Hodgepodge: The Finale

1.  What has been the highlight of your summer so far?

Hands-down, my excursion back to Florida last month … part sentimental journey, part 'getting to know you.'    Man, if you've ever considered -- even a little bit -- hooking up in person with another citizen of Blogland … just do it!   Thank you Sandra, thank you, Terri!

2.  What do you wish you'd done more of this summer?  Less?

I'm kicking myself for not having joined the 'Y' earlier.   Prior to last week, there's no way in "h.e. hockey sticks" I'd have ever used 'fun' and 'exercise' in the same sentence.

Less?  I should say feeding my face, but I've enjoyed every stinkin' carb that's come my way.  Nope, no regrets.

3.  (What's) something you're looking forward to on your September calendar?

Grand #1 is licensed to wed!

4.  Best/favorite book you've read this summer?

A Killer's Mind.  No way I saw that ending coming!

5.  Share something positive, encouraging or uplifting here.

Since the first time I saw Rogers & Hammerstein's Carousel, I've loved this song!

6.  Insert a random thought.

Still shaking my head at my recent good fortune.

Remembering my own dismal experiences in high school, I wasn't particularly excited to be entering the Y's locker room last.  What a surprise to realize there wasn't a judgmental soul in the bunch … no, 'Miss Willer, you're not trying hard enough.'   All shapes and sizes … one fellow is 91 years young!
We had a substitute instructor last Friday that brought her boom box (do they still call them that?) and we carried on for an hour to the likes of ABBA, Frank Valli/4 Seasons … and yes, the Village People (complete with the appropriate moves - ha!)

Being in the water, it didn't feel like I was exercising  … but whoa, I paid for it that night and the next day.  Baby steps!

* * *

Have a wonderful day, y'all!  … Be safe!

Hugs,
Myra

  1. Agreed! I've had the pleasure of meeting a couple of blog pals in person, and it was great. They were exactly the same in person as they present themselves on their blogs. It was great.

Good for you for joining the Y. Our Medicare plan offers free membership to a number of local gyms, and I've thought about joining one a few times. That counts for something, right? :)

"You'll Never Walk Alone" has got to be one of my all-time favorites. (Now, I'm sure I'll be singing and humming it all day.)

  4. Congratulations and best wishes to your Grand #1. God bless them always.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mevely for playing that Gerry and the Pacemakers song. It brought back fond memories.

I may have mentioned on my Blog my friend, Father Francis Maple, who sings to raise funds for charity. He has raised over £1m over the years. I made a video of his version of this song:

    1. Thanks, Victor! Ya, in the 60's I was a big fan of all things British. Ferry Cross the Mersey was a favorite.
Fr. Francis' voice and the tempo is so enjoyable. The video scenery? Wow.

  5. I too got to meet a fellow blogger, but it was she who did the traveling. I was so happy to meet her! Best wishes to your granddaughter! So happy for you about the Y and glad you overcame those anxieties. I recently joined the senior center to try to get some exercise in.

  7. Ahh, glad you are enjoying the Y. Sherry and my sister did it one winter and loved it.
BUT I gotta tell you I enjoyed the song. I had to get my Sherry to get me in line with the words and all was right with the world. Loved the old couple dancing. WE gotta learn to dance!!

Love ya, ALWAYS enjoy this visit!

  8. Such great things in your summer...and now your fall! A wedding! Yay!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed those carbs. LOL
I've always wanted to try water aerobics or whatever it's called. With the pain in my feet and the arthritis in my ankles I can't do anything with a lot of impact and thought that would be a good option, but even if I found a place, with my new job I have no idea when I'd find the time.

    1. Ugh, but those carbs are catching up to me. Big time. I suspect your new job's going to offer lots of (unrealized) exercise!

  9. It was so fun meeting you in person, Myra!! It is one of my favorite things to do and our dear friends here are just as real in person as in the blogs. Love you, my friend!! This was a bittersweet final HP.

  12. You're right - being in the water doesn't initially feel like exercise, but you can sure feel it the next day.
Knowing that a ninety-year-old was there gives me hope and inspiration. Hell, I FEEL like I'm 90.

    BTW
I like ABBA - - and Gerry & the Pacemakers

  13. I know you're excited about your granddaughter's wedding, Myra! And exercise? Oh, yes, it's so important, especially as we get up there in age. I love going to the gym.
    Blessings!

    1. I don't know that I'll ever 'love' going to exercise, but you're right. Up until her stroke, my mom was right there at the senior center or in front of the "exercise lady" on television.

  14. I wonder if I would enjoy the Y? Hmmmm something to ponder. Loved listening to the song! One of my favorites from back in the day. Congrats to the g-daughter. A wedding is something to look forward to. Ours is a couple years away yet. (Thank God) Sorry to see the Hodgepodge ending!

  15. Florida was one of my stops on my summer road trip. The weather was so hot and humid, but we had a grand time doing mostly inside things.

Excellent song choice. Back in the day Gerry and the Pacemakers was one of my favorite groups and "You'll Never Walk Alone" is such an inspirational tune. I didn't see Carousel until the late 80s, but it's now one of my favorite musicals.
