G'morning friends!
This week's edition is missing a few bullet points, yes. I've not been listening to or reading or watching anything noteworthy … and last I checked, there's nothing fascinating going on in the kitchen.
Instead, I'm …
Concerned
Back in March, when the community water rep came out to turn on our utilities, he volunteered (that) he was starting a lawn business on the side. Would we be interested? Because his quote was super reasonable, we've had Dennis out every two weeks.
I knew it was coming, darn it. Tom grew tired of paying that money each month and purchased a riding mower last week.
Because Dennis is such a nice and respectful young man - working to better his family - I've dreaded telling him we'll no longer require his services. But before I could do so, he phoned Tom last week. Are y'all ready for this? Out of left field, -with no explanation- Dennis asked to borrow $400. (Might as well have been $4,000!) Awkward.
Of course, Tom explained he didn't have it, but now I'm concerned what sort of mess Dennis has gotten himself into. And why should that impact us? All's I could do is give it up to God at this morning's services.
Grateful for
Tom's accompanying me whenever I spot an estate sale! Aside from a few baubles, we're basically starting over with Christmas décor. Rather than go out and buy a few random boxes of bulbs, I'd like to begin building a collection of previously-loved ornaments.
Loving
Isn't it ironic? Oftentimes, when you give up searching for something -- when you least expect it -- another, better something falls in your lap.
The bar stools we brought from Arizona are far too high and impractical for this house … but I wasn't keen on spending money for new ones. Then, day before yesterday I'd an hour to kill before swim class and spotted a little 'hole in the wall' thrift shop. Except for weighing a ton, these are definitely 'fanny approved' and the wooden backs match our kitchen cabinets perfectly.
Pondering
What do you do when you can't sleep?
Because I'm partial to flights of fancy, I've begun making lists. Lists of my favorite things, that is … 10 for each letter of the alphabet.
And, I've discovered this little exercise is harder than I'd have guessed! Nevertheless, I'll be sharing 'A-B-C' in the next few days. Hope you'll stop by!
Looking forward to
My upcoming hair cut. So blessed to have found a gal who does a good job … at half what I was paying in Arizona!
The first thought when I look in my mirror? "Yikes! I'm beginning to look just like the rottweiler."
(Some of you might 'get' that. Or, you can click HERE.)
* * *
Whoops. On that note, I'd better go wash my mouth out with a nice glass of wine. (This is Sunday o'dark thirty after all!)
Have a beautiful day … stay safe!
Hugs,
Myra

I would never loan anyone money. I have in the past paid for groceries for a girl I worked with, she did not ask, I just did it. and have bought shoes for homeless. it is a good thing you have the mower and it is good for hubby to do his own grass, gives him something to do and is some exercise.. of course that is My Opinion.
ReplyDeleteyou do not and never could look like The Rotteweiler from the UK.. when I can sleep I quote bible verses I memorized years ago to shut my mind down. waiting to hear the lists. the bar stools are perfect. I would use them here, maybe I need to wander in thrift stores. ours are worn out and they are only 27 years old
Aw, thank you! Yup, my hair's just long enough to begin that annoying little flip, and I can't help but compare.
DeleteOh my! on the lawn/water guy. It sounds as though it's good timing with getting the riding mower. I love thrift shops. You really never know just what you'll find. We have some goodwill shops in our area and I like to look around just for that reason. I found a match to the chairs for my dining room table one time and I treasure it. Hope you find some special Christmas things to fill your house. I had to smile at the picture of you ! Glad you found a great place to get your hair done! Happy Monday !
ReplyDeleteThat matching chair's a 'wow' find, for sure! I love the atmosphere thrift shops … the possibilities!
DeleteRegarding the lawn man, something similar happened to my mother. She, too, refused to loan the guy money, even though she had known him for years and found him trustworthy. Long story short, the man understood, but no longer does work for Mom.
ReplyDeleteOh, and isn't it great when you find the perfect hairdresser? I adore mine!
Blessings, Myra!
Thanks for sharing your mom's story! Unlike me, I doubt Tom's given it a second thought, but I'm going to share your comment with him.
DeleteI also have trouble sleeping, I like your the way you're doing a 'favorite things' list. I'm going to try it!!
ReplyDeleteOh Mary, I hope you will! My ABC's are going up tomorrow.
DeleteI think it was a VERY wise decision for Tom to get a riding mower. It's a waste of money to pay someone every month.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with the rural area where I live is that a riding mower won't cut it for me. I need tractors, plows, field hands, and the grace of God. It's raining hard this morning and the "weeds" have grown fifteen feet while I was writing this.
As for not being able to sleep.....
I've had insomnia since I was twelve and it's gotten progressively worse. I usually lie awake counting all of my problems. That keeps me occupied until dawn....
There's an empty 2-acre parcel next door they're trying to control with tractors and the like. Sure is pretty when it's done, but I sincerely feel for you, Jon!
DeleteThat is weird about the lawn guy. I too wonder why he would ask "strangers" for a loan. Wise for Tom to say he didn't have it. I like the idea of getting Christmas ornaments at estate sales. Certainly something to talk about when sharing the tree with friends. I make lists at night too; looking forward to your A, B, C in the days ahead.
ReplyDeletebetty
I never thought about (the ornaments) becoming a conversation piece. Nice thought, Betty!
DeleteYears ago, when I couldn't sleep I used to count sheep in my head. Now, with all the Health and Safety legislation, I do risk assessments instead as to whether the sheep can jump over the gate, is it too high for them, should it be left open instead, will that mean the bull might also escape ... Yawn ... I am soon asleep.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Risk assessments, oh dear! That sounds worse than a Keynesian economics class. :)
DeleteThat's sad about Dennis and definitely very strange for him to ask for money. I wish I had my collection of no longer wanted Hallmark ornaments that I could show you. The way I'm going it will be awhile before I get that sorted out. Those chairs were a nice find. Hope the wine was good!
ReplyDeleteI fear this collection will become a process for years to come. Yes, the (Barefoot Cabernet) was mighty good. :)
DeleteI hate those curves thrown all the way from left field. Of course it is hard to imagine anyone asking for a loan from out of the blue. OUCH. The riding lawn mower is great.
ReplyDeleteBIG at your shot with the open mouth behind, neat!
Love ya! Ans sending it all the way from NC. (as we await the 'estimate' for valve and piston work on the diesel, this ain't gonna be cheap. If it is wild, I am thinking of giving the coach to a friend who is a diesel mech.
Thanks for noticing that picture! It's been cracking me up since I found it in a thrift store 10 years ago.
DeleteGosh, I can't believe your lawn guy asked to borrow money! Goodness. You do NOT look like a "rottweiler"! Ha! Good find on those chairs!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terri! The Rottweiler? My hair's become so long it looks just like Camilla Parker-Bowles. (Remember when Diana used to call her a Rottweiler?)
Deleteglad you found a nice hairdresser. good idea not to pay the guy the 400 dollars.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terre!
DeleteWe have been put in a similar situation to yours with the lawn man. We didn't lend the money. Sigh. I don't know what position or frame of mind you have to be in to ask someone you don't know all that well or that you only have a customer relationship with, for money.
ReplyDeleteEstate sales and thrift stores...you are speaking my language! Those chairs are a great find.
I like the idea of your alphabet list. I've never done that when I can't sleep, but I make up little mind tricks like that for all kinds of things. Mostly I use the alphabet when I can't remember a name. I start at A and start thinking of every A name I can think of and work my way through. It never fails to jog my memory.
You don't look like a Rottweiler!
Great tip to recall names, Stacy! You may be too young (you kid, you!) to remember, but Princess Diana used to call Camilla Parker Bowles "the Rottweiler." That's what I meant, lol.
DeleteYikes on the mower guy! Who does that??? Crazy for sure. Love those bar stools. My thrift shops never seems to have much that I want. Maybe that's a good things. I repeat Bible verses when I can't sleep! Or worry!!
