Aw, thank you Mother Nature!
Yesterday morning I stepped outside to a delicious 23* morning.
It wasn't long, however before I ducked back inside for a strong-dose of java. I've been waiting a long time to use a favorite cup - depicting Santa Fe in the snow. Perhaps I'll use my new Dollar Tree mug for some white chile this evening.

| What Troy asked for. Tho' it was a brief visit, he/they really enjoyed it. Their hotel room was only a block from the White House ... which he said looked a bit like a war zone with all the police and barricades. Sad, isn't it? We don't know if that's a new normal, but it was the same evening President Trump was hosting the Kennedy Center Honorees. Sirens day and night I'd have found a little unnerving. |
And then a wONEderful little girl celebrated her first birthday.
As ever, my DIL had her home beautifully decorated; nothing over the top, yet warm and whimsical throughout.

I didn't think I was a fan of pesto, but!
Now I want to beat feet to Dollar Tree for a jar. Lois mixed it with sour cream ... and man, it looked just like guacamole.
(So glad I asked first before surprising my mouth!)

Poor daddy Robert (deployed) had to watch via FaceTime, but both his mother and dad and their respective spouses were there, plus siblings and friends.
Even a neighborhood pup, who -- if she had her way -- would choose to live with my kids.

Well, friends, if you've made it this far I really appreciate you.

The resemblance between Chloe and Penelope is uncanny, Myra! And the little one certainly did have a sweet birthday with that cake smash. No, "playing" with your food wasn't allowed when my kids were growing up, mostly because that was considered wasteful. But I must admit, it looks like Penelope is having an absolute blast. Blessings!

DeleteHappy Birthday to little miss wONEderful, she is precious. It's good that Troy got to make the trip he's always wanted. It would be good to see the White House because of its history and what it 'supposedly' stands for, but I don't think I could handle DC.....too 'ugly' for me. Hope your days are Merry and Bright!

DeleteWhen I was growing up, we didn't do that with the "smash cake" BTT my sons were born it was just starting...only we didn't make s special cake - it was either a slice or a cupcake. Seems everything is so extravagant these days. It is cute though - watching how individual personalities come out, with some demur and others who totally demolish the cake.

Well it looks like a nice time celebrating Penelope. A great granddaughter is really something special!
She was actually hesitant at first -- until her momma put some icing in her mouth. Whoa, nelly!

DeleteOh, I so enjoyed this, and I know how good your feel great-grandma - a privilege. Chloe and Penelope look alike, don't they? Penelope is a doll. A year old already! Sad about Washington D.C. We did not have smash cakes when my kids were little - cute though. She is a blessing.

DeleteI tried to comment three times and got rudely interrupted here in PhysicalTherapyLand. Yikes! 23 degrees is dang chilly in your area. It was 11 degrees here two nights ago, but it warmed up today. Rollercoaster temperatures.
ReplyDeleteI like the photo of Troy, but it's a shame that our cities have turned into war zones. The USA isn't what it used to be. Sweet family photos to capture memories. I like mother and daughter 27 yrs. apart. Very similar. Jon
What a ride, this roller-coaster! I just hope I've an opportunity to wear all my winter clothes for more than a day or two.

DeleteI had to think about deployments and what great additions, the magic of cell phones and communications. Love the pictures and smiled at the beauties. Yep, we have enjoyed ggrands and even grands tearing a cake up. Love from Florida ....really did love the photos. SWEET!
