Welcome back to Wednesday's Hodgepodge!
(Thanks, Joyce!)
What's one part of your everyday routine you'd be better off without?
Ouch!
Surely there's better uses of my time than to indulge in a mid-afternoon nap? But it feels sooo good. Kindergarten got it right!
October 5 is/was National Do Something Nice Day. So, what did you/will you do?
While at Bible study, I signed up to help distribute lunch (today) to the County's first responders. You know, a 'thank you for all you do!' community initiative.
In this season of uncertainty it's nice to know we can be certain of their help when needed.
What question do you hate to answer?
I'm basically an open book.
If, however, something borders on TMI I'll politely opt out.
Do we have control over technology or does it have control over us? In that same vein, have you watched The Social Dilemma (available on Netflex); and if so, what did you think?
Call me hopelessly naive. But no, I don't want to accept (that) our free will has been compromised by tech monoliths.
I don't want to come off as an ostrich with her head in the sand, but this documentary doesn't sound particularly appealing. Perhaps if my son or granddaughters were still young(er) .....
Tom disagrees; and now I'm intrigued to hear what Joyce and other Hodgepodgers think!

What are three small things that make your day better?
That first intoxicating cup of French Roast.
Your thoughtful, sometimes funny comments on what I've posted.
Settling into the recliner at day's end -- when little Grace jumps onto my lap, and Macie Ann huddles alongside my hip.
Insert your own random thought here.
Speaking of movies! In between studies, we Bible study ladies decided to have a pot-luck yesterday and watch a movie.
I'd never heard of I Still Believe, but now I want to download it. Those of us of a 'certain age' may remember boo-hooing at 1970's Love Story ... but I don't think it holds a candle to this true story of love and loss. Two thumbs up!
Be good ... stay safe!
Hugs, Myra

What would we do without our first responders??? Glad to know that you and your group are taking them lunch today, Myra. They need all the support we can offer them, especially in these turbulent and negative times we are going through.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're having a great time with your Bible study group, too.
Blessings!
I know! It does my heart good when our local law enforcement folks are given the 'atta boys' they deserve ... especially from the little kids who wrote thank you notes.
Deletethe little things, 1st cup of coffee every day, we talk about that a lot.. not having it when we wake up. Bigs big brown eyes staring into mine, emails and comments from e friends and text from a few friends...
ReplyDeletethe one thing i would be better off without is the amount of time I spend on the internet, which takes me to the question does tech rule or do I rule. right now technolgoy is king in my life, which is better than TV which is ruling Bob's life. that is ALL we do, except for riding the dog and swimming at the YMCA each morning. that is the extentof our lives right now..
so where is the social distance and mask for that pot luck????
Why didn't I think to say our girls' big brown eyes. (Their super powers!)
DeleteOOPS on the social distancing and naked faces. Bubble or not, I think sometimes we simply forget.
I don't drink coffee but I feel that way about my diet pepsi - that first long drink at 5:05 a.m. is sooo good. My hubby is the coffee drinker and every night before we go to bed he says, "I get to wake up and drink coffee!"
ReplyDeleteMy son used to be that way with his Mountain Dew. Your hubby's a funny fellow!
DeleteYou look great in the picture; stop selling yourself short Myra! You are beautiful inside and out! How fun with the pot luck and the movie!! Neat too how you will be serving lunch to first responders! I know its always a gratifying thing to do things like that.
ReplyDeleteI heard about Social Dilemma and I'm going to watch it when I have sometime. Another blogger who I don't think you follow watched it and was amazed when she added up her screen time how much she was spending on social media. There is some truth in what is said in the documentary and I also heard (true or not I'm not sure) that the creators of Facebook like button and other social media platforms (not Mark Zuckenberg but those working below him) actually don't allow their children to have any social media input or accounts. I tried keeping off of Facebook for a few days and found myself more productive :)
betty
Aw, thank you so much! Interesting about those 'insiders' not letting their children fall prey. Maybe we'll watch it after all.
DeleteLooking across the table at my Sherry whether it is over cereal or Grits and eggs, starts my day. Yep, in my oinion technology does sorta take over. I actually saw a kid texting as he rode his bike, when we walked yesterday.\
ReplyDeleteI am amazed if we pass close to a store Sherry gets a text asking if we enjoyed our visit to xxx store, and we haven't even stopped. Yep THEY (who ever they are) keep up with us.
This is always a sweet visit. I typed the last two sentences and waited awhile. I started to retype and there is popped up. Another slow day here, so I guess I will go out and wait on the cat's food to arrive. LOL
Sherry & jack playing house.
YIKES on the kid texting and riding. Then again, maybe I'm jealous. Tom used to get those same merchant messages on his phone. That's just creepy!
DeleteHow nice to be a part of a Bible study with wonderful women you enjoy being with. three things I'm thankful for every day are my faith, family and friends. When I keep my eyes focused on the important things, all the rest seems to easily fall together. Hope you have a wonderful week. Your kind comments always make my day. Thank you !
ReplyDelete... as do yours, Ma! Keeping our eyes focused on what's important. Yep, you've hit that proverbial nail square on its head.
DeleteWhat's one part of your everyday routine you'd be better off without?
ReplyDeleteSliding down the banister rail. Hitting that wooden ball at the end of the banister is really painful.
Do we have control over technology or does it have control over us?
It has control over us. Especially when the computer decides to misbehave and sends stupid messages like: system error and some stupid number. Like system error 404. Why do we put up with this? I would not put up with a kettle that refuses to boil the water, or a toaster who likes to burn my bread. Why do I put up with computers who misbehave. I've finally found their weakness. They are useless at kick-boxing.
God bless, Mevely.
Of course, that makes perfect sense! Once again, dear Victor, you've made me laugh out loud.
DeleteWhat a great thing to do today! Please let us know how you were received by the first responders! I'm sure they loved seeing you come with lunch!! Interesting questions today! Your Bible study group looks great! I miss our church potlucks and hope we start them up again soon! Technology... can't live with it and sure can't live without it. We just need to take care, but our info is already out there. Not much we can do about it!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, yesterday's turn-out was a bit slow. Then someone phoned the Department and learned 18 individuals were either out sick or working the graveyard, so we delivered those. The lady said, "You've no idea how much this means." Felt good!
DeleteI love bible studies too. And I think that taking a nap is one of the important things you do!
ReplyDeleteThanks for that, Sandie!
DeleteIt's so wonderful your ladies group got together for dinner. My GLOW group hasn't met is so long because of the C19, hopefully it will be soon. I heard an interview with Jeremy Camp about his story, it really touched my heart.
ReplyDeleteI'd not heard of him (Jeremy) before, but yes. His story was so impactful!
DeleteThat first image - in the tree with all the autumnal critters - really made me smile!
ReplyDeleteA daily routine I'd be better off without?
As soon as I get up I clean the cat's two litter boxes, clean their food dishes, and get them fresh food and water (separate dishes for each cat). It doesn't sound like much, but seems to take longer every day.
National Do Something Nice Day??
Heck, I'm nice all the time..... (*smile*)
Questions I HATE to answer - -
How old are you?
Are you gay?
Three things that make my day better?
Valium, whiskey, unconsciousness
(just jesting...)
A cup of tea, a good book, purring cats
The trailer to "I Still Believe" looks good. Never heard of it before.
DeleteMe, too. Soon as I rise, it's get the girls out, then fed and watered in their respective bowls. Glad to hear you liked the trailer! If you watch the film I hope you'll let me know your impressions.
DeleteI came back to Hodge Podge. One blog for one blog hop the other for another. I have so much jewelry and other things. They remind me, even the hubby these days. So I sold a pair of leggings at Poshmark and plan to put up more things. It is a nice simple way to sell. The hubby prints the label while he is at work and then I wrap the item in tissue paper and add a handwritten thank you and off it goes in the post office bin of prelabeled items. Some of the personal questions people ask blow me away! Your image with you and the critters is so cute. Love the ladies pot luck.I am excited reading the different answers at Hodge Podge. Rebekah will be searching for me. Working in the garage again, she's like the CIA op but darn she gets stuff done! HUGS to you. Have a great rest of your week. LOVE and HUGS
ReplyDeleteI need to give serious consideration to ridding myself of 'stuff'! Love that you include hand-written notes with your packages. Little gestures like that mean a lot.
DeleteI watched I Still Believe and found it a wonderful love story--and it's a true story.
ReplyDeleteI too love it when people respond to my posts. It's what keeps me blogging!
Enjoy these autumn days!
So glad to know when someone feels the same. Thanks, Willow!
DeleteLove that you all did that for the first responders. Good on you! As for the techie stuff...I'm sort of in the middle, but I do think some people are completely controlled by it. When my son and his family come around, they barely speak to any of us because they spend all their time on their phones or tablets.
ReplyDeleteExactly ... it's the same way at my son's house. I sorta get it; not so much Tom or my DIL's mother.
DeleteThanks for the movie recommendation. I've seen the trailer but forgot to pursue watching it. Now I've been reminded!
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll like it, Barbara!
DeleteLoved the responses, Myra, I heard that was a great movie, my daughter loved it.
ReplyDeleteAren't those afternoon naps the best, they keep me going until I find my recliner at night too!
What a wonderful idea to support our first responders, we too are so thankful for them.
Thank you for visiting and for your sweet comment, good luck with the houseplants, they will reward you in any ways.
Sue
Thank you so much, Sue! Fingers crossed!
DeleteThank you Myra for the many smiles. I hope your having a lovely day, friend.
ReplyDeleteWhy thanks! In fact, you just made it a little nicer. :) Hope "THEY" are treating you okay.
DeleteI love that first graphic! It's so cheerful and friendly. 🙂❤️
ReplyDeleteIsn't it, tho? My happy place. :)
DeleteI'm afraid if I nap I won't sleep at night. That was nice of you to distribute lunches. I love your three things. So how come no masks?
ReplyDeleteOops! :)
DeleteNot sure if it's a good thing, but I've never had a hard time falling asleep.
Oh, no no no. Your nap isn't a waste of time. Taking a nap is GOOD for you. I sure wish I could do it. Unfortunately, it's a skill I never acquired, but Mike was a big believer in checking his eyelids for pinholes every day.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, but I don't think I'm ready to watch a movie about love and loss just yet. Maybe someday.
Take care, and have a super weekend, dear lady.
Totally understandable, Susan. You take good care of yourself, too! Please.
