you.

  7. Don't even get me going on the "self" issues, sigh...and as for first impressions, yep, prob. I have had 2 very important job interviews the last few days, (not that I am leaving my current employment, but the jobs/promotions are for this employer) and I often wonder what folks think etc. The questions I have been asked require me to be brutally honest and frankly, I might come across as such, backend of a jack rabbit. Just saying, grin. We all know I cannot be diplomatic--as I am no yes man.

And I thought about the Christmas cards and wasn't going too, because honestly, last yr was a disaster in that department, with Liam passing away 2 weeks prior to Christmas and all---I sincerely don't remember if I did send them or not and I am bit embarrassed to say so.

    1. Oh please, don't even be embarrassed. You (and Dave) are pretty remarkable having experienced the worst thing a parent can bear. Thinking of you and lifting prayers.

  8. Oh yum, I like all pizza, thick or thin. I'm not particular but like it all. Your son is a good son and husband too. He must have learned it from his mother, I'm thinking. I do send cards out and consider it a privilege to do so. I've never had much trouble with the mail, and I hope it continues that way. I'm wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas! Love, ma

  9. Hahahaha! My mother found me that tree in a delightful shop on St. Armand's Key back in the 80's ... it's a favorite!

  11. We’ve given up on sending cards too, except to Kaitlin’s mother in law, who’s almost 90. We prefer Christmas letters and are working on ours now. ❤️

PS If we send something important through the mail we always pay for a tracking number. Is that why they could figure out what happened to your package?

    2. Yes, thank goodness! I've never had to question anything before -- but he (Postmaster) was able to go look at the scans they take of every parcel and determine where I'd originally addressed it. Neat tools!

  12. Well, it's no coincidence, then, that I mailed all my Christmas cards today, Myra! Sorry you won't be doing likewise, but I certainly understand with the soaring cost of everything. I came so close to skipping it this year, but God nudged me in the other direction. :)
The pizza looks great, and I'm so glad your son and family got to see the SEC championship game. I would have loved to be there!
    Blessings!
