Good morning!
Again, I have to thank Facebook for this week's prompt. A couple of y'all may already be familiar with The Hartsocks' Photography page? She -- a divorced mother of 5 -- meets a handsome detective. In short order they fall in love, marry and have 4 more babies of their own. (An only child, I've always been super attracted to large families.)
Narrated by mom Lindsay, their posts are almost always entertaining. Filled with G-rated -- no, make that PG* -- anecdotes and photos -- I keep waiting for Hollywood to sit up and realize, there's would be a great post-Brady "Brady Bunch."

Anyway! The other day, Lindsay asked readers, "What are some simple things that you should have known, but didn't?" To illustrate, she admitted becoming alarmed by the flashing "E" on the car's dashboard. Despite the gas gauge showing full, she feared they were going to run out of gas. ("No, because you're driving East.")
One comment in particular cracked me up: "I thought the wind chill factor was windshield factor and believed that was the temperature on the windshield."
Reflecting, I've little room to laugh. Other than the red-onion-purple-onion business …
Many years ago I returned from the supermarket feeling pretty darn smug for finding steaks with "no white in them!"

What are some simple things that you (or someone you know) should have known ….. but didn't?

Duke took their girlie sister game as a personal attack and really, really wanted to "dance" with them, too. But Lyla kept telling him over and over again, "you're not even dressed! You have to put some clothes on if you want to spin with us! YOU'RE ONLY WEARING YOUR PENIS!" 🤣😪
this rarely happens to me, but I have drawn a total blank on answering the question. I think the story blew my circuits when I saw 9 children in one family...

DeleteI am totally lacking when it comes to FB but it does sound like a delightful and true to life family. I have always loved large families and am very thankful for having my 7 children. I really wish I had written down all the things they said when they were younger. Children give us so many wonderful reasons to laugh. One of the things I did learn over time, but should have known, was to never say never. My daughter and I were just talking about that yesterday.

Isn't that the truth! Unlike when I was growing up, it's neat how parents use social media to document their kiddos sayings. Sort of like a virtual baby's book!

ReplyDeleteI'm sure I'll remember some later cause I know that I have them, but nothing is coming to me at the moment. Mine are usually related to something mechanical because that is definitely not my forte :)

DeleteI was not familiar with them before your wrote about them here. I have taken notice!! Gosh, thinking... I once cleaned a whole peck of hot peppers with my bare hands and afterwards, if I closed my eyes, I could envision flames coming from them. Nothing cooled the heat until soaking them in milk. Who knew hot peppers did that to your hands?
ReplyDeleteIndeed, who's have guessed? Were it not for my mother peeling/roasting Hatch chili with rubber gloves, I wouldn't. Recently I learned my DIL did the same thing as you. OUCH!
DeleteOne thing I should have known but didn't ... at the gym we have a little step on which we practice going up and down ... up and down. So I decided to do this exercise at home on the stairs. It took me ages to go up to the toilet.

DeleteAs an "only child" who came from a dysfunctional home with an extremely violent father, I've always been highly suspicious of large, perfect, happy, "Brady Bunch" type families.

In all honesty, I can't think of any simple things that I should have known. I'm sure they exist but I'm drawing a complete blank.
I can think of a helluva lot of complicated things that I WISH I had known......
True, that! I've always been envious of big families and even as a child, used to study their behavior. I've been fooled plenty of times, but the Hartsocks' kids seem to genuinely LIKE one another.

ReplyDeleteOkay, I have said it too often, I should have known my brother and sisters REAL names. WE bought a car once and I could not open the gas tank cover. A sweet girl passing tapped it and it opened. Probably many more, but I am tired and my NNNNnnnn does not work unless I HIT it.

PS: On the trip today I should have known to use the toilet when I had the chance,,, We got stuck in traffic just a little later. LOL
