Thank to y'all who played along at the 'Watercooler.' I enjoyed your responses! So, some of you asked, what would be my choice?
Well, given that I LOVE murder mysteries and travel by ship -- it's a toss-up between 'The Girl in Cabin 10' and 'Death on the Nile.'
Our week's been largely uneventful -- but like the young grocery cashier remarked yesterday, "I'm feeling blessed that I woke up this morning, I've a good job, a roof over my head and food on my table." Wow.
I suspect today may be one of the longest 12-hour stretches ever. We saved a few hundred dollars by ordering a dishwasher from Amazon -- but they've only promised delivery "between 8am and 8pm." Why Amazon?
Don't get me started on Home Depot's non-customer service. (Yep, I'm naming names.) The model we expected to be delivered last Friday never materialized because the sales lady transposed our street address. (No-one bothered to call.) They promised delivery Monday, but when that got postponed to Tuesday, 'someone' marched down and demanded his refund. In cash! (Go, Tom!)
Because Tom and I normally eat different kinds of meals (sometimes at different times) I was surprised and delighted when, after only 3 days, he asked if I'd make another quiche. He.Who.Dislikes.Eating.the.Same.Thing.Twice.In.a.Row ... go figure!
Because it's ridiculously easy, if anyone's interested, here's the low-carb recipe:
1 lb. ground breakfast sausage, browned
8 oz cubed cream cheese (I zap it in the microwave for easier blending)
6 jumbo eggs
1 c. heavy cream
1 c. cheddar cheese, shredded
6 oz. bag fresh baby spinach
Combine everything and pour in a greased 13 x 9 baking dish.
Bake at 350* for 40 minutes, then
let rest for 10-15 min.

As part of the Life History (journaling) classes I once enjoyed, our facilitator urged the class to compile Lists of 100. "Write quickly, repeat as often as necessary and write whatever comes to mind."

Amusing, too, when I went back to the Bucket List I published the next year. Silly improbable dreams! Like my fantasy to sit astride a (racing) thoroughbred. My ever-helpful BF who suggested we put a quarter in the mechanical pony at WalMart. She volunteered. "I'll stand in front and throw mud in your face." What a gal!

ReplyDeleteI don't think I could make 100 on any of those lists either.
Deliveries can be the bane of our existence for sure. Be sure to track your Amazon delivery. It could very well come sooner than originally said. You can watch it on their "map" and see when it is out for delivery and how it gets closer to your home. It really helps.

DeleteI’ve not ever bought a big appliance from Amazon yet. I do shop a lot on Amazon because in my semi- rural area many times the big box stores don’t have the inventory. Frankly I love the convenience of shopping online.
ReplyDeleteThe quiche recipe sounds good. I usually make vegetable ones so do I brown the sausage before adding it to the mixture to bake?

Deletethecontemplativecat here. I have had battles with large kitchen appliances and those who are responsible for delivering. So far we need just a dryer replacement.
ReplyDeleteWell, the delivery people just left and I can't say enough good things about them. They even carried it through the house into the kitchen.
DeleteWe've had no problems whatsoever with AMAZON. They're excellent. They now even give us the option to deliver at a nearby store instead of at our home. This is useful when we don't want to wait at home for a delivery. We can collect from the store when convenient.

ReplyDeleteI will not get started on my home Depot rant/rave. I did the same thing Tom did, even had to call the manager, mine was a washer that did not wash
have not ordered appliance from Amazon but they are my go to for all ordering, even my 50 pound bag of dog food is left on the porch.
I will never order an appliance from a brick-and-mortar box store again -- these guys went above and beyond, even carrying it into the kitchen.

DeleteDid the delivery people hook up your dishwasher for you, or do you have to hire someone else to do that? Even though I understand your dilemma and upset over the Home Depot issue, I can testify that when I ordered a refrigerator from them, they did set it up and install it. Same thing with Lowes, when I ordered my washing machine (I think it was Lowes...they were cheaper than HD). They set it up. When the first one didn't work properly, they came back and brought me a new one and actually showed me how to use it and made sure it worked before leaving. I was very thankful for that!

Oh, that 100 list of items sounds like a challenge. Not sure I could ever come up with 100 on any of them.

DeleteTom's actually hooking the dishwasher up as we speak. (I had my reservations, but I'm keeping my mouth buttoned.)
That grocery clerk sure had the right attitude, Myra, that's for sure. We all have so much to be grateful for, even when we forget to count those blessings. And good for Tom getting his money back and giving them what-for at Home Depot. Hope Amazon doesn't let you down. Blessings!

Yay for Tom!! I'm proud he stood his ground and got Cash back. I detest being given a time frame of even 4 hours, not to mention 12 for a delivery. I want to think that time could be managed better...but of course, I don't work out in the world and I'm sure they have to allow for things. IDK. I'm kinda like Tom....I'm not crazy about leftovers and the only thing I enjoy eating two times in a given period is Desserts (Ha) and soups. Stay warm and have a fabulous, fun filled weekend.

They (Amazon delivery) totally exceeded my expectations! Had Tom not been able to do it himself, however, we'd have had to hire someone to install it.

DeleteWhen I want to know how soon to expect a package, I'll use the tracking feature Amazon offers. At least I can see how close it is to my neighborhood. Good luck and hope you don't wait too long. I do make lists but 100 of anything is too much for me to fathom. My bucket list right now is just keeping warm. A few days of very cold air is coming our way. Brrrchill! DeleteGood for Tom getting a refund! And in cash! Customer Service with the big box stores seems to be a thing of the past now all across the board. We've also been trying to use only small business whenever possible or order through Amazon because they ship via UPS. Our area has terrible FedEx service. It would take too much space here to explain how many times they've messed up, been lazy, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe Quiche sounds so good and easy enough for me to cook. lol I would substitute the Cheddar for Gouda or Havarti though. Just not a fan of Cheddar.
My brain doesn't go as far as 100 now. I'd probably only have a few things to add to that list.
