Scraps

G'morning ... happy Su Monday!  (Am I the only one unsure what day of the week this is?)

Thank y'all so much for your kind words on the loss of my friend.    Sharon's Celebration of Life service was really special ... standing room only in our little church.

Sadly, since my last post we (Robinson Springs) lost two more members.  Friend Brenda -- a new widow herself -- remarked, "What's this, God's taking all the good ones?  You know, I've got a list ...." (*giggle*)

Feeling mighty grateful for Christmas dinner with Troy and family.  I brought a big ol' salad (that we totally forgot to put out) and cheesecake, while Lois served Comfort Food:  Yummy meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and my favorite - green bean casserole, piled high with those delicious toasted onions.

Here's my favorite take-away -- the obligatory 4-generation image featuring my younger granddaughter, Chloe, and baby P.

Speaking of Comfort Food.
We invited friends Leon and Linda to join us at the Pub for a merry Christmas eve-Eve, and now they're fans.  The guys enjoyed blackened prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes and Texas toast; I giggled aloud when Leon cleaned his plate, then -- observing what we'd left on our plates -- would ask "are you going to finish that?"

Oh, how I love good food ... and others who aren't bashful to do the same without ceremony!

The holiday week wasn't all pixie dust.

Last Friday night found us at the ER for an unexplained open wound on Tom's back.  Thankfully, the VA wasn't so crowded -- as what's taking place at the big hospitals with the flu outbreak.

After blood work and x-rays they determined there was no evidence of the osteomyelitis that plagued him several years ago ...  no damage to the rods in his spine.   Big whew!

When all's said and done, y'all ....

I may or may not have rewarded myself with some contraband raw nut bread batter.
Little things mean a lot!

I hope your new week's full of happy!

Hugs, Myra

  1. So sorry to hear that two more of your friends have died. I am (still) praying for you all.

It's great to spend Christmas time with the family. I'll be writing about that in the New Year. I like the 4 generations photo.

Best wishes to you all and God bless.

  2. Around here we say that death comes in three's. Seems like it for sure. So very sorry for the loss of your church members. Your meal sounds wonderful, especially with blackened prime rib. YUM. Would you believe I forgot to put out my pistachio salad. Dinner was over when I realized that I never took it out of the fridge. This is a precious photo of the generations...a prize for sure!! Wishing you all the very best year to come..

    1. How funny about your/my forgotten salads! I'll have to Google a pistachio one; they're my favorites, but I never thought about putting them in a salad.

  3. Oh I am so sorry for the loss of more friends. Sometimes it is so hard to understand.
There is always an ache in the heart over losses. My mom has been gone 30 years, the day after Christmas. The ache is still there, but I'm glad I know where she is and I wouldn't want her in the condition she was in.
Love the photo of your generations and I am so glad Tom is now doing ok. I hate trips to the ER !!
Oh ya, licking the bowl while Mom was baking was a standard routine for me. Love your picture of it..
    AND ...
Dave and I have been so confused as to what day it is... We played hooky from church yesterday and now we definitely don't know what day it is.
    Hugs to you dear friend

    1. I feel the same way about my parents, Sue. Time does little to ease the ache. I didn't "get" that when I was young.

  4. I am sorry as well about the loss of two more friends. I'm afraid we are getting to be in the age of where it happens. :( I love your generations photo. I love to eat out myself. I still lick the bowl at times.
    Sounds like a Merry Christmas.

  5. That's rough losing friends.I went through a streak of losing 2 of my best friends I had for decades about 15 years ago. Total shocks as they hadn't been sick and were still in their 50's. Out of all of us back then, only two are left plus me. There's no replacing them. I just move on, realizing how very special those best friends - once in a lifetime friendships!
That is a special 4 generation photo. I had to smile at that Pub sign - keeping America great, one meal at a time. Too funny. Enjoy your New Year

  6. It is hard to lose friends, especially so close together and at Christmastime.
I am so sorry about Tom's back, but glad it was not as bad as you thought it might be.
I don't think I have ever bakes a cake without taking a swipe from the beater and eaten it.

    1. It's been many years, but one of my all-time favorite Christmas gifts was a little foil-wrapped package of my mother's raw sugar cookie dough. Poor lady had to wait until I was asleep before baking b/c she knew I was a thief.

  7. Licking the spoon was such a treat when I was a kid and here I am today! I sure loved seeing the four generations picture, Myra. Beautiful family!! Sorry about the ER visit with Tom, but glad he is okay and that the VA was not too crowded when you were there. Nasty stuff going around over here, too. Sending a hug and a Happy New Year wish for you!! xo

  8. we too are suffering what day it is... Bob uses the guide on the TV to see what day, I use phone, house and cell, . I did not eat batter, not because I feared it, but did not like it. my cousin ate a ton of it and she also loved raw potatoes. the 4 generations is a SUPER photo, all of you have smiles and no funky looking expressions... it is a master piece.

  9. I'm so sorry for all the losses of friends. I have heard that bad things happen in threes. Still with all that you managed some comfort food. We all need that at times. Take care and keep counting those blessings. Thankfully they outnumber your woes! Love, ma
