Welcome back, friends!
... and thank you Joyce for this weekly exercise.
Putting on what my momma called, "Your thinking cap"! 🤠
What area of your life feels like you're stuck in a Ground's Day loop, doing the same thing over and over? Does it bother you, or is that just how life is in this particular season?
When I dreamed about retirement, I didn't envision so many doctors' visits, or limited mobility. Nevertheless, like my friend says, "You gotta play the hand you're dealt."
Something that makes your heart skip a beat?
I don't know if this is what Joyce meant, but these are what immediately popped in my head --
Waiting for the doctor to come in with test results (nothing current, thank goodness)
and/or,
The first few moments when the plane I'm on takes off
Do you wear your heart on your sleeve or are you more of a closed book?
I used to be far more sensitive; my mother could always tell by the expression on my face.
.
Thankfully, two of my long-term workplaces (television and hospitality) compelled me to "put on a happy face" ... to feign being an extrovert.
Nowadays -- depending on the circumstances -- acting 'as if' pretty much comes naturally.
According to Prevention Magazine, these are 25 of the best foods for heart health:
Wild salmon, sardines, liver, walnuts, almonds, chia seeds, oatmeal, blueberries, coffee, red wine, green tea, soy milk, dark chocolate, raisins, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, whole grains, apples, oranges, grapefruit, avocado, avocado oil, olive oil.
Which 5 do you include in your diet most often?
Coffee, broccoli, walnuts, olive oil -- every day!
I'd like to say salmon, but I don't know how to prepare it and Long Horn's not exactly affordable 7 days a week. (lol)
Are there any foods on the list you simply cannot abide?
Liver, dark chocolate, raisins, oranges, sweet potatoes
P.S. - I've never tasted sardines, but I'd like to try!
What was the last piece of furniture you bought? Is there a piece of furniture you need/want to purchase this year?
A few years ago on a visit to my favorite thrift shop I didn't know I needed this desk.
... and didn't even pause to ask Tom!
He's not a fan -- but unlike my coauthor Macie Ann (shown here), neither does he spend much time in here.
We certainly don't need it -- but I'd love to have something like this chair -- shown here in Max Lucado's study, "Before Amen."
This makes me want to sing , "All I want is a room somewhere ..... with one enormous chair, oh wouldn't it be lover-ly!"
Insert your own random thought here.
In her Sunday sermon, Pastor Janet shared this quote (that) I want to remember

We gave our big desk to my daughter and her husband and sometimes I miss it. I got a laptop so am portable, but I miss the drawers and storage. We have just a table there now, which is fine, but not the same. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joyce!
DeleteThe last piece of furniture we bought was a custom made computer area for Both of us on both sides of the kitchen table. BUT that was in our former coach, and boy do I miss it. LOL
ReplyDeleteOatmeal, raisins, fish and olive oil are standard for us. I love SAlmon, but only get it mostly in Sherry's great Salmon patties.
Makes my heart skip a beat? Getting hit with family problems I NEVER expected...
I remember when seeing my Sherry anytime, made my heart skip a beat!!! LOL
As always, enjoy the questions and YOUR take..
I've never tried making salmon patties, but thanks for the nudge. There's no time like the present!
DeleteI never envisioned so many doctor appointments, either, Myra. But let's rejoice in the moment, as good ol' Leo said, as it's what we know we have. I do like that desk! Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martha. Y'all do the same!
DeleteGood afternoon Myra...can't believe it is already the afternoon. I enjoy these Hodgepodge days...I gain a lot of insight on my fabulous blogging friends. Furniture is a weakness for me...I love it!! Antique pieces, new pieces...all of it. Right NOW is the important time......and the decisions we make can be dangerous or they can be the Best decision we have ever made. I think I'll continue to stay away from the sardines. They are so healthy for us, but I can't even handle the smell. What makes my heart skip a beat are things like lightning, snakes, and secrets. lol...
ReplyDeleteYikes, I totally forgot lightning and snakes .. and tornado sirens. Secrets, lol!
Deletethe only thing on the list that is good for the heart that I don't like and never have is sardines, wild salmon and and oatmeal. I eat oatmeal 2 times a week but I hide it in a pancake, five things I eat every day, Blueberries, soy milk, coffee. i can add to the daily list, strawberries and mango, peanut butter and french bread. unsalted saltines and applesauce. never a day on missing those. they are all on my YES list....oops forgot Rice, rice pasta
ReplyDeleteYour diet sounds so much like Tom's. Every week lately he heads for the Publix bakery's french bread.
DeleteYou hit the nail on the head - doctor visits - and getting harder to move.
ReplyDeleteWild salmon, sardines, liver, walnuts - not for me - I can eat the other things.
I love your desk.
Now is important.
Carpe diem, y'all!
Walnuts, really? I agree with Shug (above) -- it's so fun learning more about one another.
DeleteOf those 25 foods I would choose red wine. Can it be used instead of all the others or as well as? Carpe vino; as I would say.
ReplyDeleteI make sardine paste. Put them in the blender with tomato ketchup and pepper. Good on toast; and better than eating sardines.
Most of the others are OK by me. The price of olive oil has rocketed over here. One litre extra virgin £13 = $16.25.
God bless.
Carpe vino? Two thumbs up! Blessings, dear friend.
DeleteI love your desk!! I sit in my recliner, watching TV with my laptop on my lap. The end table next to me is what I call "my nest". It doesn't always look nice in my living room, but it IS where I live. LOL Interesting food answers today! Sardines taste like strong tuna (to me). That's how I describe it, anyway!
ReplyDeleteYour end table sounds like Tom's! Nevertheless, where we LIVE is what counts.
DeleteI obviously like that post about the most important moment!
ReplyDelete🤗 Yep!
DeleteOh my I like to eat all those foods you mentioned, even liver. There isn't much I don't like or haven't tasted.. I love to eat! That's always been my problem and why I'll never be skinny. I love having a comfy chair and have one on my back porch. It's a padded rocker which is the newest piece of funerture I've purchased. I do spend a lot of time in it. I agree about going to doctor appointments, it does seem like ground hogs day. I guess it comes with age. Hopefully you are staying well there. There is a lot flu going on here. Love, ma
ReplyDeleteGuess what, Ma? Eating is my favorite thing to do anymore. Simple pleasures!
DeleteI am right there with you when it comes to liver. No way, no how!
ReplyDeleteLeaves more for the heathens!
DeleteI remember when you purchased the desk and told us all about it! It looks great to me!! Have you ever shared with us what you did on television???? Inquiring minds (mine!) want to know!
ReplyDeleteI was secretary/assistant in local (commercial) sales. Best job ever!
DeleteI don't know about wearing my emotions on my sleeve but they sure shout from my face.
ReplyDeleteCoffee, dark chocolate, red wine, olive oil. Too bad butter and red meat are not mentioned. Those are essential for good health too.
Gosh, I haven't bought any furniture for simply eons. Steve's been making all our wood furniture for a long, long time.
Fun post.
Blessings. 💖
Right there with you on butter and red meat! Steve sounds like an amazing talent.
DeleteI enjoyed your answers, and I love the thought about the big chair, "wouldn't it be loverly?", and your big roll top desk is gorgeous. Enjoy it all you want! I need more drawers to hide all my stuff around my desk. I love most of the foods mentioned, except the sardines...I don't think I've ever had one either and don't care to try. I do love sweet potatoes, however. I don't drink coffee either or red wine, and I do like dark chocolate but I really shouldn't eat it because chocolate and I do not get along very well. Furniture? How about a new washer! Yep...I'll write more about that tomorrow probably...still working on that...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful rest of your week. I hear you about the constant Dr. appts. We have one early tomorrow morning as a one week follow up for hubby's cataract surgery...another hour's drive early in the morning. Hoping no fog this time.
Bye for now.
Fingers crossed for a successful commute! I'm looking forward to hearing more about the washer.
DeleteI am with you on the ground hog day of the never, ever ending appointments and sometimes it is hard to move on because it is so frustrating. I just had my pain shot for my back changed until March.
ReplyDeleteInteresting answers on those next two questions. I buy a frozen Atlantic Salmon at Costco and it doesn't take long in the over to cook after it is thawed. Dark Chocolate is healthy and I do like sweet potatoes. Lovely desk. Love your random. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Thank you, Debby!
DeleteWishing you a beautiful week ahead, my friend. smiles
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteSardines are good with crackers or fritos, I just have to be in the mood for them! I agree with you on retirement, it is what it is and we just have to keep on keeping on!! Love the desk♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteThanks for this suggestion! 💛
