Gosh, there've been so many! Until these olden bones began to act out, Winter was always my favorite season - childhoods chock full of snowball fights and forts, ice skating, skiing.
I'm going with an '82 charter ski trip from Abilene to Durango, CO.
Great food, much laughter and some of the prettiest scenery ever. L'Chaim!
Tell us about the last time or a recent time you were caught up in red tape. Does it send your frustration level off the charts, or is it something you've come to expect when dealing with any sort of bureaucracy?
I sure wouldn't want to repeat our long-distance home buying experience.
Despite being pre-approved, crossing every "t" and dotting every "i" the mortgage company kept asking for "one more thing" ... up until the 11th hour. Seriously, I don't know how people with cardiac conditions endure. We were both so fed up, almost ready to walk away.

Not so much since developing a shellfish allergy.
Do you cook fish at home?
No. I've a pathological fear of discovering a bone(s).
What's your favorite fish dish?
I adore salmon but have never tried making it.

No way!
Did you watch any of the U.S. President's Inauguration coverage on Monday, January 20?
Yes, I was glued to the television.
And how about that Mississippi Valley University Marching Band? I may have been on my feet!
On a scale of 1-10 (with 1 being 'not at all' and 10 being very very), how interested are you in politics in general.

Not local, no.
What's the coziest thing you own, and what makes it so?
I'm going with my favorite (electric) fireplace.
It's not especially grand, but how it transforms the feel of our family room.

While it only lasted a few hours, the little kid in me was still thrilled.
My fav meteorologist shared something that had me scrambling to look up online.

(In between making snow angels, Amanda was scraping her boots against the icy pavement.... hence, ASMR.)
Does one get ASMR when drinking too much?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in politics some years ago speaking in a market place, someone approached me and asked loudly, "Do you believe in free speech?" I replied, "YES of course!" Then he said, "OK, can I borrow your cellphone to make a call?"
It's been a while since we had fish fingers, (I think you call them fish sticks). I don't like shellfish so much.

DeleteI love Shrimp, but not a huge fan of fish. I will eat blackened fish at some restaurants but that is about it. Oh....I'm guessing that was a wonderful Winter trip to Durango. I want to go and ride the train during the winter months.. Hopefully I can soon. Politics are horrible in our little town...We have a new mayor in town...he just moved here a few years ago and lets just say..I don't think he wil be mayor very long. Love the 2025 snow on the fence....have a great one today...

DeleteWinter memories, the best was in early 1950s and a big snow when I was a kid. something like 10-12 inches unheard of in NC.
ReplyDeleteRED TAPE The worst I ever had was trying to deal with a city council to build a subdivision. I gave up, probably one of my BEST decisions at Sherry's suggestion. Let's go traveling. and we did. LOL We love fish, prefer Crappies, perch called Spec's in Florida. Right now we by frozen Swai, sort of a white fish. I deep fry it and Sherry uses it in her Fish stew.

DeleteHaHa...first off I had to look up what ASMR was. The thing that came to mind was the first few days that I had my hearing aids. I had the volume up, I guess too high, and when my Granddaughter cleared off the paper tablecloth and crumpled it I about went through the roof. Definite tingle. Man that was sensory overload!

ReplyDeleteI think buying long distance on line - with all the problems - and I hate to be negative - but I do think all those issues are the new normal.
I watched the inauguration. Loved it. I wish the country well. I don't like fish too much either. Wish I had an electric fireplace.
Can you believe Atlanta got snow - 30 miles NORTH we did not.

DeleteI grew up with winter snow. When you don't know any different it is pretty amazing. I enjoyed snowball fights. I don't miss it now living in CA. Sorry you can't eat fish, however, I only like salmon. I did my rating on politics regarding watching President Trump on TV. I think I read it wrong. I think your fireplace is a great answer. Your random was interesting. I've never heard of ASMR. Interesting.

ReplyDeleteI too have a shellfish allergy so I’m not fond of eating fish and I too, don’t like fish bones. I’ve choked on a few as a child so the fear is real.
I thought it was fascinating watching all the assembled guests -- and me, trying to see if I could spot any Secret Service members among them. (Nope, no luck.)

DeleteASMR...new "word" for me too! But now I have chills, does that count? Mostly from thinking about how cold it is, and being thankful that we didn't get any snow, even though I was looking for it at 6:30 this morning when my phone said it was snowing, but it was just a light rain. Too "warm" for snow, but definitely too cold to be outside in my nightgown. LOL. I enjoyed all your answers. I was also glued to the TV on Monday. Loved it all. Proud of Carrie Underwood too! She's first class! I don't cook fish either, unless it is Mrs. Pauls' fish sticks. I prefer to get my seafood at a restaurant so I don't have to smell it cooking in the house. I love our electric fireplace too. We rarely turn on the real heat...just the fire light for ambience. It's one of my favorite things we ever bought! So happy you got the snow! Deletemy very first and best memory of winter, was moving to Florida in 1984 and on Christmas day going to the beach, and on New Years day going to the beach. I love Florida's winter. of course this year it has been way to cold for that. I do remember the thrill of seeing icicles like your photo in 1953 when we moved to KY.
ReplyDeleteyes, I found ASMR in 2015 and did a post about it and have used it to put me to sleep when I want a nap in midday. until I found that I could not nap. I have always had the tingles when watching someone brush hair and even as a child felt the tingle when sitting in church, watched the child in front of me play with her mothers hair.

DeleteThe year we lived in Canada making snow angels was so much fun, especially for a Texas girl who seldom sees snow. We've seen a lot here on the Texas coast the past few days. My little town topped the chart with 6inches! It was fun, but I'm glad it's gone. hmm, I wonder if this old body could have made a snow angel. lol

I think I embarrassed my daughter Amy at the Inauguration watch party. She actually whispered: "Mom, quiet down" during his speech. But we older ones know what liberty feels like. And we want it back.

DeleteGrowing up in Central Florida I liked winter greatly. It was SO hot and humid living there it was miserable during the hot months. Now that I'm a few hundred miles further north but still in the South, and it's become too cold for these old bones. Winter is no longer my favorite time of year. Never happy, am I?! *lol*
